  • In this video you will learn how to #crochet this #sock money beanie. Using medium weight yarn of your choice you will be able to make this adorable beanie using only basic stitches such as chain, double crochet, slip stitch, etc. The most difficult stitch is the magic or disappearing loop and I walk you thru the process of making that stitch. This is a great gift for children or all ages. Check below for suggested hook sizes. Please realize that everyone crochets differently and with different tension. These are just suggestions. I hope you will consider making some beanies and scarfs for the beanie and scarf drive I have going for the 2 orphanages in Mexico.

    Suggested beanie sizing and hooks:
I hope you will enjoy this project. It can be made for sizes toddles thru male adult. See suggestioned hook sizes:
Infant- Size G Hook, Babies Size H hook, Toddler Size I hook. To crochet a beanie for an older child use a size J hook and a medium weight worsted yarn. For adults you can use a size K hook and a heavier weight of yarn (maybe even a chunky weight. The pattern is the same for all sizes. Only the size of hook and weight of yarn changes. This makes this the perfect beanie pattern for all sizes. From Baby - adult size. Follow the same pattern.
Adult male: Hook K, with 2 strands of yarn at one time.

Wow I have been to many places in Mexico- Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa, Cancun, Mexico City, and it was hot in the winter! I always traveled there when I lived in NY because it was guaranteed sunshine and hot weather in the winter.

I love your tutorials they are so clear. I am primarily a knitter however I learned to crochet when I was really little and doilies were all we made back then and edges on hankies, pillowcases, and towels and sheets and occasionally tableclothes and thread in the color of ecru! So then I found youtube and you, Clare Sullivan and the love able Mikey and oh my how the world of crochet has changed. I still like knitted sweaters better than crochet but hats and scarves, slippers and baby stuff

I was wondering how I could make the sock monkey beanie and diaper cover for a baby. Maybe 0-3 or 3-6 month size. Is there something I would do different on this pattern? Your videos are my favorites to watch. So informative.

Hi Yolanda, I noticed that on round 4 where you say ch 3 counts as your first stitch and 1 dc in the next 3 stitches then 2 dc in the 5th dc and you show 1 dc in the last 2 stitches but I keep coming up with 3 dc stitches left. I have frogged it mutli times and still keep coming up with a total of 57 stitches. So how many stitches in total is in round 4? Thanks

    • @suebroomhead4628

I taught myself how to crochet through the help of Utube. But, I started off by learning how to make foundation chains and did beginner crocheting. I couldn't even hold the hook properly when I started. The technology comes with practice and experience. You should be able to get what the abbreviations means on here. I also purchased a little small pamphlet from Michaels craft store that shows you how to do the stitches and as a quick reference guide to look back on. I used it many a times. Now I don't even use it as I know what sc means which is a single crochet. Dc is a double crochet and hdc is a half double crochet. Didn't dive right in there with doing intermediate and advanced projects or patterns. Start of with beginner patterns. Most all patterns tell you the skill level. I've been crocheting now for about three years and I'm still learning something new every time I crochet. I also educated myself on yarns. This will make a difference to your work as well. Most patterns will be the same and all you have to do to get a different size is change your hook size. If you have any questions I will more than gladly answer them. Hope this helps. 😘😬
