As a Sys Admin for over 20 years, I've worked for many corporations big and small.
You have to be able to sell yourself...
One of the first questions I often get is, "Tell me about yourself".
Memorize a couple of paragraphs regarding your career, where you've been, your titles, experiences and where you want to end up professionally.
One of my answers has been, I was hired at Lockheed Martin to manage their Desktop Support.
While I was there, I worked along active duty and retired military personnel.
There's are two things you must have... Attitude and experience.
During many interviews, I've said, "Give me the hardest, dirtiest job that no one else wants to do, give it to me and I'll do it".
You'll see the hiring agent light up and smile. Try it.
    Good luck everyone.

Going to be honest I have no degree I started in IT from the lowest of the low I’ve only worked service desk positions right now I’m a full time specialist for a IT service desk and I’ve decided to try something new I applied to a system admin position and actually have an interview. Im surprised I even got one and now I’m kinda freaking out on how I can match my skills to what a system admin does.

This was helpful, thank you! I'm only looking at pretty low-end jobs atm but I'm hopeful about what I could potentially be doing in future. I find that being smiley and positive helps, along with making sure you *actually* answer the interviewer's questions. You're so right about being careful not to trail off on a big speech! (Guilty...) Thanks again.

Ill always advice to do something you’re passionate about over going into a field people tell you will make you alot of money. What will make you most money is what you’re good at. But it took me around 3 months to grt good at HD
