Many thanks for watching and commenting - I hope yours turned out as you hoped for. I've now done an update video on this - the cuttings have started growing so have clearly rooted, which is very satisfying to see.
Many thanks for the comment, I certainly hope so although I expect it will take a year or two. Keep a look out for the update video at the other end of this summer! 🌵
You have done a FANTASTIC job of planting and propagating your Cleistocactus winterii Donald :-D you are going to get a lovely basket full of hanging golden tails over time, I have propagated the tails before by cutting them 2-3 pieces and they root very easily, thanks so much for sharing with us and looking forward to the future update in a few months time, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle to Northern Spain for a fantastic evening XXXX
Many thanks Lyn, I did wonder if I'd cut the pieces too short but will see how quickly they root. Smaller pieces of Trichocereus and Myrtillocactus are rooting fine for me now things are warmer. If all goes wrong the original plant is still pretty healthy! 😀💚🌵
Fay Davies wrote an article in CactusWorld in December on them, she did a study on them in Bolivia. They grow on cliffs in areas of high rainfall and have spines running down to shed the excess water. Good bit of chopping up going on there 😁 Look forward to the roots 🙂🌵
Many thanks Ziggy, I should probably try and find a copy. I didn't know the spines were acting as a water repellant, they are fascinating plants and this was among the first batch I bought that got me into cacti. Looking forward to seeing these (I suppose I now have to use the plural) grow. 😀💚🐐
Now known as Hildawintera colademononis. This cactus is enjoying a surge in popularity here in the United States. Every cactus/ succulent show or sale has quite a few available. Although I do no have one yet, I do get to care for a nice one at the nursery where I work. As it is not for sale, I suspect that I may be permitted to take a cutting the next time it is stepped up
@@timmillan6701 Thanks for your comment. I struggle keep up with all the name changes. I have another plant that I bought as Hildewintera colademononsis, it's very similar but with white hair. I think they are basically variations of the same plant, both beautiful.
Good job! 👍 Some times ago I made this too. 🌵😊

That should look pretty great in a few years time!
