I really enjoyed your review, so to speak. Look forward to more IDLES reactions....and the sweat.
They are one of the most important bands around at the moment and THE best live band on the planet.
I saw them live last summer and they became my favourite band there and then! It was insanely good!
Them, Big Thief and QOTSA for me, for sure.
Yeah, but they're playing bigges venues now which kinda sucks
Young fathers, in my opinion are better live
Quite. AIL❤
I love Joe and IDLES - the music resonates with my soul, .the lyrics are the perfect, just the right ratio of rage, humour, vulnerability, sensuality, power. If I was 30 years younger I'd have been in the mosh pits right in front of the stage instead of sitting at the back.
The first time I saw them live, my heart almost exploded - especially with the lyrics, I was so proud that this was the music she was listening to. As you said, Justin, Joe exudes both menace & humour - epitomising joy as an act of resistance. As a cranky old lady, I am all for this type of rage, and I'm ready to see the establishment burn to ashes. This is the type of music that saved my life in the 80s and now it gives me hope for the future.
Joe's raw emotion - he speaks on stage about his losses and his grief - I wept as he spoke about losing his mother. We need more men speaking openly about feelings, and processing in a healthy way, we are losing too many men to "toxic masculinity" - that rage needs to be redirected to focus on the source.
From one cranky old lady to another - the mosh pit is still ours :) See you in there sometime!
(and IDLES were the band that got me back feeling like I could belong there again, also very emotive for me)
This comment is everything! ❤
I was up front at The Eden Sessions,a few years ago, bruised and battered ,59 years young…got hugs after the gig from the young ones surrounded, with apologies for squishing me lol Going to see these guys again in July at Cardiff Castle,I’m 62 now,see you up front 💕🎵💕
@@lizbullen6279 Ruts were better 👍👍
I love how you’ve become a source of new music for me. So grateful!
Check out Turnstile. Not new but newly successful
I had the pleasure of DJing with Joe Talbot and he is as genuine as it gets. He's always been an advocate for "love" and even at the end of his DJ set as we said our farewells he put both his hands on either side of my face and said the most sincere thank you and goodbye i think i've ever received. Just a genuinely lovely lovely man.
Thanks for all the groups you've turned me on to Justin. Including The Darkness .
They are redefining EXCELLENCE. Such a fantastic band.
You absolutely have to see the Idles live!!!
Like a cross between Electric 6’s ‘Dance Commander’, Thumpasaurus’s ‘I’m Pissed’ and The Killer’s ‘Human’. In other words, brilliant! And as two of the three aforementioned songs are aggressive dance tracks, I’d say yes. It’s absolutely possible to be a menacing dance song! 🕺👹💃
I think I'm going to arrange a playlist called "menacing dance bangers"🤣😉
@@Rocksarum YES! Please make it public & tag me if you do! 🙏🏻 There’s got to be some Nanowar of Steel in there too! 😂
🦅🤓…💖
@@NinStardust I take note too from that suggest 🗒🖋 gimme some time please😂
🦅🤓...❤️
@@Rocksarum Oh! Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing With Myself’ and Fall Out Boy’s ‘Dance Dance’ too… I might end up making this playlist too, it sounds amazing 😂
Love these vids justin, especially ones for bands like idles, sleaford mods and soft play, banging
God I’ve been listening to this song nonstop lol. I can’t get enough.
I heard this yesterday and I love it. It’s got energy and danger to it. We need this right now.
Yeeeeeeeeaaah fuck yeah. Like I needed a reason to put Idles back in the bar playlist…and the sweat.
I think there is just something about the simplicity of the music that is just so raw. It is like the whole band took their inspiration from the bassist from the Pixies.... the less is more feel.
In a very different genre but with the spirit of dancing so we can handle a sh*tty world: check out Stromae « Alors on danse » contrast of lyrics (in French ;o) talking about life (debts, divorce, pain etc.) and light dancy chorus - felt like a release of all the down energy …
🇧🇪
Justin, all their songs are kinda awesome!
It's so so good!! I love all of their stuff ❤️❤️
Super chilled and wonderfully informative Mr Hawkins. 🎉🎉
I love Idles so much. And Dancer is such a banger.
Intense is how I describe them. Everyone in this band was meant to be right where they are. Joe is amazing
I'm seeing them in New Orleans in June. Can't wait!!
Hair's coming in nicely, my shaggy mate. There seems to be a movement of these pushy speak-singing narrative songs reminiscent of Sleaford Mods and Electric Six and dare I say Gunther. It was scratching at the back of my brain when I realized it reminds me of Iggy Pop's much slept-on Run Like a Villain from the album Zombie Birdhouse. Lovely.
Run Like a Villain? Damn, that's a deep cut.
Do you thing the song was inspired by someone touching Joe's tra-la-la?...And the sweat!!!
@@andrewlowery6030 His ding ding dong?!
I am learning to love Idles now. I do like Pop Pop Pop. Great tune.
It's like Motörhead and Interpol had a baby...
Me likey 👍Another new band for me. Thanks Mr H.
It's IDLES of course you're supposed to dance with it!! ❤
Alllll idles songs are awesome
Loooooove this song!!!
3:06 cocoa butter!
Idles are awesome!
good reaction. Thanks
Sleaford Mods + The Fall: yup, nailed it
I thought a lot about my comment, taking time to structure it to express my intelligence and nuance. I proof read it numerous times, to ensure it conveys my learned and refined personality. My comment: "AND THE SWEAT". Thank you. Thank you.
Been listening to this one a lot, big IDLES fan... They are all pretty local to where I live.
What a band, Think its "Cocoa butter" running down the neck...
And the sweat
I see so much hate for Idles. But they make me feel pretty feral. It’s raw and passionate. And I’ve heard their live shows are insane. They’re playing in my hometown this time next year; gonna have to check them out live.
Love for you to check Idles song, Gift Horse, it's so friggin great!
Idles are fookin top. Proper band
Please do the rest of tangk x
Have you ever heard of the French-Canadian band The Box? His voice reminds me of the lead singer's. Very distinctive.
ILDES is he best group out there. done.
Its compelling
I hear a Scottish version of Cake. I can't hear this enough
Can you be funny and menacing at the same time?...."Kill em' with kindness" by The Idles.
Need to hear your thoughts on Geese!!
Im fairly certain that intro is from the thunderbirds
I'm sure mangomover1049 is a reference to the idles track 1049 GOTHO
Hey Justin, all those numbers on the end of commenters’ names were put there by Google, a while ago. Lovin’ yer form. Cheers.
And here was I thinking that a pedal note is a sustained note during which the harmony is altered by the musician. Also, "cocoa butter running down your neck" is clear sexual innuendo in the song's lyrics. As for dancing, well, there are cave paintings that depict our early ancestors doing it. So clearly, dancing is instinctive for people when they hear music. I think "menacing" and "funny" is British gallows humour. Anyway, The Idles are, I think, performing a simple dance-punk song, and bands like LCD Soundsystem have been playing that for years.
I was surprised that you picked those song over "Gift Horse"
Dancer is good
Gift Horse is , perhaps, their best single release ever. It's ferocious. The video is an absolute banger.
It really doesn't matter which is best. Sad long as people are drawn to the weirdness that is Idles
Gift horse was released a couple of days ago, this video is 2 months old.....
Woof!
This expression doesn’t get used enough 😅
Die Spitz use a great “woof” in their “Hair Of Dog” song.
He seems angry for dancingbut I do love it
and the sweat.
Isn't the strings intro sampled from James Brown
All I could think was that the janitor is listening to Dean Martin (...and the sweat)
Would love to hear your thoughts on The Voidz latest track, The Flexorcist
Ken Loach is my takeaway observation for this episode.
I kinda wish that the Darkness would take some risks!
Can you react to Danny Nedelko by Idles at Glastonbury 24 when Banksys raft surfed the crowd
Is Joe Talbot is the new Phil Collins? Soccer moms adore him.
Man i find soo much cool music through you 🤘 side note clown core kentish town. You going? 🤡
It’s a very belligerent song to dance to, aggro on a platter.
Big Idles fan here but this song just doesn't do it for me. Think it's a bit dull tbh.
@7:31 Like Pinter you mean?
Do some jelusick they dropped a new album dino jelusick is in whitesnake at the moment his vocals are amazing and the guitar work on there album is fantastic it’s follow the blind man 🤟
I don't know. The sound comes across as too Eastern Bloc for me.
One off the finest band from the uk right now.
For my ears its utter Shite but thats whats great about music & art is that its subjective & will find it audience of fans 🙌🎆
I don't know what I make of this, but sweat 👀🤷🏼♀️🤣🤣🤣
Pixies. Pixies.And Pixies.
That thumbnail looks like Freddie mercury and Damon Albarn had a baby
Anyone else getting really, reelly sick of hearing "Justin Hawkins rides aaaaa...gainnnnn, agaaaaiiiiiinnnnnnn..." twice in each video?? Damn, especially when watching vids back to back! Arghhh ...it drives me insane! I skip everything at the start until I see that he's put that damn guitar down. Might be important info for the vid, but it's worth it... Trust me! 🙄🙄🙄😂
What makes Idles' songs great?
Maybe it's because love and aggression intertwine in them.
Very B52s (not a bad thing)
Joe Talbot has the best phrasing. So to speak!
Also Justin, if the sweat is the best part, you're doing a lot of tings wrong luv 😁
Or a lot of things right 😏
Kinda ?
You say post brexit Britain like somethings changed?
yeah I did not get that reference at all.
Creepy hat 😂
I've been on a steady diet of Amyl and the Sniffers, The Viagra Boys and Sleaford Mods for the last couple of months , and I don't know what it is , but I can't really get into these guys. I feel like they are too self conscious or something... not quite loose enough... a bit contrived, a bit posey?
I just wish I could have hear a bit more of the song rather then you cutting in every 2 seconds.
Is this thecsame Joe (sponsored by Gant) Talbot? I'm done with them.
Another cog in the machine. Pay attention, they're merely schilling along for the payola. Reminds me of the early days of Rage
Nothing will ever be good enough…you’re not new skin, brah
IDLES always make you feel something, and it's brilliant that you can't always put your finger on it. This will inspire some of the most intense dancing the world has even witnessed. Been finishing every sentence with a sinister "...and the sweat!!!" since it came out.
So to speak!
This song isn’t just my jam, it’s my muthafucking Polaner All-Fruit.
Not sure what that means
@@MK-up1qtI think he likes it
Please pass the jelly
IDLES gigs are insane! Never been in a mosh pit quite like one of their's before
You should go to Metal gig mosh pit if you love them so much....and you will see idles mosh pit is a tea party.
P.S - Metal crowds been doing them for decades before the bourgeoisie glasto labour commies hijacked them
Is it like a warm hug? Just wondering
@@joy-jr7dg Hmmm, more like a really hot bear hug
@@benwaller1617And the sweat
@joy-jr7dg it's unbelievably intense.. And don't leave.. You'll never get back in again!
Aggressive Dancing. Violent movement. Compulsive. Infectious. Dogmatic rhythm.
I love it.
This song is so addictive, been blasting it at work and watching peeps shaking to it. That bass line hits me right in the nuts
Let me just say how much I appreciate you leaving all mistakes and accidents in the videos. Always lures a smile out of me 🙂 Just don't lose an eye!!!
Idles are one of my favourite bands of recent years. So good. And so good live, one of the best gigs I’ve been too
Probably 1 of 5 gigs you've ever attended in your whole life recommended by NME.
I had never heard them before and now I’m completely in love and working my way through their albums. Thank you for sharing this. Their performance of Samaritans on Jools Holland’s show was moving.
Check out the full set from The Basement (available on here).
June will make you cry.
Fantastic track from a fantastic band and captures their sinister intensity perfectly. I love tracks about dancing that actually feel like they're quite ominous - Joy Division - Transmission being the forefather!
It’s the background lyric during the chorus that hits me really hard - “collide us while we work it out”. Whatever you’re going through, let’s dance through it; we might as well.
What you didn’t touch on is the superb creative mix with LCD Soundsystem, I would love to know how that brilliant collaboration came. After seeing the Idles tiny desk performance and hearing MTT 420 RR I knew they were brilliant both at song writing and performance but collaborations like this take them to a whole new level. I love this song and it definitely makes you dance.
Absolutely.
Idles and LCD Soundsystem toured together last summer, and I would assume that's how the collaboration came about.
IDLES is nothing but feelings that you cant put your finger on lol one of the best bands out there right now
They embody rage, anger, love, passion and oppression. Its not that hard to put ya finger on ya own emotions.
Love this song.
Edit: holy shit Justin used and read my comment, what an honor!
Brilliant song! Idles rule!
Justin, not sure if you’ve heard of the band Yard Act? If not, think you’d like them, they’re awesome
Yes!
Love what you do. this type of analysis of new stuff has grown on me hugely. it helps that clearly you have the beans for the toast.
They always somehow manage to create anxiety in a guitar riff but also beauty and sing along songs. Joe has proper old skool stage presence and I can’t wait till they tour the UK again, or might have to save up and see them in Europe this year.
Fucking UK tour ……get in ya bastard ! Tickets secured for Glasgow
Wherever I hear the word "nihilism" my brain goes to Eyehategod. Do you know Mike IX Williams? He describes his voice as "spoiled milk."
