manufactured by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA). The RC loco series are one of the first tyristor controlled electric locos. Still going strong. 💪🏻
Came here after seeing this train in one of your recent videos. I love that black livery and the old school look of the ribbed metal. Very classy. The seats also look like Ikea lounge chairs, which is so Swedish! haha
Thank you for sharing this. I have had a wonderful opportunity to travel twice in 2004/2005 on this - one in spring and one in winter, all the way from Stockholm Central to Narvik, both during the day and during the night using Scanrail pass. Amazing experience! I would do it again when i get the opportunity!
Kalmar Central reminds me very much of Luleå Central, both similar interior and amenities, though Luleå has no luggage storage. I travelled through Luleå a couple of times. That train at 2:08 is an X11 EMU, which you can see from its two double-leaf doors, where the X12 has one single-leaf door and the X14 has two single-leaf doors per car. You mentioned the Contessa trains in Växjö (8:42), and SJ actually used to operate X32 class Contessa trains on this Göteborg - Kalmar route for a short while, but this was highly criticized and promptly restored to Rc6+1980s stock.
The RC6 is similar to the RC4, which was the basis for Amtrak's AEM-7 locomotive that served the Boston-Washington DC corridor from the 1970s until a few years ago. They were a very reliable workhorse. Those Danish trains were demonstrated on Boston's commuter rail system in the 1990s. I never got a chance to ride one, but I did tour one when it was on display at one of Boston's main railroad stations.
@@jobroooo Apologies, I wasn't clear. I was referring to the ABB built DSB rubber ended DMUs featured in the video. There was a demonstration in the early 1990s where one was run on Boston's commuter rail system for a month or so.
I love the IC trains in Dalabanan (up to the mentioned Falun). Actually coaches vary and there are subtypes with different sorts of seats (the legacy Blue X coaches are IMO the best), BF7 is the "weird one" that carries the personnel but those seats are quasi 1st class. Once you get some SJ loyalty points and there is a bistro, complementary coffee! At the moment I would say these trains are the best bang for the buck, and the routes I take are not covered by the "snabbtåg" EMUs
Nice video! When I grew up in Borlänge (close to Falun) me and family usually took the SJ Inter City service down to Stockholm every now and then. I have such great memories of these trains, I remember when the locomotive and the carriages was painted in the SJ blue delivery.
Just a note, the Øresundtog also travels to Kalmar, as shows on the departure bostd at Kalmar. So its not just to Växjö :-) Btw before the toilet review you told about a strange seating layout but I couldn't see it, so what was it?
Hi Simon, That is an awesome and beasty classic InterCity from SJ! I also like the black colours on the Locomotive ans the Carriages, That gives the classic train a really tough and strong look 😃 Sweden is the country for train geeks like us 😃 Great trip through Southern Sweden and you are the best Simon, Keep on moving Bro! By the way: Did you also spot that beautiful Swedish Lady with glasses and dark hair on the right at 7:02? 😁
@@Simon-Andersen Hahahaha you are so funny Bro! But one thing I know is that Sweden (and also Denmark) has a lot of beautiful women, That is typical Scandinavian fact 😃
Old tech is what seems to work the best here, the new trains just break down in winter. That's why I love seeing our old locomotives going strong still doing their job as usual.
If it's cold outside they are warm and cosy inside, if it's warm outside they are even warmer inside! Built originally for 130 km/, later 160 km/h when the germans built for 200 km/h more than ten years earlier.
You were not right about the inhabitants in Växjö. In the city there's about 70k and in the municipality it is 100k. Just like Kalmar is about 40k in the city but about 70k in the municipality.
A lovely journey, thanks for sharing it with us, Simon channel. 🙏
Love u man
Thanks Albie channel, I appreciate it ❤️

The single seat in 1st class (both X2000 high speed train, and other SJ trains, as this one) is just wonderful.
Excellent presentation per usual.

Merry Xmas and a happy new years to you and yours.
You too!
As usual very well done. Hopefully soon we will see more videos on classic trains still in use in Europe ❤ keep it up Simon

Not Danish, Swedish.

During the 90s the SJ trains were blue. I think that was more beautiful than the black. Before that thecolor was a redish brown.

That Rc6 loco in the black with silver livery is one of my all time favourites. I really really really like it 😀

Only bays of 4 with the luggage racks rotated 90 degrees to follow the back of the seats, you don't see that very often anymore!

Cool " Old Train" 👍

(Fun fact) 0:10, in 1993 One of the X2000 trains visited America for their north east corridor high-speed train development.
Indeed! And there was also one sold to china! I covered it in my X2000 video :D
Hello! I would love to see you ride the new Latvian škoda trains that entered service very recently!
Some time in the future!
Super cool!
You misspelled ASEA but nice video 👍
Ah whoops, little too quick on thst one

Takker! Jeg bruger photoshop, for at fremhæve toget, klipper jeg det ud så det bliver sit eget lag og så sætter jeg en skygge effekt på det lag 😃
@@Simon-AndersenAh ja. Smart :)
Some of the routes(or at least one) that run rc6 does not have seat reservations, just so you know.
these trains are on the main route from my local station to stockholm so ive been on quite a few, theya re nice. EDIT: not same interior (i think)
all ill say is that the black livery isnt old. its quite new compared to other schemes
that is a good point

Okay close enough
You should try the night train to Kiruna
I want to! Some time in 2024 maybe :D
When they was new they just to be orange and the wagons Brown
Thanks . I like Malmö .
the trains are still good and reliable, the tracks are the pronlem since they get forever postponed service intervals
maybe on this specific line but as a general untrue just indicates that you have not followed the many probklems we have had@@C20F
ASEA not AESA.
Because the X2000 trains are only 30 years old now…🙄
😉😂
Almost young by comparison 😂
Yes but they are like new now after the upgrade, everything was changed.
Rc6 is beautiful. But the ugly modern trains have to replace it of course :(
Not many Swedes are left in Sweden, I gather. Well, good luck with that.
There has never been so many as now, standing at 8 500 000 people.
Pronounce Göteborg like: "yoeteborg", not shoeteborg.
Nope, you get the most Danish pronunciation possible :-)
@@Simon-Andersen ok, I see, I thought this was a Swedish video, but now I saw your name sounds Danish. Sorry.
