I went to Ukraine in April 2022, as a volunteer. I am retired Special Forces 18E, B, F and an RN of nearly 30 years, I have served in 6 wars, almost 10 years at the "Front", as the Ukrainians call the combat zone. It was interesting to see the land over which the Germans and the USSR fought so viciously over. I had an opportunity to see much of Eastern Poland, as well. Beautiful farmland and flat, like it is in Ohio. Relatively under populated due to the countless wars over 1000s of years. Lots of rivers and swamps that act as natural barriers, but once crossed, the next natural barrier is where you make your next stand. As a note the Ukrainians were extremely well educated and motivated, much more so than any of the other soldiers from more than a dozen nations that I helped train. God bless them. Be safe all.
I love this chan. But what really gets me is how the war in ukraine has gotten compared to the german / soviet eastern front campaigns. They are not comparable in the least. The numbers of men and equipment from those battles, crimea, kharkov, stalingrad op citadel , are incomparable to these modern battles we are seeing now. Soviets had Total strength: 2,300,000 soldiers (155,900-200,000 Polish People's Army) 6,250 tanks and SP guns 7,500 aircraft 41,600 artillery pieces. Germans 36 divisions 766,750 soldiers 1,519 AFVs 2,224 aircraft 9,303 artillery pieces In the Berlin Defence Area: about 45,000 soldiers, supplemented by the Berlin police force, Hitler Youth, and 40,000 Volkssturm For the investment and assault on the Berlin Defence Area: about 1,500,000 soldiers
There were British SS fighting together with a few Canadians, South Africans, Australians and New Zealanders. The actual mix is unknown but several helped SS Division NORD and blew up several T34 tanks on the Eastern Berlin Ring Road.
I imagine that German Assault Rifles were a factor in high Soviet losses in Urban warfare. But as most German soldiers only had Kar98 i would think a distinct disadvantage in the fighting. As Soviet soldiers swarming tactics would of soon overwhelmed them.
Lol. That was actually funny.... Also, the US had a 50 year "Cold War", so not really a win. The other ones however stole an ENTIRE country of Palestine and got endless reparations, for literally doning nothing !!! A clear WIN !@@theplayerofus319

Because they knew what would happen to their land, cities, and people if the Red Army prevailed. Everything they feared did happen. Not just in Germany, but in every country the USSR occupied.
@@cgardner85 The Germans were not saints, but they didn't have an official policy of rape, looting, and pillaging as the Red Army did. Contrary to popular mythology, the German military was a professional organization. They left most Soviet citizens alone unless they were partisans or Soviet commissars. Rape was a capital offense and German soldiers who violated this prohibition were regularly shot. The Red Army on the other hand, encouraged its conquering soldiers to rape and wantonly murder not just Germans, but everyone who fell under their boot in Eastern Europe. Ask most Eastern Europeans including Poles, Lithuanians, etc. and many will say they preferred the German occupation over the Soviets.
Actually the original idea was to hold the russians at the Oder and not resist the Western Allies while declaring Berlin an open city. I think good old Adold put the skids on that idea.
Hold on! Stalin had absolutely no intention of invading Europe at any time! First, he had done a 1937 purge of the Soviet officer's corps to gain control of the Russian Army. The Russo-Finnish War did not go well for the Russians. Stalin was not stupid or a madman like Hitler. He also knew he would have to go up against the Allies and America. 🇺🇸 Plus, he would have given up his plans by moving his forces to the European frontier. Stalin and Putin are two different dictators, and they think two different ways. The Soviet citizens of the time would not have supported Stalin invading Europe, and they detested his rule! thank you 🎌 🚩 🧑🎤 🏁

Perfectly Narrated
I love this chan. But what really gets me is how the war in ukraine has gotten compared to the german / soviet eastern front campaigns. They are not comparable in the least. The numbers of men and equipment from those battles, crimea, kharkov, stalingrad op citadel , are incomparable to these modern battles we are seeing now. Soviets had Total strength:
2,300,000 soldiers (155,900-200,000
Polish People's Army)
6,250 tanks and SP guns
7,500 aircraft
41,600 artillery pieces.
Germans 36 divisions
766,750 soldiers
1,519 AFVs
2,224 aircraft
9,303 artillery pieces
In the Berlin Defence Area: about 45,000 soldiers, supplemented by the Berlin police force, Hitler Youth, and 40,000 Volkssturm
For the investment and assault on the Berlin Defence Area: about 1,500,000 soldiers
Ich liebe Deutschland ✌️
There were British SS fighting together with a few Canadians, South Africans, Australians and New Zealanders. The actual mix is unknown but several helped SS Division NORD and blew up several T34 tanks on the Eastern Berlin Ring Road.
I stopped at minute 36 after the tenth (10) break for commercials and while I know that one has ro earn a living this ridiculous....
I imagine that German Assault Rifles were a factor in high Soviet losses in Urban warfare. But as most German soldiers only had Kar98 i would think a distinct disadvantage in the fighting. As Soviet soldiers swarming tactics would of soon overwhelmed them.
Europes last days...
europe today is pretty strong doe. russia cant touch our combined economy only us is crazy strong. they were the only winner in this
No they werent ... Israel was the ONLY winner in WWII@@theplayerofus319
@@adambane1719 only? Us became the strongest superpower in the world 🤣🤣🤣. Israel maybe but not the jewish people. Millions died
Lol. That was actually funny....
Also, the US had a 50 year "Cold War", so not really a win.
The other ones however stole an ENTIRE country of Palestine and got endless reparations, for literally doning nothing !!! A clear WIN !@@theplayerofus319
No they didnt. Have you ever read a book? The Soviets kept the US in constant check as a superior super power for over 50 years.... while the US couldnt win an actual war in a basic Asian country, even since then... and had to fake Moon landings to make them selves look good. lol@@theplayerofus319
Reading many comments here, I have a feeling that had Germans tried this WWII stunt today instead of in 1945, they'd not have fallen short of any kinda manpower.
:-)
18:20 Goebbels still had his hopes set on rolling out Mecha-Hitler. With his robot spider legs and his Gatling gun arms
Such a shame what we did to the German people. Great video!
Well I think we woult not have done anything like that if they hadn't started the war, would we?
@@deabajo mate bore off with that whole Germany started it we finished it. Its alot more complicated than that and I would seriously advise reading some books on proper historians, who have done their research and interviewed people close to the chancellor. You would be quite surprised.
Eh, Britain and France declared war mate !! Ever read a book?? @@deabajo
@@adambane1719 Yes, when Germany invaded Poland (and according tu treaty, Fr and GB actually had to do so), when western Europe left Hitler to anex Austria and broke Czechoslovakia (to which Fr and GB garanted the independence by the way, and France had treaty of helping CzR in case of war). I believe I read more books then you, so I am not worried of that stupid comment of you :)
"You believe"... well you believe incorrectly. Britain and France declared war on Germany, you didn't even know that basic fact... and the Bolsheviks invaded Poland just days later. You didn't know that either did you.
You haven't "read very many books" now have you?? @@deabajo
"Ex-ex Panzer Division" ?
Yeah, that would be the _twentieth_ Panzer Division mate.
Roman numerals, yeah?
What do you think made them fight until the end ? They surely had the option to surrender
Because they knew they were fighting against the forces of evil.
Because they knew what would happen to their land, cities, and people if the Red Army prevailed. Everything they feared did happen. Not just in Germany, but in every country the USSR occupied.
Not condoning the Russian behaviour but considering what the Germans did on the Eastern front I don’t think at the Russian would be so forgiving.
@@cgardner85 War is a brutal thing. And the brutalizers can become the brutalized like that and vice versa.
THE NORDIC SUPER RACE?
And are we any safer in 2024?
No,.... as a result of this loss !!!
Certainly not in Europe. Each city deals with it's own foreign gang harassing their citizens
Talk talk talk talk
Yeah it's a documentary
SWEDEN HAS/HAD 50 ARTILLERY GUNS. BLUFFERS!
Corps: 13K, div: 2K :/
Actually the original idea was to hold the russians at the Oder and not resist the Western Allies while declaring Berlin an open city. I think good old Adold put the skids on that idea.
Ya, but was it the same amount of grit needed to burn villages down?
Raped some pronunciations but still a good video
The Soviet citizens of the time would not have supported Stalin invading Europe, and they detested his rule! thank you 🎌 🚩 🧑🎤 🏁
Je t aime ma vie mon Allemagne mon amour
Some real similarities in commentary between this and the battlefield series episode of the battle of Berlin. Almost the same... Credit where credit's due. This is a copy with better imagery.
I highly reccomend a ww2 tour of Berlin, these landmarks are so impressive and there's alot of ww2 relics around still. Wherever I am I always wonder what was ww2 like here 😂🤔 odd ball I know
Don't worry Hitler survived !!! We are both alive here on Venus, Elvis house is actually just down the block.
😮
"Their reservations were deeply rooted in the potential catastrophic consequences, including the spectre of famine and the economic collapse of the capital". You mean: "they were worried about famine and economic collapse"? Someone should rewrite the narration.
Why should someone shorten their narration just because you cannot grasp basic concepts unless broken down?
Did you change the script somewhere around half way in this? The AI narration has become increasingly inept! As though the writing was randomly sprinkled with commas.
