Having retraced Stephen Roche’s ‘87 Tour in June 1989, I can vouch for the Galibier as the hardest/longest/highest I conquered of all my Pyrenean and Aloine climbs that summer. Joux Plane was so steep too. 😉👌
Both the Galibier and Joux Plane were brutal!! I considered putting Joux Plane in first place, but the length, hight and gradient in the last few kms of the Galibier won out.
@@OTHCycling yup… either northern or southern approaches are difficult. I’m planning to climb a few cols in August which will be 35 years since I last went up them. I’ll be 60 in September so I’m climbing on my Tacx every few days here 👍
