Craig, you guys are killing it!! I’ve been watching since the beginning and, even though we don’t know each other, it’s like I’m watching a good friend of mine chase their dreams. I couldn’t be more proud (big dumb smile on my face lol). Congratulations to you, Odem Family. You guys are deserving of all the success in the world. May God continue to bless you every day.

We plant to open March 1st 3 days a week, selling some plants and some veggies so pray for us!!! (Pls)

I just retired and don't really want to start a retail nursery; I am starting landscaping a 5-acre plot we just purchased. Along with landscaping with perennials and trees, we're also building a food-forest and permaculture garden and all of that work goes along with the nursery work you're doing so your videos have been immensely helpful, informative, and fit in well with the work I am starting right now.
We sell by appointment in our nursery as well. We sell out of my business partners house and his wife is worried about people just coming by anytime of the day. So far it’s working well
Been watching and am ready to start a nursery. I have 20 acres and a 100000 budget. As a young man I worked a nursery thru my high school years. I ended up purchasing my bosses home and land. I want you to know you are inspiring. I have a lot of fear, but watching your channel has encouraged me. I’m retired so the pressure isn’t crazy, but there is still a push to break even the first year. I’m located in the southeast North Carolina, so not too far from you guys.
Sounds great! If I were in your shoes. I would dive in with about $10-$20k and see if you can manage that before you look to sinking $100k into it. Once you learn how to do everything, scaling up isn't terrible hard, but you're got to know what you're doing to get there.
@@savvydirtfarmerI agree, my concern is not the propagation or even the structures. My concern is getting the customers to our place and maybe sourcing some of the plants. After researching arborvitae, hasta, ferns, and other of the same seem to do extremely well here.( as far as sells)
I’m so glad y’all are doing so well my small nurseries since watching you 2 1/2 three years ago was doing great. I wanna retire soon and set up a small retail so I’m keeping my eye out for something. I am a little disappointed, not to be able to order from you to have to be part of your group to be able to have that opportunity so I hope you rethink that part
Unfortunately, I’m gonna have to save this video for a later date or mobile home got taken down by a large oak tree done hurricane Milton, so I’m on my way to rent a chainsaw for the handyman. Good job family.❤

I will start by appointment shop work items now and start to include plants next spring . My pace and by appointment by text. You have shown me much! I love your attitude and enthusiasm!
@@John_GGG yes we are propagating mums it's much cheaper than buying plugs from the nursery in India plugs cost from around 15 cents each to 50 cents each plugs depending on the varieties and mature plants is almost 5 to 10 times expensive than the plugs so we are planning to sell from this year and adding some more varieties too
sending a nice comment just because you guys are awesome. Keep up the hustle, keep up the good work, keep up the praise to the one who allows us to harvest his land.
I'm a small grower Green Tandem Flower Farm, mums slow in heat. So in a hot dry summer they will be delayed. You have a nice set up, I founded my nursery in 2023, right now I grow everything I don't buy in, my stuff looks better 😊 and my standards are high.
Thanks for sharing the ups and downs of year 2. It is such a blessing to see your family working together. The first year that we sold fruit trees ithere was a snow storm with snowflakes the size of baseballs! We sold 120 trees in 2 days. Seems like people will come out on the worst days in the spring because they can't do any yard work.
It was a pleasure seeing both of you. When owning a business no matter what profession there is always ups and downs. I started selling two springs ago That year I learned not to start all my seedlings at the same time I now stagger them. I too lost a little money but it's okay I learned something in the process so I say pick up your pants and just move on. This summer we had extremely high heat and we are still in the hundreds. I'm so happy for you and your family You have done so well and I'll pray that you keep on the same path.
Love watching your videos from here in SE PA. Had to smile when I saw Casey wearing the Penns Cave shirt, it's about two hours away from where I live. Try to get some rest over the Fall and Winter seasons.
❤ I Have been watching you since you were nurserying in your house back yard ❤ I make plants from the ones I have in my garden and make extra money. You been helping me with your advices and mistakes. Thanks. I am already 62 yo and I prefer to keep it small since I live with my self. Thank you again for all your videos.
Congratulations on a successful year! 50% is great! I agree, fall mums are a whole different animal. Timing is everything. This was my trial/learning year. Other than a few videos on RUclips showing the drip irrigation… There just wasn’t a lot of information out there. Money wise, I did a little better than breaking even. But learning… I learned quite a bit. We learn from our mistakes.. and I made A LOT! The mums caused me to have a fall plant sale that I normally don’t have. Almost sold all of my liners for next year.. But didn’t sell the first Hosta the whole year 🤔.. So, I relate with the feelings of being grateful that both of you are having. But I am not surprised with your success. In a couple of your earlier videos you mentioned that you feel that this was your calling. For whatever reason you are placed in this endeavor, it will be big! Even if no one else sees it! God bless!
Im sticking cuttings in cups, propagating it tubs. Hoping to have a little ready for 2025, but expecting a few thousand trees/bushes/plants ready for sale in 2026. Your videos are giving me great insight. Thank you so much.
Congratulations to you and the family! Couldn’t agree more to do what works best for you guys. Quick question, when do you anticipate you having giant green arborvitae’s for sale to the RUclips community? I know you mentioned it was coming…
The question I have is what is your repeat customer base? Reason being my thoughts is you will need to continue to have changes in plants because most of those repeat customers are looking for those new varieties. I hope you will pick up some landscapers in the future for your arborvitaes. Could become their next go to for plants also. Glad you had a great year. You still have many options to turn to to make changes to your nursery if you choose to do so. Stay busy build up your inventories and see you next spring. Hope one of these years I will be able to watch a fall fest day at your nursery. Have a great rest of the year. 🙋
Repeat customers are a huge part of what we do. A lot of people (dozens) come 3-5 times in the Spring. A couple of people stop by every week. MANY have been here twice. We'd have a hard time growing like we are without our faithful repeats.
That is why I believe you need to have new and exciting things for those who already have purchased those things you offered in the previous years. Just my thoughts to help you continue to grow in supplying those repeat customers and expanding your knowledge in new plants. Keep up the great work and keep them coming for years to come. 👍🙋. Great job Odem family.
2 years to profitability is a huge accomplishment... congrats to you guys. Are you open to a commissioned order... next year I would like to buy 100 each of X, Y, Z perennials type of thing??
Question I saw a video of yours (older) where you were digging up your arbs which were planted in the ground.. it gave me the idea.. do you ever sale them as bare root as an option ? That way no pot or soil is needed. Thank you I have learned so much and am starting my own back yard nursery. I have 6 full grown green giants and 17 more 4 yr olds to propagate from $$$
I sell bare root liners through my channel from time to time, but rarely anything bigger. Larger arborvitaes (bare root), don't transplant as small ones do.
Love your videos, I am building a nursery, very few flowers, mostly fruit trees, what shade cloth do you think I should use 50 percent or maybe less like 20 or 30 percent, thank you
Depending on what you're growing and where you're located, you probably don't really "need" shade cloth... but, it helps, for sure. For plants that need full sun, that 30% or so can be good. For plants that need partial shade, 50% or so is good.
@@savvydirtfarmer thank you so much, I'm in West TN zone 7b, I know you came from here, so you know how Hot it is here in summer, I have mostly fruit and nut trees and different berry bushes ,thank you again

Most of the comments here are great... very encouraging. We have great viewers and most of them are reasonably intelligent. When there is negativity, it usually has something to do with me being a "pretender" who doesn't know what he's doing, or how stupid I sound pronouncing various words because I'm from the South.
