The Katana is the gift that keeps on giving. It came out like 7 or 8 years ago (4 for the Mk2s) and people are still discovering new tips and tricks. Man, that is Geeky!
Hallelujah! After searching for videos on this subject for two days and kind of finding what I wanted but not quite; I circled back to your channel and the fog cleared. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this fairly complex concept (Man that’s geeky!) in a way that encourages people to try. Many of the videos out there seem to be so specific, that if you’re not using exactly the same rig, computer and DAW you still end up guessing. Keep doing what you do!
OMG! So I’m not the most tech-savvy person. A long time ago, like years ago , I was messing around with the inputs on GarageBand and recorded the DI by accident. I thought at the time that it was a bad thing. Little did I know that it was the best thing! Recording an affected and a separate dry track is awesome. There have been so many times I recorded something that I loved, but didn’t like the sound. This is great! Also useful for amp sims. Instead of using GarageBand amps and trying to dial in unaffected sound. THANK YOU.
Happy Holidays Guitar Geek, Thanks so much for putting up this video. I've been wanting to do this with my Katana and couldn't find out how to do it until now. Super valuable ! I was doing a DI before and using my plug ins, but now I can reamp back to my Katana for even better tones.
about 35 years ago, (showing age) I did a recording session at quite a well known Studio in London, the Engineer made me do the songs with a totally clean dry amp, which came as a shock as I normally played through a Marshall 100 Superbass with a metal zone on the front, cranked to brain damage levels, it was not fun to do the recording, but he did exactly what you are saying in an analogue way and got a great tone, by reamping post.
That is really cool, and as a new Katana Artist owner, potentially really useful. I didn't realize that you could output to the Katana over USB, I assumed that you would have to send it back over the analog input. Man, that's geeky!
Mac setting (channel 1 & 2 wet signal and 3 & 4 dry) also work on Linux combined with Ardour by the way. The Katana "drivers" are standard present in modern Linux Kernels (as of version 5.16 if I remeber it correctly). FXFloorBoard is "useable" on Linux, just takes a time to load, press wait when it's complaining ... can take a few minutes ...
Holy moly, I need to record some stuff tomorrow evening and turns out we need dry AND wet signals sent for mixing/mastering later. Looked up that I wanted to use the katana like a VST and read on reddit that this is called re-amping. Got confused by the diagram alone and BOOM found this video. Thank you 1000 times and then some.
All those diagrams and plugins and inputs, man, that's geeky! On a serious note though, vids like this just go to show how little of my Katana I've actually used!
Considering getting back in to trying to learn guitar and getting a Katana for that reason; and since I'm a bit of a geek in general myself, I already knew what reamping was in theory. So I was wondering if it was possible to reamp with just a katana and how simple/complex it would be. Well, consider my curiosity satisfied! And despite never having ever recorded a single thing in my life, your explanation makes me feel confident I'll be able to do it myself. Thanks a bunch, excellent and inspiring content! Man, that is Geeky!
Man that's geeky! I'm new to recording with the Katana Amp, There is so many things you can do with this amp and you have let me know about re-amping. Thanks great video, easy to follow.
That was extremely useful! Finally I understood why there is this distinction between "primary" and "secondary" in my Katana USB channels and what purpose they serve. BTW, based on your videos, I just upgraded to a 100W Katana from my Katana Air, which is a great practice amp, but lacks the effect loop I badly needed.
Awsome video hooking up my first interface focusrite 8i6 with my katana until i can afford to get sgear. Thanks a bunch for making this video man thats geeky!
Oh man that was geeky! Fantastic video! You explain things so well. One question, maybe video idea? What are the differences between a standalone DI box, like a FocusRite and going DI through a Katana? Is there benefits/cons to either one?
Sometimes learning an ecosystem in this case the katana can be like learning a new language. Thanks for being the katana Rosetta stone, mahn thas geekay 😅 cheers
Great video. Cheers. May have missed it and it may be obvious to some, but presume for the second recording you have to reposition the usb cable to the earlier (in the cycle) position on the bank of the Katana?
Funny what just happened.. normally I wouldn’t be able to playback audio/backing tracks through my katana speaker via the usb, therefore listened through my headphones. While following this video I decided to set the master output in my daw to katana secondary and see what happens. I managed to have the backing track audio and the live guitar sound output from the katana internal speaker (using the mkII head). 🤔 I’m only a newbie so if ppl are shaking there heads right now at my new discovery understand.
Man that’s geeky! It’s also so useful you can’t imagine… even more so since I suspect it will also apply to my GX-100. I have two simple questions if you don’t mind. 1. The inputs and outputs being discussed here are virtual right? 2. I usually find the USB input signal to be low in volume, is it ok to apply some kind of gain plugin on it, or will that distort the signal. Subscribed.
Man, that's geeky! That is geeky level 1000. However, I've just realized a Marshall SV20H is behind you. Could you make a review about that as well, please?
Hey, thanks for the great video, however, I have been banging my head on the keyboard over one thing.... I am a Mac/Cubase 12 user, I can get the DI track back from the amp alongside the fx'ed track no issues, but when I try to later route the new DI track back to the Katana as shown in your Logic example, I cannot get it to work. I have a Scarlett 2i2 set up along with the Katana as an aggregate sound device in the Mac, so I can get around Cubase's stiff "one usb only" limitation, which works well under all other circumstances. I was excited to see this video could save me the cost of a re-amp box... as I have a million plugins already, I can live without it... but now you've dangled this carrot, I have to see it work! Anyone else found a way in Cubase 12 Pro???... I have the MkII 100 Combo. Thanks again!
The dry signal (DI) out of the katana ( secondary, 3, 4) is very weak as compared to the wet signal. There is no independent "gain" knob in KATANA to boost just the clean signal. Hence the guitar pick-up volume knob, by default, is the only "gain" knob available to the guitarist to control the dry signal level. This becomes more problematic when the guitar pick-up volume knob is on the lower side ( controlling the tone of the guitar pickup with the volume knob). The dry signal becomes very low, hence unusable. Please let me know if i'm mistaken
The Katana is the gift that keeps on giving. It came out like 7 or 8 years ago (4 for the Mk2s) and people are still discovering new tips and tricks. Man, that is Geeky!
Somebody, Please tell me, is this worked for mk1?
The Geek is strong in this one! Excellent reamp tutorial.

Man... You consistently do a great job explaining complex tech. Thanks.
You are welcome Ray!
That's the most useful video I ever seen in my life. Thank you for the christmas gift.
Glad it was helpful!

Man, that’s geeky, but very helpful. Thanks! I really enjoy your vids.
Good info! Knew I could record both wet and DI, but did not know the signal could be sent back to the Katana to revamp! Man, that’s geeky! Thank you!
I finally understood that Block Diagram in the Katana's user manual. Man, that's geeky!

Man -that's geeky! This is great! Saved me from buying extra kit and justified (again) me buying my superb Katana. Thanks man!
It is wonderful that no extra gear is needed
All those diagrams and plugins and inputs, man, that's geeky! On a serious note though, vids like this just go to show how little of my Katana I've actually used!
Man, that's geeky! Old tube amp guy with a new Katana. Looking forward to trying this out. Thanks for posting.
"Man, that's geeky!" Seriously, my mind is blown as I never even considered that kind of functionality!
Considering getting back in to trying to learn guitar and getting a Katana for that reason; and since I'm a bit of a geek in general myself, I already knew what reamping was in theory.

Learned something very useful, thank you. I didn’t know what reamping was.
Indeed useful. Thanks. Opens a creative door. Man that is geeky.

Just got a new katana artist mk11 and i need help! So glad i found your channel. Man that's geeky
Awsome video hooking up my first interface focusrite 8i6 with my katana until i can afford to get sgear. Thanks a bunch for making this video man thats geeky!
Just bought one. THANK YOU for this... really well explained.
Man, that's geeky too... ha...
Man, that's geeky! Great tutorial. Saved me hours of searching!

Man, you're living up to your RUclips name...
I love watching your videos, man that's geeky.
Man, that's geeky! Thanks a lot, this is actually BRILLIANT!!!!
Might have to "repurchase" a Katana now. Maybe I'll go for the Artist this time. I always stay to the end but, man, that was geeky. Lol Thanks!
Man, that's geeky! don't know what else to say but thanks for sharing what you've learned, it helps alot!

High quality content right here! Very cool to know this.
I didn't know, how to include the phrase 'man, that's geeky', but You made a great video.
Man, that’s geeky! Nice info. I won’t use it but learned what reamping is
Had I paid attention/read the manual I’d avoided getting an interface. man that’s geeky :)
I have an MK II head. I learned something. Man that's geeky..
Yeah, that was brilliant. I had no idea. Thanks so much!
Man that's geeky... And informative! Thanks Andy
That is some high quality geekery there sir!
Oh man that was geeky! Fantastic video! You explain things so well. One question, maybe video idea? What are the differences between a standalone DI box, like a FocusRite and going DI through a Katana? Is there benefits/cons to either one?

Great info to know, thanks!
Sometimes learning an ecosystem in this case the katana can be like learning a new language. Thanks for being the katana Rosetta stone, mahn thas geekay 😅 cheers
Man, that's Geeky! So cool.
Great video, watched some other vids before and got lost...this made perfect sense. Thanks Andy! Man that's geeky 😁
Maaaannnn.... I just love the Katana. I really gotta start using mine more. Its been collecting dust for a bit now. I know...horrible.

Great explanation. THX!!
Wow, great tutorial! Thanks!
Man, that's geeky, but really useful information :)
Very Nice!
Worth mentioning, but I did this on a Artist MK1 and it worked fine using Presonus Studio One.
Thanks for sharing this video. ☕ More videos.
Great video!!!! Man….That’s geeky
Great video!
Man that’s geeky! Thanks
Man! That's GEEKY!
I'm guessing this doesn't work if you are using the combo amp as just a powered speaker?
You would need to use it as I do in the video
Great video. Cheers. May have missed it and it may be obvious to some, but presume for the second recording you have to reposition the usb cable to the earlier (in the cycle) position on the bank of the Katana?

Brilliantl;y explained for us non geeks

Awesome info, i enyoyed this video, thank you. But i have a Katana mk2 50. How can i record like this?
Man, that's geeky! That is geeky level 1000. However, I've just realized a Marshall SV20H is behind you. Could you make a review about that as well, please?
How can I use VST plugins with it? Like bias fx, amplitude etc as well as use an expression pedal.
Man, that's geeky.
This totally increases the value of the Katana.
This is a mind-blowing discovery.
Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏽🙂
Haha for real
The dry signal (DI) out of the katana ( secondary, 3, 4) is very weak as compared to the wet signal. There is no independent "gain" knob in KATANA to boost just the clean signal. Hence the guitar pick-up volume knob, by default, is the only "gain" knob available to the guitarist to control the dry signal level. This becomes more problematic when the guitar pick-up volume knob is on the lower side ( controlling the tone of the guitar pickup with the volume knob). The dry signal becomes very low, hence unusable. Please let me know if i'm mistaken
