In 2017, TVNZ came to film Miriam and Peter in their wilderness camp.
Miriam Lancewood lived with her husband Peter for seven years in the wilderness of New Zealand. They left civilisation in 2010 and walked into the mountains with not much more than a backpack. They lived without technology, not even a clock. They roamed around like nomads, slept in a tent, cooked on a fire and Miriam learned to hunt with bow and arrow. Like our ancestors, they lived from hunting and gathering. Their observations and experiences are unique in this technological world.
Since Miriam met Peter in 2006, they have been nomadic and lived and traveled in many different countries.
Miriam's memoir 'Woman in the Wilderness', became an international Bestseller, translated into 5 languages. Dutch, German, French, Portuguese, and Chinese.
In 2020 the sequel 'Wild at heart' came out and won an important prize in New Zealand.
And in 2023 she co-edited a new publication called 'Wilder Journeys'.

They contribute nothing at all to society. They use the things YOUR taxpayers’ money pays for - roads to get where they’re going; hospitals when Peter fell sick in Australia. They’re happy to run down society while plucking what they like from it - food they can’t find themselves, the internet, aircraft to fly between continents. Give me the average person paying taxes, looking after their family and mowing the neighbour’s yard when they’re unwell.

Watching this in lockdown due to COVID19. Peter clearly says at 03:15 about how useful these skills are in a pandemic. I met Miriam at WOMAD NZ a couple of weeks ago, what an amazing energy she has. Hard to imagine these two locked down.

I read the book in English and I so much enjoyed it! Once I started I could not stop reading!
It is so well written. Simple and beautiful. Their life is one big exciting adventure!!!
Amazing that there are already so many translations (but I am not surprised that this will be an international best-seller!)

@Nellie Rutten the message from me was not serious either, but more to show that when you are alone in nature you are less likely to get a virus.I know I shouldn't go with the madness and do certainly not. I am a down to earth Dutchman, so that will be fine, but thank you for the warning and good intentions.

Everybody is interested in such an extraordinary life! We need to move away from those toxic cities and heal ourselves in the wild - before we all go insane!!! Miriam is my great example!

Covid affected me not much as I was living in the Netherlands in a forest. I only realised there was a pandemic when I would go to town for groceries. So Miriam predicted well.

Her extremly healthy looking body and that fire in her eyes show us, that humans are made to live like her.
Things like unnatural food, looking in screens, missing individual selfresponcability, usless materialistic things, fake relationships ect. make us sick.
the more rich and modern the society, the more depressive the people.

Maybe for the chronic dandruff it doesn't work. Had to give it a go though.

We have a few doctor friends. They have been worried for ages about a serious pandemic and the lack of organizational plans in place. Almost all medics we talked to, said "pandemic", as their main worry. So it's not so surprising as it sounds, that Peter said this in 2017.
