- Let me tell you Why I Chose The Continental TerrainContact AT...AGAIN !
Last week we looked at 4 All Terrain tires that I was choosing from for my Tahoe, and I wanted the Toyo Open Country AT3. As you'll see I had a hard time finding Toyos from my distributors, so I had to go with what I could get. The Continental TerrainContact AT is a reliable and well built tire that I can depend on after trying it out on my truck and Suburban, but I promise I will find a set of Toyo Open Country AT3's and put them on something!

I've had my Toyo AT3 for about 500 miles and I am truly astounded how great they are for how aggressive they are. Quiet, with just the slightest humm at highway speeds. Very stable on the highway and excellent in wet weather. Looks killer also. I did a ton of homework, like watching your channel, and I was lucky to go with these and have them available in my part of the country. I'm running a P285/70/17 on a Tundra. You need these tires!
I have had several sets and I have been pleased with them.
@@CampusautoCo so you prefer the continental over the toyo at3?
Thank you for your time to do these videos for all of us out here.
My pleasure!
Yes thank you from me also🖒
Just had my toyo AT3's delivered 2 days ago. Putting them on this weekend
Awesome!
That still isn't a bad choice Matt. It will be interesting to see a 15,000 mile review and a 30,000 or 35,000 mile review.
Will do.
I knew you were leaning towards the Toyo! Contential Terrain Contact AT's are great. Mine are fantastic! I was on pins and needles waiting for your update!
Right on!
Campus automotive is simply phenomenal.
Best tire for Honda HRV? I do a lot of camping, but not so much in mud or snow. Looking for something with some longevity. Thanks in advance!
I bought a set this week based on your analysis. Like you said, smooth and quiet with an aggressive profile. I had a set of Goodyear Wranglers on my Silverado and only got 30000 miles on them. I will not buy that brand again.
Good stuff!
Love your insight and knowledge. Your doing a great job.
Thanks for watching
I have a 2021 Sierra AT4 with the same GY Fortitudes. While I like the ride quality and quietness I'm not sure how GM considers these AT tires when HT in is their name. lol Anyway, I'm contemplating switching to these Conti's as they seem to fit the bill nicely, however I also wouldn't mind something a little more aggressive looking assuming it doesn't affect ride quality noise? This truck is mostly highway driven for long family trips but we do have the occasional gravel/dirt/grass/fireroad to contend with. I'd def like to hear more about the Toyo from you as that seems like it might fit my needs/wants better. Any other tires I might consider?
Loving my new set of Continental Contact Terrains AT on my 20 Ram Limited..😁..
Good choice!
@@CampusautoCo you made me buy these...lol...Awesome tire Thanks 😁
I've had these tires for almost 2 years and they do well in snow ice mud and sand. My biggest problem is rain. These tires hydroplane easily above 50mph in pooled rain when driving on i5. If you live somewhere that gets lots of rain or they don't take care of the roads even with light rain you will have this issue. Probably gonna get something different next year.
I haven't noticed that yet. I will def be careful.
I feel good about my tire rack purchase after viewing this video. Thanks for the terrain contact info!
So after doing all my research on Forums, Tire Rack, Discount Tire it seems like the reviews are saying that the H/T model is more noisey than the actual A/T!? If this is true that is badass and I am deff getting a set. I don't actually need more than an H/T but I prefer the looks of the A/T so I would rather have the A/T if it's indeed more queit.
How would these Continentals compare to the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015?
Very Similar. I think the Yokohama AT G015 is a hair more aggressive.
I’m trying to decide between these and the TerrainContact HT. I have a ‘98 Suburban K1500. It’s a highway family road trip vehicle 100% but would like to keep some off road capabilities. Is there much sacrifice as far as MPG’s or highway handling between these and the HT’s? Seems like the HT’s May be able to handle about the same off road wise.
You won't see one bit of difference on that Suburban. I say go with the AT.
I was hoping you would go for the generals.
I really wanted the Toyo but it wasn't available.
@@CampusautoCo i have had a set of the Toyo AT 2 on my pickup. They have 50k on them and still look to be in good shape. They are E rated on a half ton. Just put a set of general atx on my 02 4runner.
I’ve had 2 sets of continental tires and both were junk .. belt separation knots on the side wall ..couldn’t bring myself to get anymore .
Do you have any opinions of the new Vredestein Pinza AT? Seems like a close competitor of the TerrainContact AT.
Здравствуйте! Тоже остановил свой выбор на этих шинах,опыта еще нет,потому что одену их весной,после зимы. Надеюсь не разочаруюсь.
Thanks for the comment. You won't be disappointed, it's a great tire
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew cab Z71, currently have the factory Fortitude HT's on it. After seeing this video, I was going to go with these as well. I don't need snow capability, as I have blizzacks on another wheels, I use in winter. Do you think I should go with these, or go with the "HT" version? My main priority is a quiet ride. Are these quieter than the Fortutudes?, Would the "HT" be much quieter than these? (I really like the look of these over the HT). Thanks in advance. I love this channel! you do a great job!
Great tires I use them on my 2015 Silverado
Hi,
Have you had a chance to test the Toyo OC AT3? I own a 2019 Ram 1500, currently running Nitto RG 275/65/20. I do not like them in the FL rain. Was thinking of going with Toyo or Falken WP AT3W, but dropped Falken & now it’s between TerrainContact AT & Toyo OP AT3
I think the Terrain Contact will be best for your application.
I had the same Goodyear tire on my silverado do the same thing in in less miles. It was the 2nd time in a row that Goodyear OE tires did not make it 20,000 miles. The first time a tire blew out and when I looked at the other tires 2 more had bubbles in them. I had to comment this guy is not making this up.
Thanks for the validation!
Can you make a tire comparison of APT tires and brands with prices? Thanks
Im looking to get new tires and im trying to decide between the at3 4s or the goodyear wrangler all terrain adventure for my ram 1500 I want white letter tires whats your opinion ?
AT3
Hi Matt - I’m enjoying the videos. I’ve got the Conti Terrain Contact AtlT’s on my half-ton and was wondering how smooth I should expect them to be at 70+. I’ve had them road force balanced recently and still get some vibration above 70 mph. Maybe that’s normal for these tires or maybe I should look elsewhere in the drivetrain?
Well, I have a vibration on my Ram over 70 too. My Tahoe is very smooth but it is 6ply and 18"
Matt I really like watching your videos! Very informative and helps us consumer make the right choice on the best tire for our needs. I've got a 2007 land rover lr3 that is currently running some mud tires and they're coming off immediately lol. Would you recommend the toyo open country at3, continental terraincontact at or falken wildpeak trail? Look forward to hearing your response. Thanks again Matt.
Trevor Hicks
Do the Toyo or the Continental. The Toyo is more aggressive if you need that.
Have you every launched a boat on a wet boat ramp with these tires? thinking of getting some myself for a F-150 2wd
I think the wet boat ramp experiences I had were with the BF Goodrich K02, Firestone Destination AT, and the Michelin LTX AT2
Still hoping for Toyo AT3's for my GMC Dually maybe things will clear up in the next few months.
I wish I could have done the AT3 but I couldn't get them. I will test them out on something!
Nice videos. do you recommend this continental for my 2017 Subaru Outback? I'm in dubt with the Geolandar G015 and this Conti.
Regards from spain!
It would be ok if you could get the correct size.
Toyo got a good product sitting at 65k miles on my 33x12.50r18’s R/T’s on my Z71 hoping to get my hands on some of those new at’s
They are super hard to get right now.
How come you didn't consider the cooper at3 4s ? Love your videos
I did. They didn't make the final three.
I
Question, I have a 2017 Tahoe Z71 and was thinking about going bigger for tire size. 275/65/18 or 285/65/18 on the OEM rims. What are the pros and cons and what would you choose?
I like sticking with the factory size to maintain the factory ride and handling but you could probably go up with just a little scrubbing.
Another thing to note is that most if not all 285/65r18 are in LT rating and will be significantly more expensive than 275/65r18 which can be found on most suvs and light trucks. Id stick with the 275s in a P rating. Get the LT version if your vehicle is heavier or you tow consistently. Im getting these in 275/65r18 for my tundra once my LTX at2 wear out.
Only reason I went for Toyo instead of Continental is because they perform bad in tire rack snow and ice test
I wish I could have done the AT3 but I couldn't get them. I will test them out on something!
Would you have gone with the APT if they had been in stock?
No, probably not.
Continental is a good tire have had it on 3 different vehicles
Me too. I have had good luck with them.
I wish you success
Thanks!
What do you honestly think of the at3 4s
I think they are good. You have to keep them rotated or they will chop up and get noisy.
They slip and slide in snow, thats for sure. I dont think the continentals have a mountain snowflake symbol and boy, it shows in the snow.
Would you recommend these over Bridgestone at revo 3, im stuck between these two. NY driving with 5-7 winter storms a season....
Yes. You might even look at the Toyo Open Country AT3
@@CampusautoCo went with your pick had Conti’s installed today
@@petermarinaro8758 how do you like them?
@@jfranco3281 they are great. Quiet nice ride, superior traction in dry and wet and have driven through 2 snowstorms without issues
How much miles can I expect on 235/85 r16 bfg? Thanks,
Depends
@@CampusautoCo My driving is mostly on Pavement, but still a figure, roughly of course! Can they cross 50K?
Good choice. I think the Cooper AT3 4S would have been a great choice for what you're doing as well.
Personal update: My General AT/X' s are doing great but man, they become absolute slicks in the mud. That deep tread depth packs the mud in and it takes a lot for it to come out. I can see now why something like a Duratrac is so popular for a year-round tire. Good snow traction and the gaps are a little bit bigger which allow them to dig a bit more. Other than that, I'm extremely pleased with the Generals.
Coopers are great workhorse tire
Awesome!
My atx slips in rain and was total s**t in 1" snow I just had. Never touching general again.
@@1LifeAdvs Sorry to hear it. I’ve had the exact opposite experience with them.
@@wasachevyguy I will be getting Cooper or toyo when there's a sale. Scary experience with my 4 months old in the truck with me.
I went with the Continental Contact AT 285-45 22
I was surprised to to find them
Three Peak Snow Rated.
Also
These are on my Ram Limited 1500.
The put 42 Lbs of air in them at install.
Should I reduce the air?
And to what?
What are you running on your Tahoe?
Thanks.
Love your Channel
Check your driver side door for the recommendation. My Ram recommends 35 & when I check them after they warm up they’re around 39-40psi. ✌🏼
My F-150 came from the dealer with 35 psi. At the first service they put the recommended 39 psi. I noticed right away. I put them back to 35 psi. If you tow or haul you want them at the recommendation in the door. I don’t do either.
I bought the same on my Ram limited and they put in 38 pounds which it states too put in ..😁
@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS I’ve had my truck since 03’ man.. I definitely know how much air goes in my tires 👍🏼👍🏼 but tks for your info.
I have E-load continental terrain contacts on my suburban . They have to be at 60 to 65 psi.
Or it handles very sluggish
165/75 LT16 / 16 inch rims
You put these tires on your Ram and seemed like you thought they were a great choice, yet here, you seem not too happy?
The Champaign of beer!
Are these m + s rates?
Yes
Whats the difference between the HT and AT?
Totally different tread patterns.
Are those the AT or the HT tires?
Both ht, and A/T. ( Deep lug tires = car won't get stuck in mud, or soggy lawns)
These are the Terrain Contact AT
Have you always been a Chevy man? Why not Expidition?
I like a little bit of everything. I had an Expedition and it was pretty good.
Cheap tire ..I had one fail on gravel road .. (SIDE WALL ) Discovery AT 3 ARE BETTER
I have had pretty good luck with mine so far.
