Looking to get a true 4 season tent specifically for winter use. Something that will keep me safe in a snow storm. Considering this or the nortent verna 1 that just came out. The weight savings and space seem great on this but I'm wondering if the extra weight on the vern translates to a more robust and better true winter tent. I already have a good 3 season ultra light tent so id only use this for winter storm's
I also have the new Vern 1 with a couple videos about it on my channel. Me personally, I would pick the vern1 all day long, just bear in mind it's double the weight of the Scarp1. Also I think the Silnylon scarp1 is vastly superior to the Ultra.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm leaning toward dealing with the weight since I'd be planning to go heavy for winter anyways. Usually pulling the pulk behind me with gear in it.
Interesting. Will be good to see how it performs over time. How easy is it to thread the pole through the sleeve? I've got the Silnylon version and the sleeve is very tight. Also, I really don't like those fabric pole cups. Quite fiddly to get the pole in and sometimes it pops out again! Other than that I like it 😁
I found it jammed a bit more than the silnylon version. Agree on the pole cups. On the Ultra I found it is so taut that if you remove tension to lift the sides for ventilation the pole always jumped out of the cups. Whilst the design largely works for the silnylon, it doesn't work well for the Ultra in my view.
I've bought additional magnets off e bay. Very cheap. Same diameter, far stronger, and taped them over the originals with DCF tape. Far better, but just shouldn't be necessary. It's a known fault. Had to do the same with my TT Notch. Also agree re the pole cups. Fiddly and ineffective. I'm happy so far with the Ultra material. Jury out on the robustness of the inner floor though.
You keep mentioning “puncture resistance” but have there actually been any cases of this actually happening, or not? Because if not, it’s not really fair to speculate about a non-issue…
The first one I received had 3 puncture holes in it. Also when you feel the material you will understand why puncture resistance is something people are discussing. So yes it's fair to discuss it

@@honey2badger have you looked at the Chinook 1plus?
@HairyHiker2022 never heard of it...I'll have to Google it. How would it stack up against the vern or soulo or this sparka?
Well it's a 4 season 3 pole tent. But it weighs around 1.6kg I think. You can get it in 1 person, 1.5person and 2 person versions.

@@HairyHiker2022 A shame, a couple of tweaks would really improve things.

Yeah it's a design fault for sure. I just never was happy with the ultra material. Much preferred the silnylon fly.

Shame they did not improve on some if the shortcomings of the original. Opportunity missed.
Definitely. I think they were so keen to launch in the new Ultra fabric they neglected to implement some fairly obvious improvements.
I bought a scarp 2 4 years ago and it's an awesome tent, just below Hilleberg in my opinion
The silnylon scarps are great tents I agree. The Ultra is not.
That white footprint is going to get well messy 😂 I think it should of been black
Tarptent only supply a Tyvek sheet I would have gotten a quintcraft one made if I'd had the time haha
