  • Plowing New Garden Spot with Craftsman GT 3000 with a 10" Brinly moldboard Plow. This is not the best way to do it but I have 6 months to get this garden spot ready. Just a little at a time.

    Hints for people looking to plow. Sit the left side of the tractor on 6x6 blocks while on a level concrete surface and adjust the plow so that the point of the share is on the ground and the back of the landslide is just off the ground 1/4 to 1/2". Adjust more level in the field if it tries to plunge. Use tire chains or switch to R1s. Don't remove the coulter. Do remove the mowing deck, but not until you've scalped the place to be plowed. It works even better to burn it off.

  • @frios011
    @frios011 4 года назад +5

    Its a GT which stands for GARDEN TRACTOR! LAWN tractors are strictly for mowing and light duty pulling. That one is made for working. Big clue is the lugs on the rear wheels for the heavy duty transmission.

    Don't mind the you tube know it all's that have thousands of dollars to spend on a garden tractors to mow their moderate size yards. for all the people who want to plow a garden or use a box blade on the drive way, or plow some snow every year these will work fine for several years, until you can figure out what you want, and need. there are lots of older G/T out there that was designed to do what ever you want it to do for a reasonable price with the added benefit of learning to work on and appreciate old iron that never wears out, or you can save some bucks for a new one that will last for many years. watch craigs list, local auctions or ebay to slowly build up your attachments at a reasonable price. just be patient. if you figure out its not the life stile you want to follow then you are not out 10k.

    You need a wheel weight on the outboard wheel, also you need a coulter to cut the sod. mower deck doesn't help. I used to plow 4 acres with a 1974 ,16 hp sears tractor.

      Craftsman makes a sleeve hitch receiver for their mowers. It allows you to attach any of their implements. I bought this one used off of Craigslist. It works pretty good.

    Those turf tires don't help you much, I put the AG tires on mine, but I don't plow the land, mine is simply for plowing snow. I removed the mower deck, the brackets that holds the wheels of the mower deck broke off at the weld. Bought a John Deere D130 for cutting the grass. My Craftsman is a GT 5000, and I like it a lot, but was wondering if yours still runs? Thank You

    • @williamajthompson9166
      @williamajthompson9166 4 года назад

      That has a wimpy K91 TuffTork. Not a good transmission for pulling any implements.
      Only a 1.2 quart hydrostatic fluid level. And a sealed unit. Meaning you can't change the filter or flush them.
      A throw away hydrostatic vs the older Eaton, sunstrand, and IH built hydrostatic transmissions.

    • @jeremydavis2595
      @jeremydavis2595 4 года назад +2

      @@williamajthompson9166 LOL those have a Hydro-Gear 210-3010 with a separate BDU-10 pump, the same pump that the later Cub Cadets had and some of the 200 series Deere tractors in the early 90s. Fully serviceable unit, spin on filter and holds between 2 & 3 qts of 20w50 on an oil change. Not trying to be a prick about it, just presenting the facts. Before anyone turns into a smartass just know, I know what I am talking about, I have repaired enough GTs that I know every nut & bolt on most of them out there and that's a fact. The later GT6000 used a Hyrdo-Gear G730 which still uses a spin on filter. The only reason for the outcome of the job in this video was operator error, these Brinly plows work awesome when set up correctly, and with mower deck off of tractor.
