USAF F-15, F-35, F-16 and C-17 activity at RAF Lakenheath

Lots of activity at RAF Lakenheath today with the departure of two C-17A Globemaster IIIs from Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, respectively, and an F-16C Fighting Falcon from Aviano Air Base, Italy.

I love the sound of jet engines, but what is it about military jets that make them almost deafening? An md80 is many times heavier, has two engines, and is also low bypass turbine, produces less sound.
