@@xXTheRoyalTurkXxEach qirā`ah has 2 recorded riwāyāt, and they can differ quite a bit.
For example, the qirā`ah of imam Nāfi’ have the riwāyātayn Qālūn and Warsh.
      Edit:
Rasūlullah SAW told us that the Qur'an was revealed in 7 ahruf.
What the 7 ahruf exactly are, there is dispute upon the matter, but the ahruf are what resulted in the qirā`āt.
People often mention the 7 qirā`āt as Imam al Shatibi wrote about the 7 canonical qirā`āt (14 riwāyāt) in his poem "hirz al amāni wa wajh at tahāni" or better known as the "shatibiyyah".
Imām al Jazari later added the qirā`āt of Abū Ja’far, Ya’qūb and Khalaf Al ’Āshir through his poem "Al Durrah".
This makes the total number of mutawatir qirā`āt 10, or riwāyāt 20.
There are 3 more shādh qirā`āt whose chains of narrations are not authentic enough for us to read them as Qur'an, but scholars can study them to gain a better understanding for writing tafsīr etc.
Furthermore, through the transmitters of the riwāyāt, there were slight differences, and they are called turuq.
There are around 50 turuq for each riwāyah.
Hafs ’an ’Āsim has 52 turuq, the tarīqah that we commonly recite is known as the Hafs ’an ’Āsim in the tarīqah of Shatibiyyah.
The other turuq of Hafs do not have much differences, they are very few in number. The number of turuq is just a result of the combinations of these few difference.

@@ZaidK_ Oh right, SubhanAllah. Is that why they say that 7 Qir’aat further unfold into 40 something ways to recite the Qur’an or something along the lines I’ve heard about that?

@@xXTheRoyalTurkXx As rasūlullah saw told us, the Qur'an was revealed in 7 ahruf.
What ahruf here means is not very clear, scholars have different opinions.
People often say 7 qirā'āt as originally imām Shatibi wrote the poem shatibiyyah explaining the rules of 7 qirā`āt (14 riwāyāt).
Imām al Jazari later added the qirā`āt of Abū Ja’far, Ya’qūb and Khalaf Al ’Āshir making the final 10 qirā`āt or 20 riwāyāt.
We do have 3 more qirā`āt which are considered shādh and not tawatur.
Their chains of narrations are not strong enough for us to consider reading them as the Qur'an, but scholars can study them in order to derive further meanings for tafsīr.
Each of these 20 riwāyāt actually have further differences due to the transmitters who transmitted them. These differences are not many or significant in number but nevertheless recorded because that's how it was transmitted to us, and they are known to be authentic. Hafs ’an ’Āsim has around 52 turuq, and the tariqāh commonly recited is known as the tarīqah shatibiyyah.
Likewise each riwāyah on average has around 50 turuq, making the total around 1000.
