I honestly love the way this looks, the props, the different planes onstage, the choreography, etc. I love how this is so much different than the original production not only because of the new elements they put in in order to have a deaf musical but how they also wanted to look and feel completely different from the original too. You have been able to give your audience such a unique experience 🌼
Saw this last night. Without a doubt the most amazing Broadway production of anything I've ever seen. (And I've seen a lot). The new staging, the incorporation of ASL, the direction, everything just kept me in awe the entire time. I don't know ASL, but the way they integrated it was beautiful (and I'd love to hear the reaction of deaf audience members). Nearly all of the show has either the actor signing while speaking/singing, or someone else signing for them. Sometimes they use projected words instead of or to translate ASL, but that's for small portions of the show and it really works. The audience reaction to everything was completely off-the-charts, and the cast fed off it, and many were brought to tears during curtain call by the audience. I've always loved the original show, but this production blows it away in every possible way.
1) is that Ali Stroker bc she's incredible (2) are they using ASL throughout the entire show? If that's the case words cannot properly describe how much I love that!
Thats amazing! I am close to fluent in asl. I love that they are making revolutionary additions. They are the first show to have an actor who is in a wheelchair, and now they are making musicals for the deaf! Why is this only on for a short time? It could be such a success and win so many awards!
Saw it two nights ago. I absolutely loved the ending! Song of Purple Summer is actually one of my favorite musical numbers after hearing it. It's so subtly powerful, and the way the harmonies work together, layer upon layer on a simple melancholy yet hopeful melody... I really liked this revival version too. People coming onstage with their clothes, and then taking the old-fashioned clothing off to reveal pure white clothing underneath, showing purity and a purging of the obsolete methods of their parents and the past...loved it. Especially when everyone walks back and Austin/Melchior is the only one left, and then he makes his dramatic exit. Touch Me and I Believe are also numbers I LOVE.
I have seen this brilliant production twice and I want to see it again! But I do feel this production should be filmed or brought on tour so that even more people can be touched by the beautiful production!
Are the new cast going to release a revival cast album? It would be really cool if they could do it in some way that still involved the sign language element, but I'm not sure how they could do that short of filming the entire cast.
+Ahmet R YILDIRIM You need to look at it not as a remake of the original Spring Awakening (because yeah, in that sense, those revivals will often be inferior to the original), but think of this as a complete reinvention and re-creation of the musicals. All comparisons aside, the staging and the ASL and what Michael Arden has done to this is brilliant and breathtaking, and if you'd look at this and treat this like a new musical, then you'd probably like it a lot more. You're right, this Spring Awakening is not your Spring Awakening, but different staging and a more inclusive cast aren't negative things.

A large portion of the cast is deaf, so yes! The whole production involved ASL. :-)

Congrats to all the cast members for making a great show!
it is a crime that this didn't get at the very least best revival and best choreography
Saw this THREE times bc I'm so obsessed. Amazing every single time.

the fact that it was never proshot is a travesty.
Wow! This is an excellent idea! They should produce more deaf shows. That would attract more people to musical theatre. I wish I saw it.
Freaking loved this. I am so utterly upset that this is off broadway now, and it has been a month. I will never be over it
AMAZING. SO LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE THIS.

Gosh, yes, SA on DVD is amazing enough, let alone this...
Josh Castille (Ernst) just confirmed on Tumblr that he has been dropping hints to the producers that the show should be filmed!
sign language? WOW. very cool
Doesn't even do it justice!
I want to see this show so much. How much do I have to pay for a professional dvd copy? I will do it. It looks so good.
one question, if one of the deaf mute actors is nominated for a tony, who is the nominee?, the guy who sings or the guy who do the character?
+sirius black maybe both?
B a i l e y probably
I'm pretty sure they both would be nominated as one. Like how all the Billy's in Billy Elliot were nominated as one person.
+theresa gardiner its true! i forget about that one
Theresa Gardiner or recieve a special tony like the matildas
Omg two switched at birth members yayay!!!!!!
What if I said I found the full show online?
+PhantomKing88 i would literally sell my soul 2 u
Better than tall at orange county high school of the arts no meja
Spring Awakening is not Spring Awakening to me without Jonathan or Lea! :/

You're right I'll go see it on February and it really looks awesome!
