My 223 pops over with a flick of a wrist everytime warm or cold and weighs way less then our new stills. The brand new stills we have need to be choked and pulled at least 4 times sometimes more if they sit between lawns anymore than 20 min bullshit when your doin 15-20 lawns a day waisted energy in the heat f that. @@ChrisRJ

This is the best video that I have found on getting past the plug on the carb adjustment screw. I couldn't find a wood screw that would work as shown in the video, so I ended up drilling the plug out with a small bit. I am not a mechanic, and I would not have been able to do this without the video. My SRM 225 runs like a scalded dog now.

I fiddled with mine for a long time and was very frustrated when it wouldn't start hot. After watching this video I went out and exposed the mixture adjustment screw as shown. I leaned it out 1 1/4 turns and it ran great. The best thing is that now adjustments can be made as needed going forward with no disassembly required. Thanks Jonquil.

Worked like a charm, took me the longest to remove the brass plug but used a 90 degree pick and was able to pop it out. I turned the adjustment screw a quarter turn to the left and now my weedeater is alive again! Thank you very much as your skill and direction saved me a trip to the mechanic.

For those who got confused as to what to do to "get to" the adjustment screw, read on...
At 4:41, he mentions and shows the "brass plug", which is at the tip of that screw he used to drill into it and pull it out. Mine had the same exact thing. What you see on the carb is just a brass circle with a lip and a dark center. I tried grabbing hold of the lip with some needle-nose pliers and pulling it out, but brass being such a soft metal it just bent & broke. So I tried his approach of drilling a screw into it and it worked great. The brass "plug" is just that, a plug. It has a black plastic middle insert which is pliable and for which a screw can drill into. So what you do is take a screw with a sharp tip that fits inside the diameter of the brass plug and drill into it, sounds odd but it works. The screw will bite down into the plastic middle and stop. Then you can take some pliers and grab hold of the screw and yank on it and the screw and plug will pop out, and voila, revealing the adjustment screw.
Now for me, un-tightening the screw (turning it to the left) appeared to add more fuel and solved the bog & stall issue when pulling on the throttle and giving it more gas. If you have the weedwacker in a stable spot when it's running you can turn this screw in and out while throttle is applied and find the sweet spot. I honestly don't know what if any badness there is if you unscrew (keep turning to the left) more than needed. I tried this when at full throttle a few times and it's never like the engine sounded bad. So in the end I just simply unscrewed it just past the point where the engine ran smooth at full throttle
Admittedly the OP blew past this too fast but as he's done it so many times, well I guess he didn't know better... Yeah it would have been great for him to show drilling into the plug, but he didn't. In any case thank you OP as this video worked for me and saved me from having to buy a new weedwacker. I tried cleaning the exhaust and a few other things and nothing worked, but this did the trick!.
That said, what does piss me off more than anything is why Echo puts this plug in there in the first place??? It's not to protect the adjustment screw from dirt or anything. So my only conclusion is they do it to simply make you go out and buy a new weedwacker, which is horrible. I've had my weekwacker maybe 3-4 years and this happened last summer. So why they cover up and plug the adjustment screw I have no idea. In any case, thanks again to the OP as it solved my issue!

Thanks for putting up this video. I have owned this weed eater for about 7 years now and it has always cranked and run good with no problems. Last week it wouldn’t run right, bogging down and dying. Searching for answers, I ran across your video. I used a 3/16 drill bit to drill out the soft brass plug, go easy, it doesn’t take much and you will expose the adjusting screw. After a little adjustment, it ran like new again. I would recommend the Echo to anyone, this one has always ran great and cranks on the first or second pull. This is the first real maintenance that I have had to do to it in the 7 years that I’ve had it.

This video is brilliant! My brand new unit, (2020 model) after being used twice, decided to run like total ass. Not enough power to even trim the light stuff. I already removed the spark arrestor, and its new, wtf? Watched three videos. They all said adjust that screw and mentioned a black plastic plug that was hard to remove. I disassembled the carb, just like u did, and with a pick , couldn't get the black part out? I even got a magnifying glass (im old) to see wtf was going on. With a small screwdriver, it felt like i was grabbing something and it has resistance. So i put it back together, full throttle running, turn screw....nothing. Still runs like ass, in all positions. So I must have been just turning the black plastic like thing that is inside the brass plug, and didnt realize that entire plug has to come out, and the screw is then clearly seen underneath it! Thank you! I will finally get my yard trimmed. Ive been badmouthing echo for a minute. My last trimmer, also an echo, was 15 years old and i never had to adjust the carb.

Just did this today. I effed up and drilled through the screw the first time around, but I had an older model echo in the attic, and it turns out the carburetor is the same. I applied the lesson learned the first time around succeeded in round 2. As an IT guy, I do not work on motors usually, but it was a cool feeling to get the weed eater working again, when I thought I needed a new one. The video is not actually step by step, but it gives enough info and figuring out the rest was pretty simple.

This helped me fix a weed eater a coworker gave me because he didn’t want to mess with it. I’d watched a lot of other vids, but this one gave me a better idea of how to get to it after it’s back together. It would be good for the vid to witness the adjustment taking place, but that’s all good. Don’t worry about the naysayers, and thanks for the vid. The weed eater is working fine now.

great vid, I did notice one thing though, you mention the fuel and return lines, I think you were going to fast and got them backwards. The green is the return and the black is the fuel, doesn't really matter as long as you put the hoses back like you take them off. It's minor but for us guys just learning the stuff as little confusion as possible is better.
