In my opinion Noel Gallagher is a great guitarist !! it is not virtuous and maybe not tecnical. But he have very clear What it does, loved when I improvised songs like champagne supernova, or bring it on down, supersonic And so many others ...
@@DenisVVFernandes weak? Can he not even be called average? As someone who can't play guitar at all, I only wish to be able to do some of the stuff he can do!
Indeed. I have a mate that is very good at guitar. Like insane. He's like: o that's nothing special, its easy to play. But when I ask him to play it it's nothing like this. Clearly he doesn't understand what its all about and just listenes to music in a technical way..
Dani I have a mate who can play every single Noel riff perfectly - you wouldn’t know it wasn’t NG if you closed your eyes. However, I don’t think it says much in general about his musicianship. He is able to mimic something, that’s it. I would be able to do the same with enough practice. I can mimic accents and learn languages really quickly, doesn’t mean that I can create my own though. So many skills in life are purely isolated and specific. For instance, I’ve fooled around with basic pentatonic notes for days on end and have never been able to stumble upon a hook as catchy as Noel’s. And to your point, there are thousands and thousands of guitarists better technically than Noel, but they can’t write a riff, and I think this is often due to the fact that they have so many tools in the toolbox and so much musical theory that they can’t just let it fly in practice. Either way, this is my favorite band of all time and I thank the Gallagher brothers daily!
I agree-I still recall first hearing ‘Supersonic’ as a teenager and I just loved the melody he wrote for the chorus. It was so addictive, man, and so fun to sing. I used to sit up on mi second-storey roof with a Gatorade bottle of gin and mi CD boom box, crankin out Definitely Maybe, smoking Dunhills and wavin all the girls to come up and join me as they’d walk by in their groups of four or five.
His solos are always "just what the song dictates". His solos fit the mood and the music. He never attempts to do more than he is capable of and is always very tasteful and thoughtful of each note. He doesn't try to cover up with a bunch of jumping around or weird gesturing. He is a complete musician, songwriter, and singer. That is why he is still going strong. Love this guy.
Magic Pie is criminally underrated. The solos on Champagne Supernova are like addictions you just have to continue. Time to get out my Gmex 97 DVD for another viewing.
The two solos on Live Forever remain the best for me. They might not be as long as Champagne Supernova, but they just sound biblical. Don't get me wrong I love Champagne Supernova as well.
since my two favorite guitarists are noel gallagher and peter buck, i clearly prefer style and songwriting over technical ability. i love the guitar in slide away. a love song inside a wall of sound is songwriting genius. supersonic live ending solos are always amazing.
He is able to transmit emotion with the guitar, which is what a musician looks for... Great stuff there. He is perfect for the songs. Live forever, supersonic, slide away or don't look back in anger ones are brilliant solos.
Salad Hands me too. Started and just thought it was better for left handed fretting. Cause I’m left handed, I could do it faster. People think it’s weird cause I’m left handed playing right handed.
Of course, the best solo is Champagne Supernova. Bc it's the longest ;) Totally agree with the author here. Hope Liam's musicians will keep this solo alive if playing Champagne Supernova. I would also put Bring It On Down as a honorable mention.
I always liked Noel's rhythm guitar better than his solos. Live forever on the album is his best solo. Champagne Supernova live version was always epic. Noel progressed as a musician, he's a better singer now than he's ever was.... but as lead guitarist he never inspired me with his play after Be Here Now. I always thought he might adapt a style like a blend of Marr & Gilmour, since Noel has that sense for melody but it never happened.
I agree. He did have some great solos like Live Forever, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Headshrinker, Dyou Know what I mean? His Magic Pie live solo was decent. He obviously knows the Pentatonic scale but he didn’t really break away from the one or two shapes/position or harmony bends. BB King was famous for just using two positions of the Pentatonic scale but he managed to get so much variety. He really had a lot of interesting guitar fills up to the Be Here Now period. After that he really seemed to step back from lots of guitar fills and longer solos. Even his chord progressions and song structures became less interesting with each new Oasis album. As a singer/song writer he’s one of the best of his generation. As a guitarist he was decent enough and his style served his band perfectly. But even with my criticisms of his guitar playing, I have to admit he was a guitar hero for many Oasis and BritPop fans, including me. He was the reason I picked up a guitar in early high school and bought a signatured Epiphone Supernova in Manchester Blue.
I would put the solo of the importance of idle in this list tho but the no.1 is right he is not a very technical player, u can say his skills is simple as shit, but this is Noel's shine, simple but brilliant, suits the theme of the music if u put a guitar virtuoso like Yngwie and Steve vai to play in these solo, they are masters but they still won't get the feel of Noel
Fun fact: Paul Weller wrote the solo for Champagne Supernova. Weller was in the studio messing around then Weller picked and rewrote the supernova solo and Noel fell in love with it.
So glad I called the no1 long before we got there The only guitar solo I listen to on its own without the rest of the song it's so good. Absolute 90s and peak Oasis right there
He is (was) a mega guitarist, better than the next heavy metal guitarist coz what matter is the melody and creation rather than a fast or technical sound.. he's solos were simple but profound
