Guftagoo with Madeeha Gauhar

Founder of Lahore's theatre group Ajoka, Madeeha Gauhar started her career as an actor on PTV. Soon after realizing the pain and agonies of women, Madeeha left the mainstream media and co-opted her own way. As a teacher, she was awarded prison for favouring social issues and making ruling class uncomfortable. Madeeha formed Ajoka Theatre in 1983 with her fellow artistes and writers who were strongly against injustice and atrocities upon citizens. Ajoka has performed all over Pakistan and abroad and remains the leading and most prolific of all theatre groups in Pakistan.
Gauhar has conducted theatre training workshops in different parts of Pakistan for community, women minority rights activists and children. She was among the founders of Women's Action Forum in 1983 and has ceaselessly campaigned for the repeal of discriminatory laws against women and minorities.
