Ive wanted a gs300/430 for ages. Theyre cheap come with good engines and theyre very good looking in my opinion (in dark blue)
recently bought a 98 gs400 for $2,500. pretty mint with 174k miles and was a 2 owner with the second owner having it for 21 years, feel like I stole it tbh.
Just picked one up for $1800...
This makes me think I might have gotten one of the best deals on these things. Mine was a Black on Beige 1999 GS300 with 145k for 4500 bucks a year ago. Mint. Sold it for 5500 2 months ago

Sport Design has unique paint color to that year, unique leather color to that year aswell. That badge is only exterior difference plus the wheels.

I’m not too sure why the dash cluster is yellow but it has something to do with the backing plate and the bulbs. If you put LED bulbs in it something with a bluish tinge it makes it more white but not a lot.
It's hard to pick a gs400 over an sc400 especially since they're way less.
The SC400 is more expensive than the GS which why I went with a GS

And used to own 95 GS300, love first gen gs looks
That brown color is so sick built tho. Saw one with tesla model Y gemini wheels and it was beautiful. The 400's are better tho. Also, the saddle leather is a pretty rare option, and the leather is usually so beat on those you cant even see the leather to begin with and if its good on the inside the general rule is there's something wrong with it. It looks way better with the blackwood trim. These lexus's last, mainly because most of the owners are over the age of 70 if its not modified by a teenager so being high miles isn't nearly as big of a deal, especially the 400's.

the GS uses CRT for the lighting on the gauges, not sure why they did that :/ but the late model sportdesign has a white cluster while the base has green

My family still have our 01 GS300. Currently sits at 282k miles and still solid (just replaced two catalytic converters over the weekend). It’s not the fastest car obviously but still quick enough to have fun in. I currently have an 04 LS430 with 118k miles that sits on BCs with swift springs that rides like silk also. I don’t know if I would be able to chose one over the other tho
They can be fast with a turbo but engine cant take more then 400 stock internals

nah gs400 the best lexus overall imo. most reliable engine, better ps system over LS, better intake than the LS, no etc compared to the 430 3uz. paddle shift. list goes on.

FYI, some douche canoe twin turbo'd his mom's 200k mile GS400 on stock internals and swapped in a used sequential drift gearbox and daily drove it for another 170k miles before he put in a ditch. Dyno'd at just under 600/510 at the wheels. Point being swap these V8s into much cooler cars.

@@kkeanu5032 The one I've driven had white gauges, it was a 2001 gs430. I've heard of and seen some that were greenish-yellowish but only on pictures. That's why I figured.
@@vakusRP probably because it was a gs430 honestly. i've never heard of white gauges but ik cuz i have had 2 2000 gs300s one sport design one normal and my girlfriend has a 2004 rx330. most of these older 2000s lexus have piss yellow gauges. don't think for any specific reason but i definitely wish they weren't that color.
It's just because of the amber bulbs. Change them to leds and it looks like a new model dash. The 2nd gen GS300 was overly built, and can upgraded and retrofitted EASILY to stand in the crowd with 2020- cars
