13:19 Someone whispering "hey" when I walk into a dark area alone is something I imagine all the time. I like the simple things that are scary. Like in Rule of Rose when there's one time you open a door and there's a man already standing there.
Auditory hypnogogic hallucination are a real phenomenon. When you have one, you’ll know. I’ve had them happen a few times through out my life, usually when waking up or falling asleep and it’s some of the creepiest shit you’ll ever experience.

Props for showing each game's title screen before talking about them. They all seemed to have a lot of atmosphere before you even press the "New Game" button, so letting that build a little before showing gameplay helped a lot I think.
Sorry, we’re closed looks dope. I love the art style. I’d like to see more games with this Hirohiko Araki meets jetset radio look to their characters. Also great work as always. It’s a good day when DC drops a video
Man, with all the recent uploads between you, Grimbeard, Thorhighheels, and Majuular- this has been a cozy-ass week. Work has been pretty brutal lately and I don’t get a whole lot of time to do much else, so I really end up looking forward to these videos. Thanks for doing what you do!
Seems the industry is going full circle, back to artists making new, more original stuff. CEOs will never understand the consumers don't want copies of the same product they are already consuming. You can't steal players from Fortnite making a clone of Fortnite. Making videogames is an art form, you can't mass produce art and a true artist gives to the consumer what the consumer didn't even know wanted.
This is why everytime i see someone say "the video game industry needs another crash" it just makes no sense... Triple-A is just a part of it. Indie Gaming didn't rise up from nowhere, it was simply building up slowly while the Big Publishers got all of the attention. ...and once the "gamer fatigue" finally settled, with Big Publishers going creatively bankrupt, people simply went somewhere else for their entertainment.
We Harvest Shadows reminds me of how I often play The Forest: a calming, relaxing, immersive little homesteading game where I 'occasionally' have my heart lurch from my throat as a cannibal and/or mutant attacks me! :3
@acomingextinction it's super cozy hahah! I beat the game solo and then co-op with my best friend, so now if I mostly play solo on a completed world and just vibe
Sorry, We're Closed has an amazing art style that I'm digging, but the fighting part looks like it might not jell well with me ; w ; The Third Shift, however, sounds right up my alley and omg that live action bit was so good ahaha
I had the same thought, but then played the demo. While combat does take some getting used to, it’s not unforgiving. My only gripe is that for some reason I couldn’t run. If you’re interested, the demo is still up on Steam. And it ran fine on my potato of a computer.
Remember how your first video was a preview for Lunacid? It would so rule if that got a full review someday. Its the inspiration for the channel name after all.
Sorry, We're Closed reminds me a lot like Killer7. The gameplay mechanic is very similar too. From its invisible enemies, and where you switch to third person to first person, whenever you aim your gun. Can't wait for it to get a release. Also Divine Frequency as well. Both of them are on my wishlists.
A horror flight shooter with Omega Boost-esque controls? Hell yeah! This game also reminds me of Sinistar Unleashed, another game from my childhood that featured organic/monster-like enemies.
I mean it's really no wonder that Divine Frequency feels like DOOM as it literally started off as a DOOM 2 mod. There have been probably a half-dozen incarnations of it over the years, all following the same general style and story, but with pretty significant changes to the level design. The upcomign Steam version also still uses the GZDOOM engine, as do many of the other modern "Boomer Shooters" that have popped up over the past few years (such as Selaco).
I hadn't heard of any of these except for Lorn's Lure and Sorry, We're Closed; some good finds! Might also be worth keeping an eye on Hibernaculum, Labyrinth of the Demon King, Exit Veil, and They Speak From the Abyss.
Instantly fallen in love with this video and the game concepts. I agree that I didn't think a Gameboy-style horror game would be something I want, but damn it looks interesting. The museum reminds me of a real life museum in France that has gory anatomy preserved and put in positions. Including one that looks like the knight and the horse's flesh merged into one creature. The original creator got burned for his disturbing art I believe.
Appreciate the variety of different game styles you chose for this vid, there's really something here for everyone. Lorn's Lure looks really neat, I'll definitely be trying that one out.
Blame! Is so damn good. I never really got deep into berserk like a lot of my friends but last exile and Blame! had me hooked. Some of my first anime explorations along with Evangelion, cowboy bebop Samueai Champloo and whatever else Cartoon Network threw on Kate at night when they thought no one was watching. I remember before that the oblongs/tick and Aeon Flux shared a time slot so it was 3 weeks before I ever saw a ‘next episode’ I want to say battle angel and pirates of dark water shared a slot on the other day at the same spot maybe Wednesday on YTV in Nova Scotia Ca where I lived from 3-12 years old then never went back.
The "We Harvest Shadows" dev is looking for funding; Steam news explains more, he's very close to the community and very communicative! :-D I do hope so much he can finish his vision, this game is already art
I think that if you want to pay homage to Persona you need to have a strong art style, and Sorry We're Closed seems to have that at least... But it also has a couple of interesting game play features too.
Those bodies displayed like that in The Third Shift are based on a real travelling exhibition of preserved human bodies called Body Worlds. Highly recommended if you can ever see it.
Played the Divine Frequency demo and loved it. The weapon mechanics are deep enough to make the combat interesting. The world is built up so well that I enjoyed reading every note & codex entry. Thanks for the recommendation.
Two games I certainly can't wait for are Zero Protocol and Endoparasitic 2. ZP has this weird kind of atmosphere I just can't describe (plus I really like its art style) and Endoparasitic 2... Pretty much explains itself. First one was great and 2 is shaping up to also be great if not better.
I can't recall if you covered this in an earlier video or if that was Grimbeard or someone else entirely but I would love to see you cover Echoes of the Living. Very gorgeous looking Resident Evil style game with a chunky several hour demo and two playable characters; it does have some issues but thankfully the two team devs delayed the game to just keep polishing it and keep adding more and more. I'm pretty impressed with what I've seen so far. Instead of going the VHS filter route or PS1 look they have full 3D models with cinematic cameras like Tormented Souls. Has a lot of similarity with Resident Evil 2+3 but with the twist that it's a European city and it sounds like the monster source is not science based.
Lmao third shift reminds when I used to work at a museum that does have a permanent exhibit of human cadavers. I never liked cleaning the glass cases during closing time.
Speaking of BLAME-like megastructures, I'm a big fan of Bleak Faith: Forsaken, a super janky indie soulslike but with some real neat world design. You can walk around for an hour getting increasingly worried you'll never find your way back again if you slip up, then turn a corner and realize you're back at the area entrance and this vast labyrinth you just got through were hidden behind some random cargo container all along.
You're one of my favorite youtubers, I feel like you have a really eloquent way of talking about games that it's pretty unique This kinda video works super well, I think you sell the idea of a game more than most people just saying it's awesome or super scary. OMEGA BOOST MENTIONED!!! I swear I thought I was the only one making the comparison when I played the Death in Abyss demo, I'm so glad someone else gets it! Really hyped for all of these, several of which I'd heard nothing about before seeing this vid!
I'm looking forward to Cascha Games' "Weirdo", it's the next in their "Parallel" series of horror visual novels with manga-style B&W artwork heavily inspired by Junji Ito. I just hope they can do a slightly better job with the English localisation, it's the only thing that let down their previous game "Concealed"... they're a small Chinese indie studio so the translation is likely to be a bit rough unfortunately.
Keep up the good work. I suppose the highest compliment I could give in this weird digital-app world is: "I would gladly watch an add to see your videos." Again, keep up the good work.
