The perks of reconing at an alternator shop :)
Felt great to finally get them done - It was A LOT of hard work grinding them smooth.
LOL, thanks for checking it out, I still get a kick out of it when it comes up on my playlists :P
Ive never known anyone to take such much pride and dedication ,besides myself. and must say it brings me joy watching you create.repair and of course build from the ground up a perfect system ...been following you since the 12'' jensen and mini van daze lol bravo my friend...
Man that's A LOT of work for 6 subs. Gotta love it though. It'll make that first moment you hear it that much more intense. Tuned into this build! LIKED!
Crescendo FTW!!!
Its so nice to see you and Richard work together. Its almost looks like a father-son thing to me.
Not a problem mang, I'm always willing to update and remind :) - Thanks for replying!!
Amen to that - I'm not rushing ANYTHING with this build :D
I like watching videos like this showing us how to do different projects in the audio world. Thanks for that!!
My pleasure! Happy to know people still enjoy watching the older edits as well :)
Hey thanks man, I appreciate you watching :)
"We need something to hold down the dust caps. Oh what can I use? I've got some alternators here, maybe they will work."
I can't wait to see more. EXO keeping it real.
this looks so much better then the last time you reconed one of these
Ohh Yesh - PSI rocks!
Thanks for watching and commenting!! :)
Thanks man!! some one caved in a dust cap on one of my 18's at a little house show/get together we were having.....either way whats done is done and its time to fix it so i thought you'd be the 1st one i'd ask!
Cant wait to see this more of your build man!!
you'll have to come over and do a demo when your back in town,
Im one of the kids who brought back your hat way back in the day when you were bumpin that 18 Steve gave you.
Cheers man!
Will do man, much more madness to come :)
Wow man, I've never seen a JL18 before!!! Thanks for the comment!!
A faulty electrolydic capacitor can have a hum or a whistle to it - Kinda like a crappy PSU on your computer, as that has caps inside it. Are you more referring to the RCA's having noise being so close to the power wires? If so, yes, all 12v power wires produce and emit an electromagnetic field which can be directly picked up through RCA's along the way.
Thanks for watching the videos man!! :)
One recommendation use a piece of tape on the dust cap to set it. It makes it a little easier to set the cap more precisely.
Awesome bro, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turned out for you!!!
Much appreciated man, Thanks for dropping a comment :P
i watch through the entire add instead of skipping because your awesome
Good clip, shows people what to expect when reconing - it seems intimidating but once you've done a sub or two its fun and a nice DYI project. keep up the good work man
This video started out great . . . then it got AWESOME!!!! Is that a Mercury with a lake pipe toward the end of the video? Stereos are good . . . old cars and stereos are the best. Keep up the good work!!!
Most exciting build on youtube, ever Exo.
Wow you do a very good job on reconing. The dustcaps look perfect on there. Nice work!
waiting is worthwhile.. nice job on those recones... good luck on your new build bro.
It's very simple after you get the hang of it - Maybe I'll get some cool caps one day too :P
CANNOT WAIT TILL ITS DONE
Damn exo this is getting good. keep up the good work and best of luck with the rest of the build.
Can't wait for that!!! :D
Love the PSI logo looks so sick on woofers
Very cool man! Congratz on that!! :)
thanks for keeping posted and the build is looking sweet so far
Sweet dustcaps! Love the carbon.
Damn exo you've came along way since the van.... nice upgrade can't wait to see it bang brotha.
Awesome job man! Six 18's is gonna be so slammin in Frankie!!
LOL, awesome bro! I bet you're pumped!!! And you said it just right, it's all worth it in the end :)
you should make one of those gutted out speakers a steering wheel or something
That would be dope!
Christopher DiPietro I agree
TheLifeOfPrice did one with one 15 inch Sub
Goop all the way!
Wow, thanks man, means a lot to hear that :D
I hear yah mang - Builds take a lot of time - It's really hard to reply to every comment, film vids, edit vids, and post them while still having time to build it all in a timely manner lol
Love your vids EXO! you bring me in a good mood :) Your always happy and kind! Been waching your vids since you had the Kicker's. Have a Nice Christmas! From your "Bro" in Norway!
Sure is!!!!
But all those alternators?
You need to make some of the music that you make come available to us, the ending part especially, its EPIC!
Got two more coming up today of another HUGE BUILD!
i love the use of the alternators
Thanks man,I'll check out some of your new stuff right now :)
Nice!!! Those look real good and you did a good job man!! I love the deep bass that only an 18 will get you. I have two jl 18's that I stuffed in my 650hp trams am. I dont have any vids of it but you can see my first time on the dyno. Keep up the good work, your a basshead rockstar!!!!!
Working on it :)
It very well may happen, yes. But you should do a VM test WITH and then WITHOUT the capacitor once you get everything all installed :D
Possibly, if I am still in TN :)
Man the psi recones look sicker then the original sound stream cones with more Xmax
CHEYEA!!!! im so excited for you EXO, way too much bass for me, but awesome project, and love following the build, thanks for the update!!!
i can smell the burning CA glue from here! MMMMM! you did an excellent job shimming and gluing those parts down. They should be making some big noise in no time!
Of course! That'd be awesome man :D So I take it you are back from Windmill College? Was that was you were doing?
Glad you ended up loving NVX mang!!
This build is gonna be intense! Good shit.. I'm definitely tuned in.
Hey man, couldn't help but noticed you using epoxy to set most of the soft parts. I've got some really nice rubberized adhesive I use on my custom built subs, it's much more forgiving on the spider(s) as under high excursion, it has a little give to it instead of epoxy being a solid set and possible tearing of spiders. Really good stuff and not too expensive. If you'd like to try some out, get in touch with me and I'll have my supplier get ya some!
hey exo those subs look amazing with those psi recones
Alternators as weights to hold the cones in place. I fucking love it!
I actually have LOTS of experience with capacitors... Look at my videos on RUclips about them...That's why I don't use caps on my setups, and that's why I don't recommend them. People think that it will help "stabilize voltage", help with their lights dimming, and solve all there problems, which it won't - If you want more stable voltage you need a H/O alt and good batteries... it's hard pressed for ANY cap to do ANYTHING that will make a noticeable difference...
Nice never seen that done before you made it look easy EXO.
man the music totally sets the video off! love it haha
Yes Sir!! im all done my classroom portion so now i just have to get my internship out of the way and ill actually be done with school for now...
It can be both ways really. you can get recons for subs to make them handle more, or recones to add new soft parts to your existing one, and keeping the same RMS rating
Thanks for commenting!! :)
Absolutely beautiful!! Good job man!! Cant wait to see them in action!!!
can't wait to see these in action!....
I would upgrade the alt as well, it's not going to hurt anything. If you plan on going bigger down, that's one thing you won't have to upgrade later.
Very nice video, maybe you could add some annotations explaining what all the grinding was doing.
Nice going, as long as you got it all squared away :)
Love the face expression when your getting rid of the surround!
Using duct tape and a alternator to glue pieces together. love it!
Each sub has two coils - Each coil is 1.4ohms - Wiring each coils in parallel drops ohm load to 0.7 (as 1.4 / 2= 0.7) --- These new soft parts will give me an identical impedance for all 6 subwoofers - If I did not recone them all, some subs would have Dual 1.4ohm coils, and others would have Quad 1.2ohm coils - And obviously, that would not work. So that is why you are seeing new soft parts being used for all 6 woofers. Does that help explain some things for you my man?
i cant wait to see the videos of those monsters! nice job on the recones!
Hell yeah man! cant wait to see it all put together! what amps are you gonna be running?
Looks like you gained access to some pretty decent tools good tools are key
lucky you had enough spare alts laying round for the caps bro and gotta say they came out looking nice
Dope... that explains it... I was thinking all of your subwoofers had the same impedence from the jump. I couldn't tell that a few were Quads and a few dual. However, to be clear we reconed all of the subs with dual 1.4ohm coils? Correct?
It's a bulletin post, for all the viewers who don't log in on a daily basis. if you don't want to see my bulletin updates, just click the "uploads only" button on the homepage instead of the "everything" button. That's all you have to do.
Thanks man, The grinder worked wonders :D
hey man just wondering i got a T3A TSNS 18" and i just started conditioning my sub for a recone. do i need to save the plastic rings that hold down 2 of 3 webs on my spider
You can do it man, it's as simple as pie :)
I bet that was a good day. Great vid exo!
The music makes me fall asleep
Me either mang, much appreciate my good sir :)
more power handleing and with psi recones, your gettintg better soft parts than stock.
About 10 months of saving, planning, and purchasing.
the subs look sexier than ever , can`it wait to hear those bad boys !!
cant wait to see it done!!
if you ask me those soundstream look better than when they first came from the factory :)
they look alot better than what the soundstream cones looked like
I've been watching your videos for a while now... I've enjoyed each and every one of them... So basically reconning is the poor mans way of spending less?
Nice video EXO like always can't wait to see bass
Thank you sir!
Hey EXO thanks for posting about how to build a box I used your guide to build a box for my sa-8 and it turned out awesome! I'm gonna post a video of it tomorrow night you should check it out.
I just bought the same glue to glue in a sa-12 drop in recone. the glue is loctite 5min with mixing tubes if anyone is wondering. I'm hoping to get a demo before you move outta maine exo, that's if you have amps by then of course.
