  • What a giant inspiration was Charlie Lennon. Great fiddle and piano player. Kind, kind person. And writer of the most excellent tunes ever. All the twists and turns, and sunny little bits of humor packed in each composition: no one did it with quite the brightness and harmonic invention … but also the easiness… as he. Always clever and intricate; never forced.
“The Smiling Bride,” is just ONE of our favorite tunes by Charlie Lennon. It’s from the Island Wedding Suite that Shannon was lucky to be part of (for a 2012 performance). In the Suite, an orchestra wraps around a small group of trad players to tell the story of a small Irish community suffering losses and the “hemorrhage of emigration” … and celebrating the hopefulness and uplift of a wedding.
Thank you, Charlie, for your incredible, timeless music.

We started this 'series' on a diff social media platform. We wanted to share a few of our favorite tunes, and record them in a minute (so we could share the whole thing). It's such a small little project. But it's been fun to blast through a few of our very favorite jigs. We're putting the vids up on YT, for folks who want an easier way to search for titles.
