    I’m a huge fan of Joker knives. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a Joker

      I only recently learned about them, but so far I'm really enjoying this knife, and I will say, it came exceptionally sharp out of the box.

    Joker makes some low cost, high value knives. Nicely built too. I've been looking at the Nomad 6.5. The Montanero is a sweet blade too.

      The more I've used the 6.5 the more I've grown to like it. It was surprisingly good at food prep. I expected that the thickness of the stock would make it awkward like with the BK2 (the thickness kinda cracks the food open instead of slicing it) but the 6.5 worked fantastic for chicken, potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, apples, etc. I don't think you'd want to do much fileting with it, but it did better than I expected.

    GOOD “BULL-NOSED/ SPADE-NOSED” TREKKING KNIFE… GREAT EDGE, WITH THAT 440-C (N-690) IF QUITE NOT “TANK” ABUSE TOUGH, AT THAT ~58-59 HRC HARDNESS: VERY GOOD EDGE HOLDER, & FAIRLY EASY TO FIELD SHARPEN TOO

    im a Becker addict and admitting it hasnt helped me on the road to recovery. The BK10 or BK7 would fill that hole in your life that youre trying to fill with that Joker. the BK16 is my go to, i have one that lives in my car, and a few others for other places. If you ever get a chance to handle the BK9, youll be hooked! just get one anyway. the BK62 Kephart is a thing of beauty as well. i could go on and on...
    Those Joker knives look like some good stuff, im trying not to though..must...resist...the urge...

      The BK7 has been on my list for years but I was never sold on that thumb ramp or the swedged clip point. Also, I'm pretty sure it's 1095 carbon steel. None of those things are inherently bad, but not quite what I was looking for. Specifically, I was looking for something in the size range of the BK7, but less tactical and more bushcraft oriented. Also, I really wanted something in stainless.
      That said, I am also a big fan of the Beckers and somewhere down the road I want to get that Kephart.
      As far as Jokers, I recently learned about them and, as you say, they put out some pretty good stuff. This Nomad 6.5 has been great so far. I'm about to take a trip through Yellowstone NP. I'm looking forward to doing some camp work with it and seeing how it does (I can't imagine it letting me down). Thanks for commenting, and by all means, go on and on, who doesn't like talking knives? lol

    I love Chicago knife works. They have the best prices by far but you do need to check the model numbers because they’ll often have the wrong picture or no picture at all.

      You're right. They didn't have pictures for this knife but what I received was exactly as described and I'm happy with it!

    Hello, would you say that this knife has a too blunt tip to be valid for self-defense?

    • @GrahamOutdoorSkills
      @GrahamOutdoorSkills  11 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely. It's not a self-defense knife. Of course you can slash and slice with any blade, but this is not a stabber. The tip is very bull-nosed and there's no swedge, so it's very thick. Good for prying, not great for penetration.
      Of the knifes shown here, the SOG is really about the only one that I'd consider for tactical/defense.

      I'm in the U.S. and at the time I posted the video the only distributor I could find in the USA was Chicago Knife Works, and the price was in the $120-$140 range depending on options.

    Which do you prefer the normal or the big nomad?

    • @GrahamOutdoorSkills

      I haven't got experience with the the regular nomad, but in dimension it seems quite similar to the Becker BK2, and I find that knife too short for as thick of a stock as it is.
      I really like the length of this Nomad 6.5. It's still a little a tad thicker than I like for some food prep tasks (but I've been surprised at how well it's worked for most things.) It does great for wood prep tasks like batoning/feathering. I guess it depends on what you're wanting to do with your knife, but for what this knife is, I am really enjoying it! I think it's a great length for an all-around blade.

    That SOG is junk. The BK2 sheath is absolute garbage. The BK16 is decent but needs aftermarket upgrades
    The joker Nomad 6.5 blows them all outta the water for the money. I have 6 joker knives. They are all incredible for the money. The sheaths are also really nice

      @GrahamOutdoorSkills  Год назад +2

      I don't know about the SOG being junk, but I do agree that the Joker is a pretty sweet value for the money. I've put it to quite a bit of use at this point and it's been everything I hoped. I did manage to roll the edge (accidentally hit it into gravel) but it came out relatively easily with a little work on a sharpening stone. I've been checking out videos on some of Joker's other knives and there are a few I'm really interested in. Thanks for checking out my video and sharing your thoughts!

    A drop-clip-point?😅

    • @GrahamOutdoorSkills
      @GrahamOutdoorSkills  Год назад

      Yeah it's clip point-ish, but not really like you'd see on a bowie or like my SOG, lol.
      I was having a brain-fart, I was trying to say it's like a shallow clip point, but words are hard sometimes I guess.

    Buy a tripod before anymore knives. Your filming will benefit.

    • @GrahamOutdoorSkills
      @GrahamOutdoorSkills  Год назад +2

      Valid. Funny story, I actually tried filming this on a gopro, but the camera wouldn't record past a couple of minutes so I switched to my phone. 😂
      I do have a DSLR with a nice tripod that I do photography with, but I've done very little videography and I probably need a better mic if I try to go that route.
      Overall, I'm not sure how much I intend to make RUclips vids, but since there were frustratingly few RUclips videos about this specific knife I thought I'd put out a little content for others interested in it.
