    I am a UK rugby fan, I also played stand off for the British Army. When the immense Carter hung up his boots, we all had wondered. And many of us ( including NZ ) raised our brows at Beauden. Both myself and, all the doubters, were proved wrong. This fella is the best of the best, speed, sight, understanding and grit. Ben Smith's Rugby brain needs its own video. He was in on and into everything that sniffed of points. Absolutely fearless in defence and in the air. Weighed nothing and had to stand in the front row for pictures (a mere 6' 1"). If anyone typifies the capacity for New Zealand to breed Rugby stalwarts his mug would be the poster picture I'd choose.

      imo nz does have a large degree of community support for rugby which helps nurture natural young talent, but all that time, dedication, and extraordinary hard work that puts them amongst the best in the world, is definitely all their own. imo;)

    • @israelhm7339
      @israelhm7339 3 года назад +1

      A mere 6’1? That’s not short at all for a back. A winger/fullback at 6’1 is actually pretty tall. Beauden is 6’1 and one of the skinniest players in rugby. What players lack in size or strength they make up for in being extremely smart/fast

    • @peterclark6290
      @peterclark6290 3 года назад +3

      @@israelhm7339 Which is my main point. The tactical replacement laws have boofed down the game because, usually, mass and brains are mutually exclusive. But those law changes have opened the pathway for the 50 minute player. League is the result of going boof entirely.
      We need architects back in the front row, centres majoring in Philosophy and, of course, dreary Accountants as full backs.
      The other reverse development has been the slow-down tactics of RSA and the UK teams. To do anything to give the dinosaurs more recovery time. Chasing off the water boys has become 'a thing'.
      Going pro is still a work in progress. We haven't struck the right balance yet but reducing the IQ of the game definitely isn't working.

    I'm new to Rugby from living in NZ during 2016...I was lucky to see this guy and I follow the All Blacks a bit. Watched these videos and I think rugby just may be the greatest game on earth. Barrett reminds me of Gretzky in hockey or Jeter in baseball. Just uncanny understanding of the game, the situation, the timing, the score and the intuition. What was it they said about gretzky - he didn't skate to where the puck was; he skated to where it was going to be...and jeter had the same uncanny ability to be in the right spot at the right time.

    I don't care how good Richie Mounga may be, Beauden Barrett playing anywhere other than 10 is an enormous loss to the game. It is his position, he owns it. Time is ticking and he won't be around forever.

      @@madsaku8952 not true, in new Zealand we always look forward and celebrate new talent being better than the old talent. At 7 we had waka nathan, graham mourie, jock hobbs, michael Jones, josh kronfield, Ritchie McCaw, now Sam cane and ardie savea. We made him 15 because although we thought he was the greatest player in the world, he wasn't neccesarily the best 10 in nz. He's in Japan now so mounga this year anyway.

You said they changed his position to somehow protect Carters legacy, i have provided quite a lot of evidence to demonstrate that is not how nz rugby works, you said that i didn't know what i was talking about, so why dont you illustrate your point, with some evidence then buddy, before you embarrass yourself any more?
