Your comments on comfort zones is spot one. Everyone is different (thank goodness!) and as long as we are willing to try something that pushes our own personal boundary then we grow as people and we shouldn't compare ourselves to others but use tjem as inspiration ❤
I also underestimated Loch Lomond. It just seemed to go on forever and when I cleared it it kept going for three more hours. I got into Beinglas around 6pm. When I re-do it this Sept I am going to walk closer to Loch Lomond on day two and try and cut down the overall distance on day three. Around 14 miles. I have started a running program too as I am not nearly as fit as I was in 2022. Hoping to get my bag weight down to around 12kg. Well that's the plan anyway. Loving this series of vids. Was looking forward to this upload all week. Thanks Matthias. ( Oh and K cider was the drink of choice about 30 years ago when I was a teenager. Nothing gets you pissed faster lol )
I did some running training too before the hike. And I do many day hikes all year round, in good weather I hike somewhere almost every weekend. But carrying 18kg was of course sth that my training didn't prepare me for. I just "know" from experience that I get used to the weight after 2 or 3 days 😀 Worst for me are asphalt roads, they give me blisters... (PS: I slept very good after the K cider... 😅)
That second part from Inversnaid Hotel is tough. Without the encouragement of others we may have given up. Totally agree stick to your own comfort zone, we walked it last year wild camped twice and pods we really appreciated those hot showers to recover for the next day, it’s to be enjoyed not a race or punishment, the sense of accomplishment at the end is just the same. Enjoying your journey cheers 👍
