Rob taking until he was 24/25 to realise that he can just wait for coffee to cool down is the highlight of this entire podcast. That shit was hysterical
Was a massive fan of Shikari in the TTTS days, just went off them as my taste got heavier and they deviated down a different path. As times gone by I’ve been going back through the albums and they’re all amazing, so glad to see the lads doing well and loving what they’re doing too. Great interview!
Shikari have never been exclusively heavy. So the "not what they used to be" crowd are deluded. The "I just want the angry" punkish crowd are upset because common TTTS and common dreads and AFFOC were about punching the guilty party in the face with their message. From The Spark it became about introspection, and being ok with yourself. You can be angry and be motivated and mobile in global movements, and still learn to be ok and happy. These recents albums don't fail on the energy, they just focus on the self a lot more, and there's plenty to be angry about with respect to those things that infiltrate and disrupt your ability to be ok.
People expect bands to permanently exist in one moment in time and to never change the sound as the musicians themselves change as people. The Sam/Dan podcast episode does a great job explaining this too.
Each Shikari album was definitely fairly varied and evolved the band's sound, but the predominant sound of the band was still very heavy even with tracks like "Today Won't Go Down In History" on TTTS. The Spark went in a totally different direction and the predominant sound was far less heavy. I don't think the "Shikari aren't as heavy as they used to be" crowd are entirely wrong with what they say.
Just started this and I already know this is going to be a Banger of an episode, loving the new Shikari album, I wasn't sure at first but it really has grown on me, blasting it in my ears loads when I'm in the fitness palace of love aka the gym
"loving the new Shikari album, I wasn't sure at first but it really has grown on me" Every Shikari album ever lol. 1st week: Unsure 2nd week: This is cool 3rd week: I LOVE IT!
Please do bring back Rockness! Great memories seeing Shikari, Pendulum, Prodigy, and so many others. Was a nice festival for us up here where it's out of the way for most bands touring schedules. Especially now the only decent sized venue in Inverness shut down for more hotels.
You guys also made me cry at Download Pilot. That whole thing was just insane. Juggernauts was blasting and me and my gf were just holding each other bawling our eyes out. An insane release.
Awh man, this is making me all kinds of nostalgic! I haven't listened to Enter Shikari in a long, long while, but I used to *love* them a decade ago, when I was a teenager. I saw them live at a festival in 2013, when I was 17 years old, and it was awesome. I was hanging out in front of the stage with my then-boyfriend like an hour before the show started, because we had nothing better to do, and one of the band members came onto stage to fix something. For the life of me I can't remember who it was... but I remember he chatted to us, and I was so struck and dumbfounded because I loved this band so much, I just talked gibberish and felt really embarrassed afterwards. It was an awesome show, though! Edit: Omg, and then Rou goes on to describe the dream festival location as pretty much the festival I saw them on, Hove, which was in coastal southern Norway, in the middle of a forested area, summertime, there was a lake I believe, or people went swimming anyways, and the gibberish I talked about was the stringed lights hanging over all of the paths in the forest and how pretty it was.
God I love shikari. Still have a clip of a show I saw them at in greenville South Carolina where it was a small crowd and Rou sang to us on the crowd floor ❤️
Always when I’m at the gym I’m thinking. There are people working hard, doin km and miles on bikes, lifting shit. Why isn’t all that tied to a generator 🤣🤣
A flash flood of colour has always been my favorite album, calm down remember Gandhi. If we keep them silent, then they’ll resort to violence. That’s how we criminalize change. Anyways, nice to see Craig and his cousin Rou on a podcast. The Reynolds' HAHAHA kidding
Sure someone else will have mentioned this but on the topic of venues doubly as strip clubs, when you mention it being a separate room, you might be thinking of the (RIP) Peel in Kingston where half the building was venue and the other half, accessed via garden gate, was a strip club. I can recall attending an all dayer there in 2001 or something and losing a bunch of friends, only to discover they'd found said strip club and had decided it was more fun than the early afternoon bands on the all dayer. I was less impressed on all counts.
That's the problem with other media, they normally just have the front man and maybe a guitarist on to talk. Craig is bringing the drummers to the front and centre 🙌
Nice! I have been waiting for this album and it hasn't really left my now playing on Spotify since release. ES just hasn't missed IMO for the past 5 albums.
I remember being sat in my garden. Recently unemployed. Bevd up. Listening to Enter Shikari sing "we're apocaholics, drinking gin and tonics" and it being so brutally relevant.
Its Free-mantle, and yes there is only one E. Hope you are enjoying Aussie. If you need a best friend in Melbourne, I can show you the best spots and talk drumming.
@@reynlord666 wow sensitive 🤣 all these nice comments you've ignored, but you reply to mine just to be petty and insult me over some light criticism.. get back in the weed dude 😎
The thing about Deadwood sounding like Eleanor Rigby confirms my belief that Enter Shikari are the successors to The Beatles. I know it sounds far fetched but I don’t think any British band has reached their level of creativity since The Beatles.
19:58 Craig ...The show was In Newbury North cross leisure.
Rob taking until he was 24/25 to realise that he can just wait for coffee to cool down is the highlight of this entire podcast. That shit was hysterical
Very on brand 😂
With “RIP” “he’s not dead” coming a close second 😅
I need this Shikari/Stray tour
Another great podcast!
They toured together in 2015, but it is long overdue!
Shikari stray tour would be incredible
I’ll sign that petition 👌
Enter Straykari or something funnier idk you do the joke
100% 🙌🙌🙌

Their live shows and energy on stage and the crowd are still top-notch compared to other bands and artists out there
@@siegedoyle yesss, completely agree

I find that with a lot of shikaris music. At first you're like "wtf am I listening to?" And after the 3rd listen you start to get it
"loving the new Shikari album, I wasn't sure at first but it really has grown on me"
Every Shikari album ever lol.
1st week: Unsure
2nd week: This is cool
3rd week: I LOVE IT!
Hell yeah. Love Enter Shikari - the new record is great fun. Thanks for the quality pod as always Craig 🤘🏻

Sounds like the MK Bowl back in 2008 and 2010. Blimey!
This episode won you a new follower from the US. Absolutely clean, classy, and solid interview.
nice
First time listener. Banger Podcast keep It up.
Need Stray x Shikari run back of the 2015 state side tour please and thank you

Oh my god shikari's gigs would absolutely power small cities with those kinetic floors and things, especially the residencies at the smaller venues
Loved this podcast Craig! I've never listened to Shikari but they seem like great guys!
watched it. loved it. watched it *again* as a build up to the live outside pun.

Love you guys! Had an insane interactive and crazy fun night in Los Angeles on May. Keep it up 👍🏻
Played the White Horse in High Wycombe many times and loaded in when the strippers were still on stage! Ahhhh, memories 😂😂😂
Same here. At one point almost every week! Good times.
White Horse is still going in both its capacities for your info Creg ;) Played a show there this year and we all went upstairs after
God I love shikari. Still have a clip of a show I saw them at in greenville South Carolina where it was a small crowd and Rou sang to us on the crowd floor ❤️
This was an enjoyable chat to listen to. I don't really dig their music now, but they seem like nice fellas.
Craig is a great podcast host. Just always so casual and easy going.
Loved this podcast
The White Horse - High Wycome still exists...not a good place haha
Fun factoid

Still a great interview though 😎
Robs now my least favourite member of Shikari 😂
One of my favourite bands.
One of the WORST podcasts I've ever watched 🤣
gonna tell my kids "the world is your egg" from now on, has a charm to it
Fertilize me daddy
I didn't imagine Rob to be such a talker but I love it!
That's the problem with other media, they normally just have the front man and maybe a guitarist on to talk. Craig is bringing the drummers to the front and centre 🙌
Just thinking about Ally Pally and the Chris soundbites… NOW WE’RE ROLLIN 🎉
AIN'T NO STOPPING US NOOOOOW!
omg I was at that gig and it had me wheezing the entire time 😭😭

So excited to watch this later. Shikari best band
Rob reminds me of Russell Howard but this podcast is such a banger
Prodigy, Pendulum, Shikari, Chase and Status, DIOYY at MK bowl - was one of the best mini festivals ever.
I remember being sat in my garden. Recently unemployed. Bevd up. Listening to Enter Shikari sing "we're apocaholics, drinking gin and tonics" and it being so brutally relevant.
Shikari sound system tour 😭 I’ve missed every single one
White Horse still there, shame we lost the Nags Head though if you ever played there, you're a part of history
ShikarixStray please😍
Can you get that tattoo artist back on? Think his name was will Thompson
Please if you can, Will is funny and has great music taste!
This was a great pod!
Amazing podcast, thoroughly enjoyed it! Get Don Broco on at some point!
I was at Ally Pally for Enter Shikari's headline show when Chris had Covid, and it still absolutely smashed! Had an amazing time!
The common dreads recording stuff was gold 😂
Being from Edmonton going to “Banff, Hot springs” lol man is it disappointing. Literally an outdoor swimming pool.
“Dyou forget your trumpet?!” 😂

Jack Delany interview?
in 2023? why?
The thing about Deadwood sounding like Eleanor Rigby confirms my belief that Enter Shikari are the successors to The Beatles. I know it sounds far fetched but I don’t think any British band has reached their level of creativity since The Beatles.
I've thought the same thing with the last 2 albums now
