I love all your videos, you are so good at explaining things well and making things simple! Of all the things online....I look forward to your videos the most! No crazy politics, just honestly.... All the best! just jim
Thank you so much for this video! This is exactly the look I'm going for. I am having someone repaint my kitchen cabinets for me but they charge too much to glaze them so I want to just do it myself. How long do you wait for the glaze pinstriping lines to dry before you start to wipe off with the wet cloth, then dry cloth? And if my painters use a lacquer base then I won't need to use a clear coat when finished with the glazing? Or if I do, what kind should I get? I certainly don't want the lines to just wipe off later.
Thank you Eric and I agree that best video I have seen on how to pinstripe! And i have been looking for a long time. What powder glaze did you use? Also did you poly over the glaze? Thank you again!!!
Thanks for the video, very helpful application technique. I toured a cabinet factory and they actually apply with a thin stripping brush. Do you think I can add this to new factory painted cabinets. I'm a bit worried about the clear coat still looking factory applied after the glaze is added.
Thank You so much for this amazing idea Eric! My cabinets were just professionally painted with a semi gloss paint amd I reeeeeeally want to do this pin striping on them. One quick question though...Do I need to apply a clear coat or some type of sealer in the glazing? I really don't want to put a clear coat since the cabinets are already painted and they are very glossy already. Can I just leave the glaze like that?
Cindhi Smiley the Valspar zenith powered glaze I used required a top coat over it or it will just wipe off. There are some oil based glazes that you might be able to get away with no top coat but most manufacturers will recommend it or it will just eventually wear or wash off with regular cleaning. Hope that helps
Thanks SO much for this video! I'm refacing our existing kitchen cabinets this summer with all new doors and drawer fronts to increase the overlay and change the color. We're trying to stay in budget, and finished product is twice as expensive, so I'm ordering unfinished maple and spraying/ glazing myself in exactly the color combo you showed. My question is this: how long do you allow the paint to cure before applying the glaze? Is the correct order: paint, clear coat, glaze, clear coat? Thanks again for your expertise and great tutorial!
MindySimard sorry didn’t answer your question about how long I let the paint dry. It depends on the products you are going to use and the application method hand/spray gun. If you are using a latex paint some need extended dry times before top coating or the top coat will crack the paint. As a general rule most waterbase paints are 90 percent dry in 3 days. I personally use the Sherwin Williams Solo Paint and I can top coat it within 1-2 hours with no issues.
Susan Fattouh sure you can whatever glaze you are comfortable with. The waterbourne is just easy because you can clean it up/wipe it back with water instead of solvents.
Where do you get the powdered stain? I’m painting my bathroom cabinets in a satin latex enamel close to the same color you are using and I love the pinstriping. I didn’t want my cabinets covered in glaze because it does look dirty.
Diane Johanson I got it from HGH hardware supply. They are a professional cabinet supply company in my area. I think they ship. It’s the zenith powdered glaze by valspar.
Couldn’t help but notice the lines on the center panel were not as clean as the one you demonstrated, were those done and do you clean them up the same way as you did the outer strip.
Kenny Van Horn honestly I don’t remember. It’s been several years since I did that video. Best thing is to let it dry then just take a damp cloth and touch it up. If you have a lot of doors to do it’s best to spend the money and get an actual pin striping gun or you can modify a harbor freight gun to do it.
Diyana Hana I wish I could tell you it was a color match from some existing cabinets. So I just took it to Sherwin williams and had them match it. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching.
Nice! I love glaze but hate the dirty look! Pinstripe! Love it! Do you have a video on how to paint cabinets? My friend had her cabinets painted with satin Swiss coffee lacquer. Is that the same as glaze?
Lisa Myers sort of I have one painting cabinets in a garage where I went over and helped a guy fix a mess he made with his cabinets. The audio is pretty bad but there are some tips. My recommendation is if you are on Facebook to go over the page called the kitchen cabinet painting experts and you will learn a ton about painting cabinets. Glazing is different than a lacquer topcoat.
Hi Eric, Nice Job !! I have the pinstriping and grew tired of it. Is there a way to remove that line (pinstripe)l without having to paint the cabinet doors again?
Where do you get the powder glaze? This is awesome. Thanks for the idea of using a hair product bottle from the salon store. That really made a difference for me. I am finishing my island with this technique. I’ll have to video it and give you credit!
Ok read all the comments, so pretty much the only glaze that may not require a clear coat is a lacquer base, but still you run the risk that it will not be long term without clear coat right? Next will it be okay to do the glaze while the cabinets are still up? I think since the glaze it a bit thicker it won’t run?
Lulu Perez Facio should be fine I would test it first. I have heard of some painters doing it that way. Yes, all the glazes I have used recommend a clear especially water based glazes.
Kristen Yukna when it dries it turns to a powdered consistency. I don’t know if a way you could do it with a stain but you can use latex paint but it’s much harder to work with because you have to thin it and it doesn’t wipe off/work as easily.
Nice job, this is a lot cleaner than the other guy I watched!

Cool man, thanks for taking the time to make this
Yep
Thank you for the info.
Thank you Eric and I agree that best video I have seen on how to pinstripe! And i have been looking for a long time. What powder glaze did you use? Also did you poly over the glaze? Thank you again!!!
Can I just use a General Finish black glaze thinned down with distilled water?
What would you ask for to buy the little plastic bottle?
Thanks for the video, very helpful application technique. I toured a cabinet factory and they actually apply with a thin stripping brush. Do you think I can add this to new factory painted cabinets. I'm a bit worried about the clear coat still looking factory applied after the glaze is added.
Yes you can l. You will need a good sprayer to keep it looking factory

WOW that was amazing and totally fixed my problem of the cabinets looking dirty. My question is, can you use any type of glaze?

Where can I get the glazing paint for the striping ??
Hey eric how long do you wait for it to dry

What kind of paint is the black?
What color did you use on the original cabinet? It’s beautiful
Diyana Hana I wish I could tell you it was a color match from some existing cabinets. So I just took it to Sherwin williams and had them match it. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching.

Eric Reason Thanks! I’ll go to fb and check it out. :-)
Hi Eric, Nice Job !! I have the pinstriping and grew tired of it. Is there a way to remove that line (pinstripe)l without having to paint the cabinet doors again?
Usally there is a clear over it so no
Im repainting my cabinet. I would like to ask how long I need to let the fresh coat of paint dry before applying the Pin?
Depends on the coating 1-2 hours typically
Help. Someone used harsh cleaner on cabinets and stripe is coming off

That is an axalta product. Look and see where you have an axalta dealer near by
Looks neat..and do you use polyurethane after glazing
26alexther yes

Q
Wall fitting eĺèctric radiators
Can it easily be removed or would you need to strip off and refinish the entire cabinet door?
Bobby Ruggs 808 it can until it dries then it a lot harder it starts making the door dirty.
@@ericreason6559 could you just prime?
Any ideas on how to remove the pinstripes? Our cabinets have this and I would like it removed
Jacki Spaeth not without refinishing them.
Jacki Spaeth
Use a the end of a scraper and carve out the pinstripes
I'm confused on why it's called powdered stain? Do you add water to it? Can I do this technique with regular stain like Minwax?
Kristen Yukna when it dries it turns to a powdered consistency. I don’t know if a way you could do it with a stain but you can use latex paint but it’s much harder to work with because you have to thin it and it doesn’t wipe off/work as easily.
Nop. Glaze is better
After how long did you start wiping off the excess glaze ? Thanks
The waterbase is fast unless you use some extender
You have about 10-15 min.
what about a stain pen marker?
They will work
Completely different look
You did not show how to do inside corner!
Tom Wells same as the other you might want to check out a new video I have on it where I use a glaze gun. Thanks
Can’t you use a sharpie for this?? 🤔
That's what I wanted to do as well
