check and make sure also that your slide floor, on the outside when extended, isn't starting to get soft/rotted. Manufacturers only recently in the last few years discovered how to put a two dollar drip edge (usually just a plastic 90 degree molding) on each end. Without it, water comes down the sides of the slide and sticks to the underside of the slide due to surface tension, resulting in rot. You can also use 4 inch eternabond to make a drip edge too, by wrapping it around each end.
At the last GD rally we went to, the vendor for all the seals GD uses was giving away a new molded rubber "corner" that fits over the bulb seals and seals off the gap where the seals meet and the open end of the top/ bottom seals. They gave me enough to do my complete RV. They fit perfectly and stay in place with supplied 3M adhesive strips. They stated that all new GD RVs would have these. Very nice.
Excellent info! We had some rain coming in through a bedroom overhead sconce and it was because both left and right edges of the wiper seal had folded over, letting rain in from the sides. I had to manipulate them several times to get them back to form and they've been fine ever since. Thanks!
We added a slide topper on our 2021 Imagine 22MLE slide. It keeps the rain and leaves/pine needles/debris out when the the slide is out. IMHO your videos are the best out there man, thank you for consistently great content.
i appreciate that. slide toppers definitely help. I'm not a fan of them for reasons I wont get into here, but its just a personal preference. Thanks for watching and being here my friend.
Hey there! We are the sole-supplier of Grand Design slide-out seals since around 2019. Some of the pre-Jaeger models did not have our seals, and it looks like yours doesn't. Our seals are a one-piece, integrated bulb and wipe that does not allow that "track" bulb to slide off like you showed in the video. We recently developed a corner cover, we named the StyleCap that adds an extra layer of protection to your outside corners of the slide-out seals and also cleans the edges up, making it a bit more aesthetically pleasing! All new GD models come equipped with our seals and our StyleCaps! We have a few videos up on our channel about installing our seals if you'd want to check those out! Our product line is called "Flip 'N Seal" and we'd love to send you some more information about our products.
You may perhaps want to look at installing a slide awning. We camp a bunch in the mountains from spring into the fall hunting seasons. I saw your screen shot of leaves on the slide and you mentioned cleaning the slide roof of those, sticks and such before closing. An awning effectively prevents pine needle, sticks, leaves, bugs and even snow from becoming an issue when closing. The awning simply dumps the roof accumulations as you retract the room. Because it acts as a second roof, I’ve never had a leak issue from the roof of my slide-outs on any of my campers.
Thanks for watching! Personally, I dont like slide toppers. They are a great product for folks who dont want to go up on the roof to clean off leaves though. For every one person who owns one and loves them, theres another who has had problems with theirs... I've read countless posts of them stretching and sagging over time, getting stuck, breaking, and there are situations where debris does actually get underneath them (in windy environments). For me, its more added weight, something else that can break, and not needed since I go on the roof to clean everything off before moving slides anyway. It forces me to inspect the roof a lot, and is a part of my tear down checklist. End of the day a roof topper should not be the line of defense against water getting in. That is the seals job. Its just personal preference I guess, these would provide no benefit to me, and in fact would probably be a hassle to have to constantly remove when inspecting and coating slide seals, which I believe is more important than covering them. Hope that makes sense.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS You know, that does make sense. I've never thought of it that way. I suppose it depends on your camping environment, like a desert or heavily wooded areas. Thank you for your response. Love your channel by the way. Great tips and also reminders since I'm getting older. Happy camping.
pros and cons to everything... I think they are good for a lot of folks, but for me being on the roof all the time, they would just be in the way. safe travels my friend.
As always, your videos are the best in the RV industry. When we purchased our Winnebago Micro Minnie in 2022, the dealer strongly pushed their install of a slide topper. I hesitated due to a raise in our new camper price, but am happy I did as we've had no slide water inside yet after trailering thru several severe thunderstorms. Best wishes!
@CamcoManufacturing - Simply put: As a newbie RVer, I've purchased the Rhino hose, the water filter, and a number of your other products due to RV Tips & Travels recommendations -- trusting Ross and knowing he won't endorse something he doesn't believe in. Next up will be the Camco door handle. (Other purchases made due to Ross' recommendations: the 50A Hughes EMS, Eternabond roof tape, the TireMinder TPMS, the X-chocks, the Brooklyn Mattress (hasn't arrived yet), SnapPad feet, 303 Aerospace protectant, and all the tools/toys to make life on the road a little better). Translation: Keep sponsoring this channel! Ross: Thanks for sharing your tips and troubleshooting. Always appreciated.
Jason, you win comment of the month! Seriously, thank you, this comment means a lot. I refuse to charge a membership, so the sponsorships keep food on the table.
Had this issue with the same slide seal except it was on the back of a bedroom slide. Did the ezact same thing and never saw a drop again. They need to use 1 piece wrap around seals or come up with a better system.
thanks for the videos! I see you already have eternabond on the seal between the flashing running the length of the slide and the slide roof - me too! another visual check on the slideout is on the ends where the roof material comes over the side and transitions to the fiberglass siding. Over time, the putty tape behind that screwed in transition bar can dry out and water will find it's way along the screws and into the siding. Good to keep a bead of sealant along the top of that transition bar. over time you may need to remove the bar and replace the putty tape, especially as the unit gets up to 10+ years.
that isnt eternabond... its the factory tape, might be butyl tape, not sure i havent really looked at it much other than checking to see if its failing.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thank you for the excellent content you continuously provide. You are my (and I’m sure numerous other can say the same thing) #1 authority/resource for RV preventative maintenance and modifications. Your masterclasses are indeed masterclasses.
Same issue on my Salem! The seal was glued reversed on the slide-out wiper seal. Must have been built on a Friday afternoon. No water coming in yet tho. Thanks for the info.
I’m glad you found the water leak Ross things could have been a lot worse I’m always checking things out on the trailer I’ve had a slide topper on my trailer was on from the factory I would like to hear your opinion on it I think they work well
im not a fan of slide toppers, but not for any other reason than they would be unnecessary for me. Im on the roof all the time so wiping leaves off is not big deal. one more thing to break, and they get in the way when coating the slide seals, so i just choose to not get them. they are helpful for a lot of other people though.
Thank you for this information! You are my go to guy when anything pops up with my camper. I found you when I first bought my 2022 Imagine. I recently brought it home from storage to winterize, which I use your video for help. It rained on the way home I opened it up the next morning and water was on the recliner also the floor and down the side of the slide out. Nothing coming from the ceiling. After watching this I checked out the rubber seal, it is still in place. Still haven’t found out what or how the rain water got in. Perhaps it wasn’t completely closed, I will keep looking sure love your channel thank you for sharing!
Hello. We also have 2018 Imagine so we’re very excited to find your channel! Our Girl has begun to leak this year when is leaking when the Slide out is IN. I will check the corners like you suggested. I also noticed yesterday that the outer seal on top of the slide out is folding in on it self when the slide out is moving in. Should it remain out? We have had water get under our floor as a result and our floor is spongie. It is in the bathroom which is in the center. (we have the 2 door model) it has been cold up here in Ontario so it freezes and crunches when we walk on it. I also noticed a little crunching on the rear door side of the bed. We have to have it looked at but are afraid of what the repair cost is going to be. Could you recommend any hacks for fixing the floor? As you are aware, it is one complete piece of vinyl that doesn’t look like it can be fixed in sections. We appreciate you!
I can't thank you enough for these videos. I'm still learning the ins and outs being a new rv owner living in it full time. My biggest fear is any type of leak so I keep a close eye on everything when it rains. I probably inspect my roof way too much lol. Your videos make me feel like it won't be the end of the world when something does go wrong and I'll be able to trouble shoot and fix whatever problem arises. I'm considering slide out toppers and I noticed you didn't have one on that slide is there any particular reason why. Should I bother with buying and installing them on my rig? Just wondering about your thoughts on toppers. Btw my dimmer switch with the switch plate looks and operates like it was done at the factory! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Personally, I dont like them. They are a great product for folks who dont want to go up on the roof to clean off leaves though. @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Makes perfect sense, like yourself I do get up on my roof often to inspect and clean. I didn't even think about how it would actually be a hindrance when inspecting, cleaning and applying the 303 Protectant on the seals. I've heard complaints as well so I may save my money on that, they are pricey as well 😉 Thanks
I will definitely be keeping my eye on it. So far, about 2 weeks later, Ive pulled the slide in and out about 10 times and the glue is holding up. I will definitely update you down the road.
I was having a problem with the slide from almost the same issue. The slide would stop moving and get hung. I either ran the motor longer or sometimes gave it a push to get it to move. Sometimes, it would make a large pop like a big door spring coming loose. Turns out the same seal was trying to move to the inside but never got there. It just hung until the motor overcame it. Same seal. 2021 2400BH.
I had similar situation occur just this past weekend on our rv. I have a feeling mine also is coming in at top corner and running on inside of slide seal. Its amazing how water can always find a way in.
Thanks for the slide seal tip Ross. Sorry to hear about your leak. Hopefully this cures the issue. I'll definitely be checking this out on our Jayco Eagle fifth wheel... both slides. Come to think of it, it's time to treat them anyway. I like the aerospace treatment. Been using the bottle of slide treatment the dealership sold us. Perhaps I should try a comparison to see if one excels. Safe travels sir. Giddy up.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Good morning Ross. I just finished treating the rubber slide seals, inside and out. Glad I checked it. Two of the inside side wipers were pinched in the mechanism near the top of the cable slide. I was able to work them loose, but this could have been a leak waiting to happen. If y'all were in town, I'd buy y'all a couple brews for averting a potential disaster! Thanks for the video sir. Giddy up.
Just fixed a leak in my offices slide out. Had to throw away a sofa but the sub floor is OK! I'm just gonna build a work bench in the slide out instead of another sofa bed. I love my RV
Great tip Ross….Ill be checking my seals too…however my 2016 Imagine has a slide out awning luckily, I wonder if there’s an OEM or aftermarket awning you could look into….never had that issue but I’ll be looking out from now on…👍
On my second GD, 1st one was a 2020 2400bh, just recently purchased a 2024 2670 mk, had dealership install slide toppers on both, seems to help. Hopefully my 2670 is as well built as my 2400… I doubt it 🤞 thx for your videos
In 2022 we bought a new Strarcraft 281 BH, after 2 years with lots of problems ( even the frame of the rear of the trailer is not aligned) , we got a water leak and we have to replace the floor ( maybe 1/4) , the estimate cost by the dealer: 5 to 6 k, no way. Like you said, quality was better before, today, just crap trailers. Also we got an extend warranty but the dealer said isn’t cover water leak, just “mechanical “ things.
Thanks for watching! Personally, I dont like them. They are a great product for folks who dont want to go up on the roof to clean off leaves though. makes sense, just a preference thing, im sure if I got one there would be things I like about them too. Appreciate you being here my friend, safe travels.
I have a 2005 Keystone Fifthwheel. I found that not only is the wipe off/out seal not even touching the top of slide out water is coming in from behind that seal across the whole far back end. Ugh I'm gonna guide my son well sweepnout the dirt dust from the under it the whole way across the top then spray seal it then foam seal it in. Winters coming quick in Colorado I live full time in here and I could not figure out where the water was coming from. I found it yesterday so to all look good under the seal along the top of your slideouts. Outside
We just purchased a used 2021 trailer 3 weeks ago. The first day that we brought it home it was raining. My wife and son were hanging out inside the trailer at home. We than had a crazy storm cell that was hailing and pouring really bad. She called me on the phone because the slide was leaking. The water was coming over the roof and behind the top of the bulb seal. I inspected it the next day and sure enough there are 2 areas where there are cracks behind the top of the seal which was resulting in water leaking in the front of the slide. At first i was pissed but then realized how fortunate that we were to have a crazy storm like that initially while we werent out somewhere far from home. The bulb probably failed due to failure of lubrication or maintenance as the sun will break down any of the exterior rubber seals if not maintained. I am planning on doing a full replacement of all of the buld seals and wipers so that i fell confident that we will not have an issue in the near future. I appreciate your videos as they are informative and to the point.
thanks for the info, and glad you got it figured out too. you always feel better afterwards... like changing your own oil... you never want to do it, but the beer tastes better afterwards.
have you used Rubber seal slide out silicone lube 3 in 1 to wipe down the rubber seals, also what about the ETERNABOND TAPE to seal around the roof vents?
I use this instead: amzn.to/4eoRHIn here is one of the eternabond videos i made... links to the others are in the description ruclips.net/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/видео.html
Interesting fix. Would you happen to know the main points of other leaks not counting windows. I replaced alll 3 slide outer seals, bulb seals which are attached separately to the slide out. However my one slide appears to still leak in the far corner, even after cleaning and re caulking all the original points the factory did. There are no windows on this slide. On the top I overlapped eternabond on the front facing lip of the slide then dicored the edges of the eternabond stuck to the roof so as not to have peel up in the future.SLides are not crooked. Any ideas
Excellent video. Makes one think about all the places we have to check for leaks. Will be checking out the Camco filters. Btw, how are you liking your tailgate ladder, after using it for a while?
Quick question, I commented earlier about todays video, was just at my storage unit going through my brand new GD 2670 mk that hasn’t even been camped in… got on the roof, small bubbles everywhere!!!!! Obviously adhesive didn’t adhere properly. Normal??? Or contact general rv immediately?? Or just monitor???? Thx for your channel
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS so in your opinion contact dealership and get it in for service before major issues? Right now small bubbles, but they are everywhere. Thx
I noticed your add for the water filter it was attached at the water source. I always attached mine at the back of trailer. Is there a reason you have it at the water source?
We are on our second Rv. The wiper seals on both campers will fold in when pulling the slides in and then will fold back out when the slides go out! Are the wiper seals supposed to stay folded out at all times?
that happens, i dont know for 100% sure if they are supposed to stay out, but either way I will say this, wiper seals are always be "behind" the bulb seal so its not uncommon for a tiny bit of water to fall in if your closing a slide in the rain.
I've had a couple of RVs with slide-outs and have always had trouble with them. I am now retired and on the verge of getting another RV but at this point, I don't want any slide-outs.
Hey RV, I just watched your video and I must say it's really helpful and well made. I was wondering if I could help you design your thumbnails for better CTR? Wanna try out a free one?
When driving in heavy rain I get water coming in under my slide, I haven’t seen any water on the walls. In heavy rain when not towing we’ve never had a problem. Any tips for us? Wheels of our tandem axle are right under the slide.
i wish i could give you a fool-proof way of finding the issue, but its just something you might have to dig to find. Check this video out: ruclips.net/video/PfOLBTklnHo/видео.html
I found your channel about 3 weeks ago and I'm glad I did thank you for sharing your knowledge and putting these videos up and putting links to some of the good products that you made me aware of that I need to get. I've learned a few things over the course of two videos I've watched of you as. Just been busy I'm going to watch more of them to learn as much as I can. Camping world sucks I'm really aggravated with their mentality and the owner of the company doesn't like conservatives so he's a POS and I've got a still deal with them and all the warranty issues that come with campers because they just don't take pride in putting these campers out without needing warranty work. I will be filing 1099s to retrieve my abandoned credits through the IRS and Treasury because I know that camping world gets credits for everything that they do it's all accounting.
they make fridge vent screens but you should check to make sure they dont restrict air flow first. it will depend on the model of your fridge, I would ask other rv owners with the same set up
i think i did, the cheap wood used around the fridge (similar to particle board) soaks water up pretty quickly. that could have swelled and gotten bad quickly.

check and make sure also that your slide floor, on the outside when extended, isn't starting to get soft/rotted.
👍
At the last GD rally we went to, the vendor for all the seals GD uses was giving away a new molded rubber "corner" that fits over the bulb seals and seals off the gap where the seals meet and the open end of the top/ bottom seals. They gave me enough to do my complete RV. They fit perfectly and stay in place with supplied 3M adhesive strips. They stated that all new GD RVs would have these. Very nice.
thanks for the info, wondering if they will send these to owners who dont attend the rallies.
Excellent info! We had some rain coming in through a bedroom overhead sconce and it was because both left and right edges of the wiper seal had folded over, letting rain in from the sides. I had to manipulate them several times to get them back to form and they've been fine ever since. Thanks!
glad to hear you got it figured out.
Again, great information! We have rain forecasted this weekend...I'll definitely be inspecting this, thanks Ross!!
Good luck!
You’re a boss with your tips! Thank you.
lol, thank you, much appreciated.
Our product line is called "Flip 'N Seal" and we'd love to send you some more information about our products.
the glue is holding up, but would love to see what you have to offer. you can email us at management@rvtipsandtravels.com
Thanks for all the useful info! I am saving this in my RV Repair folder. I feel like I will now be able to do a better job at inspecting the seals.
glad to help
As always, your videos are the best in the RV industry. When we purchased our Winnebago Micro Minnie in 2022, the dealer strongly pushed their install of a slide topper. I hesitated due to a raise in our new camper price, but am happy I did as we've had no slide water inside yet after trailering thru several severe thunderstorms. Best wishes!
Wow, thank you!
Awesome video, I noticed that my wiper seal was puckered right in the middle, although I I've not found any leak, but I will be looking more closely!
thanks Craig, any evidence of glue? keep an eye on that my friend!
Had this issue with the same slide seal except it was on the back of a bedroom slide. Did the ezact same thing and never saw a drop again. They need to use 1 piece wrap around seals or come up with a better system.
i would agree a better seal system is needed.
Thanks for another informative video Ross! Keep them coming!
thanks Charles, will do.
thanks for the videos!
I don’t think that’s eternabond. It’s too thin. I don’t recall him doing the slide in his video.
that isnt eternabond... its the factory tape, might be butyl tape, not sure i havent really looked at it much other than checking to see if its failing.
Thanks! Awesome video.
Thank you for the generous donation my friend, it is very much appreciated!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thank you for the excellent content you continuously provide. You are my (and I’m sure numerous other can say the same thing) #1 authority/resource for RV preventative maintenance and modifications. Your masterclasses are indeed masterclasses.

I agree this is a topic we don't hear about much. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent information. Thanks for being humble and to the point.
So nice of you
Same issue on my Salem! The seal was glued reversed on the slide-out wiper seal. Must have been built on a Friday afternoon. No water coming in yet tho. Thanks for the info.
anytime!
Just love your videos.
Please keep them coming...
as long as people are watching, I will be making them!
Thank you for this information! You are my go to guy when anything pops up with my
camper. Perhaps it wasn’t completely closed, I will keep looking sure love your channel thank you for sharing!
glad to help, water leaks can be a bear to find unfortunately.
Thanks!
thank you for the donation, it is very much appreciated my friend!

Thanks for the comment as always!
This is gold. Keep the videos coming!
will do thanks Tim
I'm new to RVing just had a leak on one end of slide, not having much luck finding it. Still looking. Thank you for the information.
hope you can find it, they can be tricky. good luck!
Thanks for the info, I have the same type of slide, mine is not leaking yet. I know what to look for now!
Same seal. 2021 2400BH.
glad you got it figured out
I had similar situation occur just this past weekend on our rv. I have a feeling mine also is coming in at top corner and running on inside of slide seal. Its amazing how water can always find a way in.
it always finds a way in, its frustrating!
Giddy up.
thanks for the visit buddy
I love my RV
good to hear the floor was healthy, thats a job and a half!
Great tip Ross….Ill be checking my seals too…however my 2016 Imagine has a slide out awning luckily, I wonder if there’s an OEM or aftermarket awning you could look into….never had that issue but I’ll be looking out from now on…👍
apprently GD has been replacing some of these with 1 piece seals... interested to find out more.
On my second GD, 1st one was a 2020 2400bh, just recently purchased a 2024 2670 mk, had dealership install slide toppers on both, seems to help. Hopefully my 2670 is as well built as my 2400… I doubt it 🤞 thx for your videos
Thanks for sharing Mike, both are nice floor plans!
I have the same issue some time ago. I will check this out.
hope it helped!
Also we got an extend warranty but the dealer said isn’t cover water leak, just “mechanical “ things.
ugh, sorry to hear all that. hope you get it worked out.
Thank you, Ross. Informative as always dude!
My pleasure!
Awesome video, thank you for letting us know!
You bet!
What are the bricks in the yard for? Building a parking spot?
yep!
Hey. Why don’t you have a slide topper? Thanks

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS good points. We love ours for snow debri. Too old to get on roof every time. Torrential rain they work great. Take care
makes sense, just a preference thing, im sure if I got one there would be things I like about them too.
Outside
glad to hear you got it figured out!
I use this instead: amzn.to/4eoRHIn
here is one of the eternabond videos i made... links to the others are in the description ruclips.net/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/видео.html
Any ideas
not sure, it can be tricky to find the source, and even harder to stop it.
Looking at mine tomorrow thank you sir.
Best of luck!
Great tips as always. Move to Sunny San Diego and you don't have much rain to deal with ;)
Just a tyrannical government.
maybe someday?
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS the only thing good here is the weather. I wouldn’t encourage anyone to move here. Way too expensive.
Thanks, Ross!
welcome!
Excellent video. Makes one think about all the places we have to check for leaks. Will be checking out the Camco filters. Btw, how are you liking your tailgate ladder, after using it for a while?
love the ladder, been loading bricks for a project at home and its a life saver: amzn.to/4bFIoC2
Appreciate the straight forward facts.
my pleasure
Great info. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thx for your channel
not normal, the membrane should not be lifting from the roof. this has happened over the years with GD, whatever glue they use sucks.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS so in your opinion contact dealership and get it in for service before major issues? Right now small bubbles, but they are everywhere. Thx
absolutely, those bubbles are not normal.
Our slide out leaked due to the top sagging in the middle! Pulled the trim and structure and flipped it over arching it up !
nice, glad to hear you got it fixed!
I noticed your add for the water filter it was attached at the water source. I always attached mine at the back of trailer. Is there a reason you have it at the water source?
Just personal preference, I don’t want unfiltered water in my hose.
Very nice video bro
thanks bud
We are on our second Rv. The wiper seals on both campers will fold in when pulling the slides in and then will fold back out when the slides go out! Are the wiper seals supposed to stay folded out at all times?
that happens, i dont know for 100% sure if they are supposed to stay out, but either way I will say this, wiper seals are always be "behind" the bulb seal so its not uncommon for a tiny bit of water to fall in if your closing a slide in the rain.
Great vid!
thank you, glad you enjoyed.
Thanks I just got a camper with a slide out.
welcome!
You should do a video on adding a bidet to the toilet if you haven’t already?!
Good idea
I've had a couple of RVs with slide-outs and have always had trouble with them. I am now retired and on the verge of getting another RV but at this point, I don't want any slide-outs.
they can be a pain... knock on wood this was the first issue since we've had it.

I do this after every rain 😂
same here pretty much, hate doing it, but I guess its the nature of the beast with rubber sealers on equipment that is in the sun all day.

Camping world sucks I'm really aggravated with their mentality and the owner of the company doesn't like conservatives so he's a POS and I've got a still deal with them and all the warranty issues that come with campers because they just don't take pride in putting these campers out without needing warranty work. I will be filing 1099s to retrieve my abandoned credits through the IRS and Treasury because I know that camping world gets credits for everything that they do it's all accounting.
glad to help, thanks for being here!
What can I use on the openings for the fridge where you took off a black cover so I don’t get any wasp building nest in that area
they make fridge vent screens but you should check to make sure they dont restrict air flow first. it will depend on the model of your fridge, I would ask other rv owners with the same set up
If they glue them together why don’t they just make it one piece?
i know right?!
Guy who repairs RV’s here said: They all leak no matter how expensive or cheap. He’s been fixing RVs for 25 years.
yep, thats why its important to know what to look for and how to fix it.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet?
i think i did, the cheap wood used around the fridge (similar to particle board) soaks water up pretty quickly. that could have swelled and gotten bad quickly.
Maybe campers need gutters
They have them. That does not help with the rain that hits the side of the camper below the gutter though.
