You can show in a video how you work in practice with the light filters. So adjusting, for example, a cold white LED to a warm color temperature that you set as your goal. That as a result you get a filter number to use.
I would like to see more about WB correction page. I wonder if this device is useful if you only use your camera - no lights. Can you calibrate this device to your camera so you always get perfect white balance?
I use this with ambient lighting often as well, and to manually set a kelvin white balance it definitely helps. As often as possible though, I'd still recommend using the custom white balance mode on your camera with a grey card/white balance card to get the best results since different brands have slightly different color profiles, and I've seen camera A significantly different in the Kelvin setting than camera B (of a different brand) even under the same lighting. Hope that makes sense.
Where this has been most useful for me is in those cases where I can't easily get a custom white balance from a card for whatever reason, or if I want to mix lighting and make sure they match the ambient light or match each other.
In your opinion…. Is it worth buying for photographers who do wedding and/or event photography?
Thanks….
Im trying to shoot a screen for a job soon and im wondering how much the color correction helped bring out the vibrance/sharpness on the screen for this video you made. And thanks for making it easier to understand this device!
Thanks for watching! :) color correction and making sure your lighting is strong and all matching etc will definitely help and this is where the C-800 comes in handy. After that it depends on the camera, color profile/log format and grading. I didn't do anything special for this video so I appreciate the kind words :)
Here I’m answering my own question about the issue with the Sekonic C-800 regarding the lack of information on how to add Memory Data to a Pre-Existing Memory Title.
Before this, I would like to credit Sekonic Tech Support Department for their prompt response describing the workaround for the missing information on the topic.
For a better understating the issue, please read my previous post on this channel.
The short answer: the solution consists in retyping the exact name of the desired Memory Title from the list of Title Memory tab. This will overwrite the desired Memory Title, allowing it to load that folder into the Memory Title tab and add new Memory Data measurements.
Tip: if the end of the titles is similar in numbers or letters, Like Willian-01, Willian 02, etc., we don’t have to retype the entire title, just the exact last number or letter.
Step-by-step workaround.
To open the Tool Box Memory from any measure mode, select the Wrench Memory icon at the right bottom of the screen.
The title appearing in the Memory Title is the one currently loaded where all memory measurements get saved. That is the one we want to replace with a pre-existing title from the title list if we have more than one.
From the Tool Box Memory function tab, select the Memory Management tab
Using the up and down arrows, navigate through the list of titles.
Please take a note or memorize the title you wish to load into the Memory Title and add Memory Data.
Hit the Close icon. This takes us back to the selected measure mode
To open the Tool Box Memory function again, hit the wrench Memory icon
Select Memory Title
Retype the Title (remember, if the end of the title is similar in numbers or letters, we don’t have to retype the entire title, just the exact last number or letter.
When done retyping, hit the OK icon. The target name from the list appears loaded in Memory Title.
Take the new measurement
Save the new measure.
The new Memory Data appears now under the new title in the corresponded Memory Title - Memory.
I wish Sekonic would have a better intuitive way to do this. For example, to load the desired Memory Title directly from a contextual Menu of the Memory Title, instead of having to retype the title, which adds extra steps.
Thank you for the well informative video.
Sekonic C-800: How to add new Memory Data to a pre-existing Memory Title other than the last one created?
All newly saved memory data seem to end on the last created Memory Title. This is regardless of the selection on the Memory Title folder. Selecting and Recalling a Memory Title doesn't work for this feature. I tried the C-800 Utility on macOS, but it doesn't allow copying and pasting memory data in any tabs.
The User Manual doesn’t address adding new Memory Data to a pre-existing Memory Title.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you bought it from Japan? If yes, then how did you change the language?
Can this measure flicker in led lights?
That is one feature that I wish it had, but it unfortunately doesn't.
Great question! Esp' for the money asked.
What is the Difference between the C-800 and the C-800 U ?
Sekonic started to add model numbers indicating where warranties are offiered, in this case "U" for United States. Older model numbers without this identifier may still have United States or international warrenties if applicable. Otherwise, I believe they're the same, check with Sekonic to make sure if this is critical for you.
What are the differences (other than price) between the C-800 and the C-7000?
That's a very good question- I'm not entirely sure, but it seems like the C-7000 might just have some more types of readings than the C-800... nothing overly common, unless you're using this in a very very technical way. Otherwise hard to say without having it here in my hand, sorry.
I'm late to the party but the C-7000 is intended for industrial use, C-800 for photography / cinematography use.
Great video, thanks! I just bought this tool, and wow, what a lot to learn. So, dumb question...when I measure a light source, and lets say it measures 5600K and has a CCi value of .1M. Does that mean I need to ADD magenta to get it neutral at 5600K, or it has measured too much magenta by .1 already, and therefore I need to add green? And what exactly does .1 mean anyway.... .1 of what? lol Sorry for the dumb questions. ;)
Does it work with HSS (high speed sync) flash faster than 1/250s?
Honestly not sure how that would work- It senses the flash of light and analyzes it so with HSS I'm guessing it would pick up on the first of the series of flashes and analyze that. I don't think there should be too much variation in quality between the multiple flashes involved in HSS though, so it should give pretty accurate results either way.
@@ScottDumas AFIAK it works only up to 1/500s so it's barely HSS (just one stop faster than normal speed). They want us to buy another expensive piece of equipment for the exposure metering :)
@@andrzejartymowicz ah well for exposure metering you’d want a different tool, yes- and I’m not sure about using a light meter for HSS in all honesty. I do have a separate one for judging exposure though since this is mainly for judging light quality, color temperature etc. It has some lx readings too but for exposure a dedicated tool is more useful
