    ------------
Nothing lasts forever. Across dynasties and monarchies, there comes a time when one flame peeters out and another ignites to take its place.
Throughout history, this process has become time-honored and is felt in sports, entertainment and, perhaps most of all, hip-hop.
No matter what role you fill in the game, there’s always a natural process of succession. Start off as a dope boy turned MC, there’s a good chance that you’ll one day progress to grown man status. At that point, another young, hungry rapper with a chip on their shoulder and plenty of inventive metaphors about pushing coke will come and take that vacant spot.
And by that same token, even the superstars of the game will have to eventually pass the baton to others. At one point in time, everyone from Run DMC and Big Daddy Kane to MC Hammer and LL Cool J was considered to be the center of the commercial hip-hop stratosphere. But with time, they were dislodged and each party took their own respective place in history.
So, now that he’s stood, statuelike, at the mountaintop where pop meets rap for so long, the question that’s beginning to swirl around in hip-hop circles is as follows.
When Drake either hangs it up or is no longer hitting like he once was, who comes to claim his coveted spot?

What made drake a superstar was his rise during the rise of the digital age. We love to see someone start small and get bigger and bigger. On top of that his lyrics seemed personal and easily relatable in some type of way, but at the same time his bars were strong enough to stick with you months and years after each drop.

    • @ericssen7240
      @ericssen7240 2 года назад +69

A lot contributed to his rise and success. 1) He was apart of a rap group (lil wayne, nicki, and young money crew) 2) He was the first rapper to get very emotional and be commercially successful doing it. 3) He had Toronto on his back. this includes the sound of that city which is now defined as 90s r&b samples and underwater sounds thanks to unique producers like 40 and Boi-1da 4) he was a crossover artist who was able to appeal to street just as much as the pop audience. 5) There's so much more but I'm tired of typing.
With all that being said, I like Jack Harlow but I don't think he will reach the stardom of Drake. There are too many pieces missing and his studio album wasn't that impressive to me. It was just cool. Drake started out conscious before he became pop which allowed him to build some die hard fans even after he went pop. This is similar to Kanye and his fanbase. I feel like Jack's fans haven't been cemented yet and those that are fans are mostly suburban kids. Drake had them and more.

One thing Drake had going was that his mom was white, Jewish, and from Canada. His dad was black and from the hood of Memphis Tennessee. And Drake himself was from a melting pot like Toronto. He wasn’t just relatable because of his music. He was relatable because he could relate to blacks whites and middle easterners seamlessly. In addition to being able to rap and sing.
All the rappers included in this video can relate to one demographic and shades of others but none can encapsulate as many as Drake could.
I see all these new rappers becoming “superstars” but not becoming ubiquitous household names and runaway successes like Drake

There are soo many variables to drakes success its hard to imagine anybody replacing him. From the him being half black and half Jewish, versatility in music he's touched most genres. Dude has a marketable look and story. I dont even see a "street" rapper being the biggest artist in music to that of a drake. But who knows. But I will say this Drake has done lyrical rap, trap rap, swag rap, rnb, dance hall, grime. Dude has rapped in Arabic and sang in Spanish. He's left quite big shoes to fill. Totally agree with this. CLB was so goofy and didn’t even fit the aesthetic that Drake built up around it pre-roll out. He completely abandoned great singles he dropped before the album in 2021, songs like Laugh Now Cry Later, What’s Next, Wants and Needs, Lemon Pepper Freestyle. And in return we got “Way 2 Sexy”??? It makes no sense and on top of that the goofy album cover killed half the hype before the album even came out. Even the lyrics on the album were so weird. “Say that you a lesbian girl, me too”. It’s obvious Drake is heavily catering to the TikTok audience. It makes no sense, he’s so much more bigger than that. He doesn’t need TikTok to blow up. HE’S DRAKE.

What made Drake so hot was his gift to write personal lyrics that were easily relatable, catchy hooks that stuck with you for years, and emotional ballads on tracks. Jack is nothing like Drake and the fact that he’s hanging out with Drake all of a sudden makes me think that Jack is some sort of industry plant and Drake probably got some sort of backroom deal for hanging out with him. There won't be another Drake. The reason (& there's many) why Drake became so big is because of impact, reach & storyline. For another artist to do this they would have to shake up the landscape of music while reaching a large variety of different consumers from various walks of life.
Drake has all around music that kids, adults, & even elderly can enjoy. Most artist simply have 1 or 2 sounds they are exceptionally good at while Drake is talented in like 5 or 6 different arenas.
In summation, we will get another impactful artist sooner than later but it is going to be someone we least expect & from someplace where we don't usually hear music artist coming from. That individual will also encompass a sound unique to them & others will want (or even need for relevance) to have it. In this copycat/microwave era, there needs to be someone who dares to be different, who is relatable, & unafraid to be themselves, while making music good enough for a multitude of people to enjoy. Pretty much who Drake was when he first got lit.

What made Drake as big as he has to deal with him crossing genres and overall his ability to make music that a lot of people can enjoy overall. You can literally see it his catalog. Where he started to lack inspiration and ambition in his music so where he gained even more popularity. If made a purely 100% rap album it may have critical acclaim but it wouldn’t do numbers compared something like views because he would only be catering to one of his audiences and not all. So to ask someone who would be the next Drake ultimately means would be the next popstar. The real question is “Who will be the next biggest rapper without having to crossover other genres?”

Jack Harlow is one of those people that just seem too good to be true. Kid is funny, confident, versatile, intelligent, down to earth, talented, driven and so much more. He’s one of the main reasons I started rapping and producing. His music just made it seem so fun to create through an artistic outlet. I’m excited to see where his career goes - right now it seems as if he can do no wrong! Happy for Jack, he seems like a genuinely good soul. Hard to find anyone with a negative opinion about him. All love - and he deserves it!

Harlow is trash. The only people in the comments saying they like Harlow are under 20. His music is not too good to be true. It’s trash

Jack Harlow is great but him being top rapper in the game would mean rap is no longer for the culture💯 Tik Tok kids would decide what’s cool now😵‍💫

No such thing as another Drake. Everybody is in their own lane and can inspire to be their next best self.

Drake mixture of marketing and being biracial also tapping in to rnb pop and rap separates him from a lot of other artist so for someone to be drake they got to be able to be consistent and hit making

Travis really one of the only ones who does numbers at least close to Drake when he drops. Not sure now though

He had a great feature run in 2021, with Baby Keem, Kanye, Drake, Don Toliver, and LIL Durk and Lil Baby, and he would’ve dropped his album last year, now we may have to wait until 2023.
