- For those of you who haven't been able to get to one of Slash's gigs and hear the AFD100 in the flesh, here's a little video we took when we met up with the man himself in sound check at Bataclan in Paris. Enjoy.

Slash could use any fucking amp he wanted, and get paid for doing so --- he uses Marshall for the same reason most other famous guitarists do, they sound fucking great!!
Guitar+Cable+Amp, that's it. The reverb comes from the place he's playing.

@jonte blund he uses only chorus, boost, wah wah, fuzz and octave, but the distortion and EQ it's only the amp, in the 90's he used Boss GE-7 on Use Your Illusion Tour, but since then he use only the amp, i think it's cool because there are a lot of people who try to get his tone buying a lot of pedals etc and the Slash's tone 90% is in the amp
He has assistant to change pedals for him in the back stage.
Those cabs are Slash's signature cabinets that came along with his signature Marshall JCM 2555SL Jubilee amp in 1996. Maybe you can find those cabs in ebay or something.
his tone is killer here than now in my opinion....close to that gritty VR tone
lemme start by saying i have both slash amps ...the old and new and the new afd 100 blows the freakin doors off any marshall i've owned in 28 years of playing ! It cleans up and sound like a fender twin when turned down and turned up sounds like a modded early marshall ! i'm am thoroughly impressed with it !!

The AFD 100 is SUCH a GREAT AMPLIFIER , specially the AFD mode is the PERFECT Rock sound , i play it over a 4x12" greenback speaker ...it gives me the creeps ,
i had also a JCM 800 Lead series (legendary) , but these AFD 100 is Better , Really , the sound has deepnes , soul , and when i plug in my Stratocaster with Little 59 humbucker .....Oh My Good God , its 100% Jimmy Page in the early years , such a Deepness and

Nothing like a 100w.Sounds great and kinda reminds me Slash as Angus young with a little more hair...this is my opinion and thats all it is... this amp we hear in the video sounds more open and a more vowel like than the current production AFD 100.It is a prototype ..yes.I think it comes down to the old off the shelf 800 transformers and choke vs the new off the shelf parts from who knows where....I do like some of the AFD 100 clips.Great gain amp for sure.
I bought the AFD and wasn't sure about the sound of it. I took the stock 6550 valves out and threw in some KT-88's and man did that thing come alive!! Love it!! Marshall nailed but KT-88's would have been a better valve to come stock.

To all of you who thinks this is just an JCM 800 well ot's not they are just using the chassis and Slash is just using the prototype version of the amp since it hadn't been mass produced at this time.
@KitchenMarshall Actually your wrong. slash used #39 for rehearsals. He used #36 for the actual album which was modded after #39 but was indeed a super lead 1977 plexi modded by Frank Levi. Cheers
Marshall is a good amp if you don't abuse them. Slash and any big time player does'nt use stock amps. It's all about sponsorship

@Deltarogers The first sig Slash head was a reproduction of the 87 Jubilee. Or however it was spelled! And for what I paid for mine, I can put a few pedals on and get his tone with my lp. Now that's not saying I can play like Slash. But with two Slash guitars, I can get a GREAT tone! BUT, you don't hear of anyone else that uses the Jubilee.
i think his tone has evolved over time...with GNR he had a different tone....probably the small venue in this one.but its SLASH so pretty much any tone sounds gud with that guy

yeah, but I haven't heard any clean tones at all from numerous demos. Also, Slash is still using his jubilee for his clean tone on his tour and the afd00 for overdrive only.

@Neylus Another thing is that you see, i have a Vintage Modern as slash used all the LIVE times at velvet revolver. This amp is awsome becus you change the character by usin the (body) and (detail). So if i whant i can get AFD, if i whant i can get JCM 800 36-39# and if i whant the signature slash jcm sound. So that's awsome. But in studio slash ALWAYS use jcm 800 no mod. At stage he is usin: JCM SLASH (Dirty) , Marshall Silver Jublilee (Clean) and the Vintage Modern (Dirty 2)

@ericwylde I don't see the awesomeness of it sounding just like a JCM800. If you want that sound, why don't you go and buy a JCM800? I hope this isn't gonna be a standard sounding Marshall with Slash's name on it.

@PredaDrake Its most commonly called "the mudflap girl" Slash also has a necklace like it...you can find her on goggle just type in the mudflap girl..you can even find the necklaces on ebay lol
@Deltarogers Yea, I bought mine Brand new in 97 for 1,100$. So I can't complain. But I also use the same speakers as Slash, the Celestion Vintage 30's. So I get REAL close with his sound. And granted AFD was recorded on one that was modded. The one I have has 50watts, or 100!!
@KitchenMarshall i meant superlead....a modded superlead....they didnt make plexi's back then ofcourse...watch the clips about the amp, it was a superlead....not a jcm 800 like everyone thought

Look at his last video in studio that's just jcm 800 reissues and afd heads ...
In studio he uses his original Marshall JCM800 with the #34 mod.

@math101a Exactly, he uses it live, theres no way he would use that shit if it sounded bad. And there's already reviews up for this amp and the AFD tone sounds way different.

those cabs are just normal marshall cabs with v30s that have a custom badge on them, you can buy recreations of the badges on reverb

Wish they would have made the prototype the production piece! using the high quality jcm 800 reissue platform instead of the shitty construction methods they ended up with..

@mikebecker330 if ya play it at home I dont think it will take that much tweakin'., in live situation you always play in different rooms .. sizes n' shapes it has huge (fuck this is going sexual :D ) effect to your sound so you always have to tweak 'em differently if ya want it to sound the same everytime
I dont give a fuck what anybody thinks about his playing, or how technically good or bad it is...it sounds fuckin great ! who cares about the rest?
It sounds great, just as good as a modded JVM 410. It's recorded with a crappy camera, but it's enough to understand it sounds much better than a stock JCM800, imagine to play it with a good strat. The only disappointing thing is that it will have the same old annoying signature (nothing against Slash anyway).

@RuunoYuuTuub that's the perfect way to put it, except i would say he doesn't play just over average. he's way above average. people who are just over average fuck up every now and then. slash never messes up. i think if he was interested in shredding and put his mind to it he could be a great shredder.
i dont like so much marshall aplification but this AFD100 rocks.......
first off, for the AFD album he used a modded 50's plexi....not a JCM 800, he used that one for the UYI albums. And no, he does not use this amp live, YET. It isnt quite finished.....but it does sound awesome i think....certainly not the real AFD tone....but who cares....its an awesome tone tho....but i agree, the way they built in the parts is not that good

I'm a drummer but was asked to play guitar for a band in my home town so I showed up with two 6 watt heads and 4 12 inch cabinets stacked up like those 4x12's hes got there and they looked at me like I was nuts and expected me to use just one cabinet and its like... Okay, I'm a head out then cause if you think I'm going in front of an audience with a single 12 then you need to do a little more research on live music production. Its not like they had a PA or a guy to run it. I'm not sounding like an alarm clock radio. Sorry. Now that band does absolutely nothing.
God damn I bet Marshall LOVES to put their name with anything related to Slash, he can make that bitch scream with such tasty riffs.

His amp will have point to point wiring, hand assembled. The production version will use a printed circuit board.
