In an explosive battle between young, undefeated featherweight prospects, both fighters unleashed aggression from the opening bell. Nunez initiated the action by driving Fierro to the ropes with a well-placed left hook, setting the tone for an intense matchup. Despite Fierro's resilience and effective exchanges, Nunez dominated the majority of the fight, earning the unanimous nod from judges Chris Flores (96-94), Dennis O’Connell (96-94), and Gonzalo Valenzuela (96-94).
The second round brought a twist of fate for Fierro, as an accidental clash of heads resulted in a cut on his left side. Nunez, however, emerged unscathed and capitalized on the opportunity, landing a notable right hand. Momentum continued to shift in Nunez's favor in subsequent rounds, with the Dominican fighter strategically targeting Fierro's body.
Round by round, Nunez maintained control, utilizing a combination of effective jabs and body shots. Despite Fierro's attempts to rally, Nunez's power and ring control were evident. The action peaked in round five, with both fighters exchanging powerful blows, leading to a warning for rabbit punching against Nunez.
In the sixth round, Nunez's clean right hand momentarily halted Fierro's offense, showcasing the Dominican's potent punching. Fierro, however, displayed resilience, absorbing the shots and continuing to engage. Complaints about headbutts and warnings for incidental contact added drama to the later rounds.
As the bout reached its conclusion in the tenth round, Nunez maintained his jab and targeted Fierro's midsection. Fierro attempted a late surge, but referee Tony Zaino intervened to caution both fighters for hits behind the head. Nunez ultimately improved his record to 17-0 (12KOs), securing his third consecutive victory over an undefeated opponent, while Fierro suffered his first defeat, dropping to 13-1 (12KOs).
