lol I just wrote you guys earlier this day that lockdown uses mobile-data and asked if you know this behavior is normal because in my understanding there should be no data usage. My iOS settings tracked 3,6GB of mobile data usage from Lockdown in ca. 5 months. Wi-fi not included!
@@manowar2816 Why? My question is why lockdown has used 3,6GB in the first place. The app is a “intern” VPN and should just block communication with addresses of the blocklist, there for should not use any data. Or is my understanding of the way the app works wrong?
Okay I did some quick and dirty testing. If you use Lockdown without Cellular rights, it still will be blocking content, but the app of the shown content uses more data then without Lockdown. I guess it will more likely try to connect to it’s blocked servers. If you let Lockdown use mobile data, the blocked app will use less data than before, but more than without Lockdown. Lockdown itself seems to take a part of the connections that before counted to the other app. So I guess the FAQ is right and thats just a question of declaration, but weird non the less because either way the content gets blocked. This is btw just a short try, so don’t rely on this to hard.
It shows that Lockdown is using data because to act as a firewall it routes traffic through the app. Therefore that 3,6GB of data was actually from the other apps you used but appearing to come from Lockdown.
I have used iPhone SE as a daily driver, and i can safely say. That i definitely don't miss it. I like having free apps and doing some actual file management, as well as OTG support. These are things all iPhones lack and it shows.
Unfortunately Lockdown isn’t automatic in reality. Every time you use a VPN service on iOS the lockdown app goes offline and needs manually reinstating ( if I remember !)
Apps like Lockdown and DNSCloak constantly disconnect and reconnect, with it dramatically slowing my internet speed without it doing so in the past. It’s annoying.
S P In times where the apps disconnect, I just manually go into the app and start it myself. Alternatively, I forget my Wi-Fi network in Settings, and inputting the password again. It never use to be like this, but this is the way it is.
Brave browser is a full browser but you can set it to open YT links in Brave, and I believe it allows playing in the background. Something to consider, otherwise YT alternatives for iOS are unfortunately limited (basically none lol)
Secure, private etc included also in that I want a small smart phone 📱. I do NOT want to drag the "modern flat-screen size smartphone" society pretends we are supposed to have. But on that matter there are not much good options out there, which also are easily accessible. Librem 5, PinePhone, Pixel 3/4, PRO1-x, de-googled Motorola are kind of HUGE! Can u make a video 📹 review / test of a smaller smartphone alternative? Cubot King Kong Mini, Conquest F2, Huawei V5p, or even iPhone 12 Mini (as iPhone SE 1st & 2nd generation are timed ⌚ out)? I bet a lot of people will/could be interested in iPhone 12 Mini, but making it as safe&secure&private (as one can be with Apple iOS aka 🔤agency backdoor 🚪capability these days)... What do you say Techlore?
I fail to understand why there’s so much emphasis on password managers. Am I the only one that thinks storing all your passwords on a single online service is a terrible idea?
yes it is....but not nearly as much as carrying it around in your wallet, written in plain text in a note book some where or just re-using passwords......its a bad idea but the best one we have so far.
Latest iPhone has unfixed DRM, where once your phone damage it'll never be fixed , you have no choice to buy new iPhone on next year It's better for wasting money and kidney than tiny phone, Better to buy playstation 5 or Xbox series , which is lesser price as iPhone
One of my friends considered switching from Samsung to a Sony PS5 but realized that the PS5 didn't fit in his pocket, which made it rather hard to use as his daily phone.
Not everyone wasting their money and kidney, some people does require a smartphone of their own choice. It is no longer that Apple is for rich and Android is for poor people, they have their own pros and cons and it is up to consumer to decide that.
@@jun_suzuki42 I wouldn't say it's just a rich/poor people difference. Apple sells phones in lower price segments, too. And poor people couldn't just afford a Samsung flagship either. In general, of course you can get Android phones cheaper than the cheapest iPhone, but they won't have the performance of the cheapest iPhone either. While there's lots of cheap crap sold running on Android, you kinda expect some amount of quality even if you buy the cheapest iPhone.
When you aren't using iOS
But still here for channel engagement.

Me too!
We need a part 2 for this!
If i use lockdown i cant use vpn at same time?
Nice list. Thanks!
I use 3 of the 7 listed apps on my 13 Pro Max today.
What do you think of lockdown vpn
is FreeOTP okay as an two-factor auth app?
Yep!
@@techlore thx
Use raivo
Mfw when I already have all of them 😄

Stop using WiFi in ios

idk about lockdown...the firewall is ok but it takes the vpn slot and i think it more or less does same thing that adguard does
Are iCloud Notes encrypted? If not I’m in need of a FOSS alternative for Apple Notes
Yes but only password protected notes
What’s the big deal of open source ? I don’t get it. And what’s A Foss?
Great information for ios users 😎👍
You can’t have a vpn and lockdown....

i prefer tutanota

Photoprism and next cloud
Or even just next cloud

cryptomator
Keep using google photos and drive but encrypt your files before uploading them to the cloud with cryptomator
Didn't know about Lockdown yet, but totally gonna try it. Just assumed that iOS restricts things like that. Thanks!

Great video. There are lot of limited FOSS apps on iOS, at least in my experience. I will download some of these apps! Can’t wait for the next one

No its end to end encrypted. No way anyone can get into it especially with 2 step enabled and a long passphrase
Nope its a really good idea instead.
better than the alternative as long as you have a very strong master password

and no this isn't a matter of gatekeeping. Some of these apps were made to combat Apple's security model...
