Many thanks :)
Dean doherty is the guy to learn from for power tool repairs
Thanks bud I'll check that out
I second Dean and he's in Ireland so many of the same model numbers and supplier issues @@TheCod3r
I've found that the usual issue with battery operated power tools is the use of leaded solder causing the wires to disconnect from the heat of using them for long periods without allowing them to rest.
From my 30 years of experience,
IF you want your battery powered tools (and the batteries) to last longer, 5 minute burts with 5 minute rest periods is the best way to use them.
It allows the wiring and batteries to cool and prevents overwhelming the solder, and will extend the life of the batteries because the lithium cells are not designed to discharge at such a high rate for long periods.
Can't beat a new toy to play with ! Looking forward to the workshop build 👍
Definitely! Thanks Paul, much appreciated buddy
Dean Doherty is the goto channel for tool repairs - a mine of information. He explains why some tools are not economical to repair due to parts cost and what some of the pitfalls are. Some brands are better than others on spares availability. He likes Makita tools. I would now not buy used unknown tooks - about the save risk as an Ebay Playsatation!!
check out Buy it Fix it he does a lot of power tools also
I love to see a repair on tools most people now a days just trash them and replace great video also love to see someone trying something different most things are not that difficult to figure out with minimal research
Hi Phillip, cracking video showing that electronics logic doesnt mean console or phone repairs! Good luck with the build and keep on producing excellent content.
Wow, more of this my friend!
It´s great to see you do other things than just consoles or computer-components!
You have my cheer!💝
/L
Great. Some other stuff. I'm very excited.
Wow, more of this my friend!
It´s lovely to see you do more things than consoles!💝

In these control units ist mostly a Triac that fails. Had that on my Festo saw.
Nice to see something different getting fixed, found that very interesting thanks
I'm looking forward to seeing you work on it
when you do your first video on building the new shed could you elaborate on why the current workshop/room is unsafe? just wondering is all
Always good to see something different :)
I bought one but I think it needs a new hdmi port as I get no picture
This tool will come in handy for opening consoles. 😊
Awesome dude 👏 😎
It is analog electronics for most people's first electrical job.
From this starting point, it will be divided into digital and analog groups.
Haha Phil!! Finally a video where Vince might teach you a thing or two!!! 😂❤
Excellent video as always ,new power tools can be expensive so the used fix it up repair is better. Also a great investment .Personally i stick with corded tools . The switch with a latch is commonly refered to as an interlock ,some devices may have several interlock triggers in series to be pressed before the item operates. You should wear a white jacket with Cod3r embroidered on it. Doctor
Usually you can pop the resin in hot water to soften it. We chuck them in an open kettle in work (no lid). Then dig the soft resin out after.
His dad looked at it... through the haze of blue smoke coming from the burned out motor windings! lol
first thing i would of done would of been remove the blade for safety
Great video and fix.
Cheers pal
There is normally a safety feature that blade won't spin Antilles guard is pushed back lay in on a pice of wood to test it
Yeah I don't think these ones have that safety feature though to be honest
Scour a local boot fair. You will see much cheaper power tools available. Broken tools you can fix etc.
Yeah that's the plan bud. They don't reopen around here by me until the end of April though so until then it's ebay and Facebook only unfortunately
Hi what of the 2 the fake hakko or the t12 station you prefer and use the most if i may ask please.
I still use the butter knife screwdriver occasionally 😂
I've been trying to build a shed for 4 year, got me frame wood and posts because i want to build it off the floor. I just need to save for concrete and more pannels and roofing 🤦♂️ probably another 4 year 😂
In the words of stez…. Nice!
Can you repair the power socket under TV.. 😮
I'm a Bosch professional range kinda guy and think they are excellent.. but that is TBF a biased position as I've had other brands but never had mikita tools but the Bosch stand out for me soooo not sure what my point is here 😂😂😂 Anyhoo I love the channel and peace
I like Bosch as well. Had nothing but problems with Makita.
Inside there's a mosfet Phil which burns out if you overload the saw for a period of time If it was not for the resin a very cheap fix.
Thanks mate, I might have a look at it for a quick fix video. I don't know if I'd be able to put it back together though because of the way they're moulded in 😞
My Mate Phil? All good though!
Haha yep
Do you ever do old amplifiers?
LOL. You pulled the switch and STILL frightened yourself. Class. I was certain is was going to be a faulty USB port, or the BQ chip. Nice one!
Haha yeah I think that's just reflexes. I wasn't scared, honest 😂👀 and yeah I was hoping it needed a reball 😂😂😂
£35 for a used one (plus the spare parts) and you don't even know if you were able to fix it or not... Then you need a battery and a charger too. You could have bought a new one for around £160. Maybe not a well-known brand, but if you are only going to use it a few times it will be enough.
It's more about content for me, but Makita is a very good brand. I can buy a battery and charger for around £60 so I'm still technically winning lol
hey bud you can get some good power tools from Aldi supermarket (they are German made)
I still use a butter knife if I can't find my screwdriver.
Anyone else use a butterknife as a screwdriver as a kid? Yep, and on more than one occasion ruined the butterknife, mother was not best pleased! But I will add, much rather a ruined butterknife than having to face the wrath of father after possibly ruining his Makita tools
Haha yeah that's true. I used to take everything apart with a butter knife as a kid, it was so much fun back then 😁
Slightly more dangerous than the inner metal console cases or an OEM PC
Haha just a little bit 😅
Congrats on the new toy buddy!
Lol cheers bud
The "controller " is only there to protect the battery from over-discharge and isn't strictly necessary.
ALL 18 TO 24 VOLT power TOOLS ARE actually MADE FROM 24 VOLT DC PARTS / MOTORS.
I have a few tools with batteries that aren't sold anymore and I have simply connected a pair of leads *using 8awg and larger to keep from melting them* to the contacts and use a pair of car batteries wired in series to supply the 24VDC.
They are Still working better than when they were new after years of using them like that
*if you are going to do this REMEMBER to USE YOUR BRAIN and DON'T OVERSTRESS your TOOL, ALLOW IT TO COOL down when the leads get warm or if you have used it for more than about 5 minutes without turning it off.
I would have removed the blade before working on it. But I'm paranoid.
Dewalt
Send the brushes back. By the time the brushes are bad the saw will be long obsolete. I have belt sanders and saws that are 40 years old and never had a brush replaced yet.
Jesus Christ. Take the blade out next time 😂
should get detailing brushes alot better
Please remove blades when working on power tools
Take the blade off man😢😢😢😢😢
I agree, I should have. But I like to live dangerously lol
My Mate Phil 🎉
Nice fix n this circular saw Phil that controller didn't look the best these power tool are normally sold as bare tools I use the Ryobi gear
Still sexy as ever....Thanks for the video Phil
Lol thanks buddy. Where you been hiding?
A lot of people lie saying that the item they're selling has a much simpler fault just to sell the thing more quickly. I had to learn and convince myself that I cannot trust what the seller says; I have to ask what the _symptoms_ are, confirm the symptoms and try to review the possibilities _myself in my head_ before buying. It doesn't turn on at all? It can be ANYTHING. It turns on, but acting weird? That narrows the diagnostic a little bit... I didn't even suspect that these things would have a controller so even if I end up unable to fix it, at least I take it as if I paid to learn something. Then next time I'll have better chances thanks to it, whether to repair or to avoid the same mistake.
Makita WAS good 40 years ago. They are still one of the best, but not as good as back in the 80's. I have a cordless drill from them that is 46 years old and one of its original batteries was mostly usable until 2019. The other thing I like about them, is that they sell brushless motor and ESC set for failing units. But I use it daily because in low gear setting, it CAN still break my arm if the bit is stuck. I got this for free from my ex boss, and I refurbished its batteries, they use Li-Ion batteries now, as it is 7.2V, and the conversion was easy, as well as the modification of the charger. I also like HILTI and Milwaukee, and Hikoki(formerly Hitachi) tools, because they are very reliable and durable,I just can't afford it.
Bbbooooooooo its not a console ! 😉 Only joking its good to see other things being fixed.
Haha thanks mate
Firstly, I would have removed the blade. Then checked the brushes. Unfortunate that it was the control module.
Brushes are very easily changed, when they are defective they don't have much tension pressing them onto the rotor.
I have mainly dewalt brushless battery tools but prefer Makita angle grinders on mains power.
I have repaired/maintain a lot of power tools at work.
Very dangerous
