Honestly the biggest difference between the states is the weather and geography. The states aren’t really even as culturally different as they used to be because there’s so much mixing happening now between one state and the other with many Californians moving to Texas for example. There are some cultural differences between the states but it’s not as great as you would think.
Walmart sells groceries and beer, and over the counter meds. Also it has a pharmacy. So I don't know where you shop but the grocery stores I've been in have beer and over the counter meds.

Also, you only tip at a sit down restaurant where the waiter is managing the refilling of your drinks. Lots of other places like coffee shops have a tip jar, thats totally optional as it only credit card machine that ask you how much you want to tip at those places, just proundly hit no tip. They get paid. Waiters in sit down places get paid less and yes they are in for tip money and most do quite well as many many many people tip way over 15% by choice.

One big difference is that if an American was moving to the UK they would know every detail about, costs, transportation, etc. Your lucky you live here and use everything we do and you don't have to pay our tax. I live on a farm in Indiana and it doesn't cost me 1000 to live for a month. I have lived in NJ and it is very expensive.

As someone that worked for tips for 25 years, if the service sucks, leave nothing, they will be inspired to find other work. If the service is adequate, leave 15%, if it's great leave 20%. The more expensive the meal, the more they get. For all you know the person lives with the parents or a spouse that pay all their living expenses. There is always OnlyFans after all.

Most restaurants you dont have to pay tip. Mostly only in nicer restaurants. Depends the state, you might want to. I live in CA and they get paid minimum wage plus tips.

Isn't the VAT in England between 20%-25% which means you're actually paying more in taxes per item there, than you are here. Plus most states don't tax for food, unless it's prepared of sorts.
