    These are really easy to take apart and clean, the sweet spot is to have your subject about 6-7 feet away and your blurry background about 20-40 feet away and shoot this lens wide open! This lens is a gem!

      There are two options:
      1) m42 to ef to rf (2 adapters)
      M42 to EF adapter: amzn.to/374VCfO
      Ef to Rf: amzn.to/46Ar0M2
      Or
      2) m42 to rf (1 adapter)

    The trick you mention is so true! I have found Canon cameras with EF lenses cheaper than bought just the lens. I think it's because people who sell just the lens may know what they're selling, while those who sell the camera just want some money to part with it.

    You said “screw it right onto the camera” while screwing the M42-Adapter plate to a RF-EF-Adapter.
    Did you try comparing the lense on an RF-M42 to your setup? I am wondering how much of a difference it makes to the lense, since you are changing the distance between the camera sensor and the glass.

    • @JosephMcBrayer
      @JosephMcBrayer  Год назад

      Hi there-thanks for the comment and question. Since making this video, yes, I have tried mounting it with an rf-m42 adapter (the one from Urth). It looks about the same distance to me and images looked similarly great, but I’ve not done a closer analysis. Thanks, I’ll take a look at that.
      Have you seen a difference or found that others’ have?

    • @Dewabarasunderan
      @Dewabarasunderan Год назад

      @@JosephMcBrayer I have not yet gotten any further information on that. Usually less distance between sensor and glass results in better image quality. That's the whole reason, why the RF-Mount leads to amazing picture quality ☺️.
      Furthermore when designing a lense, the distance between glass and sensor is relevant for calculating focus distances. Maybe one should look at the Zenit cameras or other cameras with a M42-mount and measure the distance between the M42-lense and cameras sensor. But I guess that's what Urth and KF-concept already did for us when designing the adapters.
      Why don't the all have the same measurements though? That's where I am puzzled🤔.

    • @JosephMcBrayer
      @JosephMcBrayer  Год назад

      @@Dewabarasunderan that’s fascinating. I bought the 44-2 with a zenit so I’ll take a look at it and see what’s perhaps ‘closer’ to the zenit: a) the Urth Rf-m42 or the rf-ef-m42.
      Thanks for these insights and please do let me know if you find if anyone here on YT or elsewhere has an explainer/faq on this.

    When I attach my Helios to my R with an adapter every button on the camera stops working. Can't get into a single setting or take photos/video. This lens works perfecting on our Canon C70. Have you ever had any issues??

    • @JosephMcBrayer
      @JosephMcBrayer  8 месяцев назад

      That’s interesting (and I’m sure frustrating!). I’ve not had that problem before. Does it happen with other screw mount lenses?
      On thing I thought of is, (and you may already know this) you have to go into the menu to do the “release shutter without lens” to be able to use manual lenses for photos.
      I’ll do a search on it but this is the first I’ve heard of it.

      The lens is using a M42 to EF that it attaches to an EF to RF mount. It works perfectly on other Canon cameras. I'm going to try covering the sensors on the M42 to RF mount and see if that helps. I think it might because I have used some VERY lo-fi plastic lenses on that camera with no issues. I think camera sees the sensors and gets confused. I will report back.

    You should consider using the Sony A7ii or later series with your vintage lenses. I was shopping around and considered the EOS R, but what sold me on the Sony was the in body 5 axis image in body stabilization. That is actually something when you are shooting with vintage manual lenses. I found lots of them on eBay. So I bought a Sony A7Rii for $880 (about the same price as a rebuilt EOS R). I like Canon and own one, but it didn't have the in body stabilization. Also, I just ordered a 55mm f 1.2 lens adapter for $11 each. This Sony came with a M42 adapter. This will be my first mirrorless large sensor (44.2MP) camera. I never use Auto anything other than image stabilization. So this will work fine. It is a cheap way to get into this kind of camera. Nothing is free of concerns. This camera has a history of over heating in 4K mode (which I won't be using) and small batteries. There are fixes for the battery issue. Back in 2015 this camera cost a lot. Maybe the Canon EOS R will include in body stabilization.
