He is a classically trained pianist. All he is doing is putting 64 keys within his palm reach instead of 64 piano keys laid horizontally which are all custom programmed. Allowing him to perform on a entirely different level of dexterity. Each track he creates and plays in user mode is a reinvention and iteration of a "instrument" trying to add as much live performance element and real-time DJ creation as possible. As opposed to how most DJ's play and perform live. Creating a medium in which usually pre-recorded content can be created and played live on a instrument. He reinvents the wheel every track. Which is at the very least to say commendable. People saying this is the end of real musicianship but really this is a reinvention of the one-man-band on a entirely different level. Thanks M4SONIC for some great music and a extreme level of showmanship!
People say that live DJs just push buttons on a laptop (some DJs actually do that) but M4sonic showed us that DJs can deliver an awesome performance with the right tech !
M4SONIC is one of the few electronic artists i still have respect for because he pretty much uses this Launchpad as an instrument to make his songs live. he's not just pushing a button and the song plays, he has to push a few dozen of them!
This version absolutely shits all over the GUETTA mix I suffered through just before finding this gem . This person has added something to the original track ,retained its sonic integrity anf given it a new melodic & rhythmic spin . Love it
how does one dislike something of this talent? do you people realize how many patterns and buttons this takes memorizing along with hours of practice for muscle memory....
The deep grungy bass sample used for about a second at :53 and 1:43 (and a few other spots -- sounds like "whompwhompwhomp") is from *Celldweller's "The Seven Sisters."* It's used here at a slightly faster tempo and pitch-shifted slightly higher. Don't even ask me HOW I recognized it... Anyway, here's the original source Celldweller track. Once you know the sound I'm talking about, you can't miss it: ruclips.net/video/xxKSpWvmdLM/видео.html Pretty sure if there's an Internet Easter Egg game, I just won. :D
I get it. I've listen to the song again and yes it doesn't sound like dubstep. Shit people -_- So it doesn't sound completely like transformers with tourettes having passionate sex...my bad.
It's weird how there's people that think this is something really difficult and special but they then think that playing piano is very easy and mundane.
DarkRedDiamond And how you know? Ever heard about quantization? it doesn't require that much rhythm training, because your DAW helps you. You need to know what to trigger and configure the whole thing. That performence itself isn't that hard! If you say that this is harder than playing the paino, you're clueless. Piano has more parameters for the performer, such as velocity and a sustain pedal. In this video, all the samples are triggered with the same volume. now that's "easy" in comparison! Also, the piano is not configurable for the sake of your finger movement economy. Please don't talk this way about pianos or pianists!
It definitely is not easy. However, people tend to compare it with other instruments and they don't know a thing. This IS an instrument, but please don't compare a piano with a violin or a DrumPad or a timpani. Did you ever compare football players with wintersport athletes? They basically do the same stuff: sports. But you really do not want to compare these with each other. Same here
Imagine a piano. Now, make it have almost 50% more keys. Now, make all those keys change every song you do. Granted, you don't need to change all of them, but many do change. That's about as fair of a comparison as you can get. This take's some good hard work to do. Respect.
Isnt there any easier way to make dubstep? Or it will be really hard to make It. Ive seen a lot of people saying dubstep is sh*t, it doesn't need talent. Those people are pretty much stupid.
You can program the sequence of the samples on a computer and make it play them to get the track (like a piano roll), you still have to "sculpt" the entire song. You don't have to be able to play it live on a launchpad. That's why people say it takes no skill, because you could technically take your song and play it live by just pressing play, but most people do what m4sonic is doing here when live because it gives them control on exactly what's going to happen as well as improvise. In any case, it still takes skill, effort and practice to make a good song made out of samples. Hope this helps :)
This is actually Electronic since there is no real "wobbles" in the song mainly just sounds. Like what Mirages said though other then programming a sequence you can also just find and download sounds that play the Dubstep sound you here with websites like this one. www.mvploops.com/ Other then that your other option would be to use Fruity Loops. It's a program that has pretty much any DJ tool you can think of at your disposal all it takes is the will to learn it.
You have to but a midi effect rack on Ableton. Put as entrance the instrument that you would play on the Launchpad et like output the lauchpad, normally it's working. If yo want some other colors that yellw, put a velocity effect and press the button on the effect "fixed". Put the "Out Hi" know at 75 if you want red or 80 if you want green. And finally if you want for exemple a line of color when you press one button, put a chords effect and test for finding the combinaison that you want. Hope you'll see my message and that I helped you :)
Still the best remix in the world of this song 10 years later man i remember when it said posted 5 hours ago now it says 10 years ago man damn bro nostalgia hitting hard man😭
Awesome Mix! I don't know how people can dislike something that shows incredible skill probably down to hours of practice for our entertainment? Beer x
The launchpads are linked to an application on a PC, and pressing a button on the pad plays a prerecorded sound clip... could be a note, a rhythm, or a vocal track, whatever the user sets it up to be.
Pushing ten years down the line, and this is still one of my top ten favorite remixes. I hope you're still alive and kicking M4SONIC
8 years later... It's really amazing that by listening to this Remix how much I love Empire of the Sun now, thanks M4Sonic
That opening still gives me goosebumps

as a futurist, this warms my heart to see music moving in this direction. keep evolving. this is gold
Algorithm bubbles are very efficient
Je n'ose même pas imaginer la mémoire qu'il faut pour jouer ce genre de mélodie sur cet appareil. Vraiment magnifique. :)
Wow, the playing of that instrument is amazing to watch. That's a lot of creative brain power.
I like the original don't get me wrong. But I almost prefer this version! SO COOL.
I think the same.!!;D
Agreed
People say that live DJs just push buttons on a laptop (some DJs actually do that) but M4sonic showed us that DJs can deliver an awesome performance with the right tech !
All of the Empire of the Sun songs are just soo good!
I really wanna see them live☹☹😞
And who doesn't?? :((
The artistry and engineering is remarkable. Having been a Dj in the vinyl era makes this kind of brilliance that much more incredible. Bravo.
This is absolutely brilliant.
M4SONIC is one of the few electronic artists i still have respect for because he pretty much uses this Launchpad as an instrument to make his songs live. he's not just pushing a button and the song plays, he has to push a few dozen of them!
This is hands down the best version of this song. Doesn’t get any better than this!!
The instruments are scattered if I'm being honest. Overly repetitive, absurdly obnoxious.
EMPIRE ON THE SUN, ME ENCANTA SUS CANCIONES SON ESPECTACULARES, EXCELENTE ESTE CANAL RUclips.
Best DJ Evah!!!!!
This guy is absolutely amazing. I love all his remixes I need to get a message to him. I want you to come to the UK and play for me in a club!!
This version absolutely shits all over the GUETTA mix I suffered through just before finding this gem . This person has added something to the original track ,retained its sonic integrity anf given it a new melodic & rhythmic spin .

H&M Soundtrack :D I get all excited at work when it comes on!
I love empire of the sun and don't care for remixes. This was badass
Still can't beat the original, just gives you that free feeling that's hard to find these days.

Just found out about him. Amazing work!

It was 14
I can't believe I only found this remix yesterday, instead of 10 years ago. This is easily my favorite version of the song now.
Who says dubstep doesn't take skill? You still need to know music to make it and this shit looks as hard as playing a piano.
This isn't exactly dubstep.
OctaviaMC Why not?
It's more electronic or electro house, it's fairly different from dubstep. None the less, still an amazing remix!
***** I know right..
I get it. I've listen to the song again and yes it doesn't sound like dubstep. Shit people -_- So it doesn't sound completely like transformers with tourettes having passionate sex...my bad.
Man I hope there are more video's on the way. It is almost hypnotizing watching him play.
просто бома ребята!
Very nice!
This sounds better than the original one.. ;)
Loving every minute on my night shift haha ... oh yeah!!!
It's weird how there's people that think this is something really difficult and special but they then think that playing piano is very easy and mundane.
They don't love music. They love the hype.
this is so much harder than navigating around on a piano, this requires a lot harder rhythm training.
Never said this wasn't hard, it's just not that much harder.

The EDM gods have blessed this man.
pfft , button pusher ;) of course I'm joking , this is amazing

You are far better at this than I will ever be at anything ever
The launchpads are linked to an application on a PC, and pressing a button on the pad plays a prerecorded sound clip... could be a note, a rhythm, or a vocal track, whatever the user sets it up to be.
