We Pentecostals too practices holy silence. When the Holy presence and the glory of God is descending/manifesting, peoples begins to be silent, in a holy hush, deep sighings, groanings, others fall into a deep trance, receive a revelation from the still small voice of God, others became quiet and unable to talk, etc. When the power of God is moving and gifts of the spirit is in demonstration and operation, emotions bursting forth and out, rolling and shaking on the floor, slain and fall under the power, spoke in tongues loudly, laughing and dancing in the Spirit.

I love this. I hear Ross speaking from his experience of the fire of God, which was experienced for its own sake as a Pentecostal, and which he found a use for among Friends. Keep the hearth fires tended, Ross. Rest well. We need your experience of fire among us.

Seems an understandable switch. Both affirm the reality of encountering and hearing God. One's just quiet and the other one is is loud. I would add that there are many Pentecostal Churches that do marvelous work among the poor.

I enjoyed this video very much. I would call that "internal reservoir" to which Ross refers the Inner Light.

I enjoyed this video very much and have experienced the same type of experience in my own meeting. After stress and burnout I realised that I needed to prune back on the activities I was doing and invest more time in my own spiritual practice. Currently I feel that I have a more healthy balance between spiritual refreshment and activism. I don't think this necessarily a Quaker thing, my experiences with different churches over the years has been similar, and possible of any organised group, where if your not careful, you can take on too much. Sadly people in that community will let you do this as they are very focused on getting things done. Hope your well rested now and thanks for the video.

Hey Quakers, what do you think of this message?
Ross says that the best way to organize and energize the Religious Society of Friends is by encouraging people to plug in to their internal reservoir of focused spiritual energy.

....first i feel the question arise... "what is our purpose?" Is our purpose the... 'selection and improvement of denominational organizations and worship styles? If so, then the way this video is presented and edited is pleasant and useful. In fact George Fox's beginnings were 'reforming the Church of England's denominational way of being, after "reading the Scriptures in English, and "living the Way of Life" for a while.
However, This 'denominational selection and improvement' is very secondary to my personal 'purpose'.
I taste a grave in front of me. A see a truly hurting and ruined human family, that will not just naturally 'refresh' somehow. I feel real conflicts raging for the attainment of true Life and true Power for the human family. I desire for the human family to be fresh and free and excellently guided in all situations.
The 'Sent Spirit' of the extreme 'Highest Spirit' i fervently desire to be my sole personal 'spirit-guide' in all things. That is my #1 desire and purpose. I was raised amidst Quaker meetings and FGC gatherings.
It has become obvious to me that Yeshua-Christ is 'the visitor' who sends the 'best Spirit Guide'. The 'revving up the motor in neutral' comment was a 'best moment' in this video for me. The Quaker way 'applies' many things that are not applied in the 'standard Pentecostal gathering' (if there is such a thing)
The application of "No occasion for war"... the application of 'silent waiting on God" and the application of 'Messages coming from all the peoples' (1 Corinthians 14:25-27) The going out and addressing 'that of God in all peoples', The application of the essence of George Fox's Book of Miracles....
The application of all these things seem to be a valuable alternative to 'revving engines' in Pentecostal church on a sunday morning. (an atmosphere that i am also familiar with)
I offer this 'video tour' of a movement that is impressive... in that it is not a 'revving of engines' but a 'going out and doing', just as George Fox and Margaret Fell did.
(..which got them LOCKED UP... to motivate the work of prison reform!
more action, less 'idle revving'... )

At 0:45 Ross explains the effect of his experience in the Penecostal church, at 1:48 he shares what he found in Quakerism, and at 2:50 there's a breaking point...
Watch an FJ exclusive video: Ross Hennesy, convinced Quaker and author in the January issue, talks about the true source of effective action. Share with other convinced Friends!

From what Friend Ross indicates, it would appear that he is typical of many, perhaps most, Quakers: They work hard, trying to change the world, and the people in it, but they spend no time at all trying to change themselves. Peace is their creed, and they fervently believe in it, but they, themselves, are not spiritually peaceful people, a fact they seem blissfully unaware of. They are social/peace activists who attend Friends meetings, seeking not to find peace, but to interact with other like-minded activists.

Quakers "are not spiritually peaceful people"? I disagree.
