Thanks Rich. None of that is ever done on purpose. I mean I go on rock hunts on purpose, but all the calming sounds just happen. The drone isn't quite as silent as in my videos. It's really not loud at all, but does make a buzzing sound when it's close. Of course there is no microphone for that reason, so I always record a minute of waves to play over it. So I guess that part takes a little more planning.
My daughter and I have frequently met others coming off the beach, saying they were ‘skunked’, and have then gone out to pick and found some nice stones! I think other people have different perspectives, and together with wave action, the beach is always turning over. Plus, I’ve gone over areas I’ve already checked, and been lucky.🤷🏻♀️😊

Don't let the ones I release bother you. Think of it as catch and release. I have a few books that I own listed in my Amazon storefront in the description of this video. They will help you identify some really common rocks. But don't expect them to help you identify everything. There's a huge variety of rocks that have been deposited in Michigan by glaciers. Another thing I do to identify rocks is post them on some Facebook pages. One of my go-to groups is "Great Lakes Rocks & Minerals". Glad the Leland Blues and the Good Petoskey Stones started to pop up for you. Great drone footage and gorgeous water on Lake Michigan....thanks for making that long trip just for us.
Hello MR, It is great fun watching you find such nice Petoskey stones. I just love them. Beautiful views of the lake, so blue! Thanks so much for sharing and for the juggling, what a talent!
The drone shot was cool. Lots of Petoskey stones. Those Leland Blues are cool. No fish. They must not know your is a rock not a fishing show. Great finds again. Was fun to watch. Great video

Your dry sense Of humor makes us laugh out loud when we are watching. Keep up the good work and looking forward to being a part of your followers. God Bless you and yours, Debi Younce
Hi Carol. Thanks for saying all that nice stuff about my videos. I had trouble finding the beach the first time I was here, but I think I found it on Google Maps for you. I'm pretty sure that I parked on North Street. The beach access only has room for about two cars. It's a shady little spot that you really have to look for to see. North Beach isn't very long and I found the good stuff by getting past that break wall at the end of it. I was told that it's hard to get around that if the water is rough. I had to wade around it, but it was no problem with waders and calm water. Van's Beach is on the other side of the river and is worth going to also. The end of that beach was blocked by high water and fallen trees and I didn't get around it on the rough day I was there. Here's a link to Google Maps where I think North Beach is: goo.gl/maps/aacd14VexAzQdew9A
Hello I'm Kimpd from Korea. Thank you for watching the beautiful little sea rock. I love the sound of the water. I love the different compositions. I've had a healing time. I'll be back.
You found quite a few good ones. You had a blue rock day. I loved the cute little buildings in the beginning. This one had great, peaceful water sounds. I really like the Leland Blue and slag rocks. They are such an unusual color for a rock. Great juggling. I can only do 2. Lol.
That part of Leland is called "Fish Town". They have some little food shops there in the summer. I used to juggle in the hall between classes when I was teaching. Sometimes a kid would come by and say "I can juggle two" or "I can juggle too". I could never tell which. It's easier in print. Were you doing the two in one hand? To actually be considered juggling you need to have more objects than the hands juggling them.
@@sparband Nah, you could learn. Most people who say that they can juggle two do it the hard way. I taught lots of kids to juggle over the years and almost none of them ever learned to juggle a shower pattern, which is where the balls go around in a circle. The cascade pattern is much easier. That's where every ball is lobbed up in the air to the other hand. Nothing is passed straight across the bottom, like you're likely doing. Now I feel the need to make a "how to juggle" video.
The Leland blue is beautiful. Great petoskey stones you found. And cool to see where they come from. The color of the lake water is beautiful! I'm going to watch your other Leland blue video again. Really like that stuff. Great job juggling the blue!😄
OMG, Loved the juggling, I've heard that you could do that pretty good and that you are sometimes in parades in Alpena. Thanks for the juggling, Rob! Another great video.
Are you from Alpena, or are you just stalking me? How did you hear that? I used to have a little juggling club at the school I worked at. Then my son and I started unicycling there in the evenings. We did the Fourth of July parade for quite a few years. One year, I walked the whole parade route backwards because we had a four person club passing pattern going. I was a little tired at the end, but the next couple days my calves hurt a lot. Apparently walking backwards uses different muscles than walking forward. Here's the unicycle group: ruclips.net/video/hKkKVEou_VE/видео.html
I doubt that it's a beach known for puddingstones, but I can tell you for sure that there were at least two there on Wednesday. I was there on Thursday (5/6).
What an amazingly beautiful place! At 3:23 I wonder what kind of action caused those ridges that encircle some rocks. I really like how they look. 15:25 I really like. The light blue is so pretty! Great juggling. I use to have a boyfriend that was a good juggler.
That stripe on the rock at 3:23 was pegmatite. My son in law gave a nice description of how it's formed in this video: ruclips.net/video/aNSNfuej8-E/видео.html I wonder if I knew your old boyfriend. I used to go to juggling conventions in the eighties and nineties. Bet there's not a lot of people who can say that!
Rob I was up to Leland 3 weeks ago with my family but I didn’t get to hunt for rocks in the area because of prior arrangements I had to be at. Thanks for sharing this place. Now when I return again I will be able to look rocks on the beach! I hope you were able to stop at Sleeping bear dunes while you were up there!😀
@@MichiganRocks Point Betsie lighthouse is a pretty popular place for rock hounders, I have been 2x and every time I have been there the beach is always busy with people looking for rocks.
That blue rock you picked up oh so briefly got my heart going. Living in the high NM desert we have a lot of lava rock and people decorate their lawn less yards with river rock. Not a lot of water though…..
When I leave Michigan, I miss the water. We drove to Colorado a few years ago and I was surprised by how little water there is there. I'm used to seeing water often when I drive somewhere within Michigan. They say that you're never five miles from fresh water here.
I love the sound of the waves during your hunts and the water is usually so clear! I grew up on the East coast in Virginia, I haven’t quite picked up the yen for the desert.
Great trip; springtime is the best time to get the early pick before us Fudgies” descend!😄 I always have better luck finding petoskeys on that side. Drone coverage was breathtaking! Thanks!
Last fall when I went to the other side, it was rough and the water was high, so I couldn't get around the first point. That didn't leave me much space to hunt. Yesterday I must have walked at least a mile.
Can’t remember if I told you I found fluorescent bubblegum pink slag at Leland! Will definitely check out North Beach this year. My Son will be in Augusta at the Barn Theater and I will be coming from New Jersey and the fluorescent mineral area, after fossiling up from Chippokes on the James River! Plan to stay at more State Parks this time!
Really relaxing, just the therapy i needed today. Thanks for taking us along. Was a nice time. Love Leland blues, glad u scored some great ones this time, worth the 3 hr drive I'm sure😁
Wow, I didn’t know anybody else did the same thing I did. After finding so many Petoskey stones in my favorite spot, I started throwing them onto the beach for others to find! I wish when I was living in Michigan, I could’ve found a Leland blue, but I only found the Leland greens. Thanks for your video brings back, fond memories.
I'm glad you liked it. I have a lot of videos like this from beaches all over the state. I leave a lot of rocks behind, which frustrates some people watching, but I just don't have a use for that many.
We talked with the guy in waders, he had a generous amount of white hair and I thought as underdressed whit just a wind breaker on, healthier than me! I told him about the story of being slammed against the break wall during return trips when the weather changed. Just want you to know my x-principal friend and I both watch your Chanel and enjoy your walks. He is all over beaches too. I grew up with teacher parents, a daughter of a science teacher who taught us to appreciate geology. My daughter too is a teacher but we disappointed Dad and both became art teachers. Anyway... the juggling cracked me up and you do a great job. Thanks and stay well.
We have plenty of lakes here in Michigan. They say that you're never more than five miles from fresh water anywhere in the state. When I have traveled out west a couple of times, I have been surprised at how dry everything is. I really miss the water when I leave Michigan.
I have some salg I picked up over that way a while back. Mostly greens and purples. Some I polished up. Turned out nice. Nice juggling. Need to get back over that way and get some blues. Awesome video.
The varying shades of blues greens and greys from the water and sky are beautiful. Especially when the sun comes out. And the driftwood shapes are so interesting. Yes, the rocks are like gems, but it’s the whole adventure. Always seems like you’re on a deserted island. Cool finds. Will you be tumbling them? I always thought slag was a waste product of glass making? I may have missed your explanation. Nice juggling, too! Lol. Thanks for the video.
Very cool rock hunting. A few stones there were a "oh NO... don't drop THAT one"... but the lovely juggling act was a good compensation ;) Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing!
I spied the marina in the next to the last drone shot but couldn’t make out what it was and then the there it was in the last shot and it was pretty evident what it was. I’m glad you had a productive Leland blue hunt. Those were some beauties and the Petoskeys were awesome too. Been to Vans beach but not that one. I’ll have to check that out this summer. That was a great hunt.
Man Rob you are one of the calmest people I know, and your videos have that affect on your viewers but I totally got so happy hearing the inflection in your voice when you found those blues haha! It was only slight, but I heard it brother! Don’t get me wrong, your calmness is a gift mate. I just loved hearing the excitement of you finding something haha! You’re a pro Rob thanks for such a beautiful jaunt along the banks of the lake my friend. 🙏 That blue stuff is amazing. When you say slag where did that come from? I’d love to know the history of how they got there. They’re beautiful. 👍👍👍
I'm probably not nearly as calm as I sound in my videos. I actually think I sound sort of boring. I don't show nearly as much enthusiasm as you do in your videos. I love your enthusiasm. I think I need another person to talk to instead of taking at my camera. Someday maybe I'll drive to your place and hunt with you for the day. The Leland Lake Superior Iron Company used to be in Leland in the 1800's. They smelted Iron and the slag was the waste material that got thrown in the lake. Someone must have had the great idea to clean it up by marketing it for use in jewelry. Now everyone goes and picks up the industrial waste for fun. www.lelandmi.com/about/leland-blue-stones.html
@@MichiganRocks gosh no Rob you are anything but boring man. I promise! But you’re absolutely right, when there’s others around, each persons excitement becomes infectious and in my case I just forget when I’m finding these pretty rocks that I have way too many already at home! Haha! But honestly, each of us have our valuable place with the uniqueness that we share and offer on here. I do believe that your personality and composure shine massively dude. I really do. I may be your biggest fan just sayin 😁 Wow! Okay that’s really cool. So I’ve always thought for some reason the only colour associated with iron is orange. But this has made some sense of something I’ve been wondering. Whenever I find an agate or chalcedony that’s blue or bluish, it’s usually partnered with or come from red basalt, or what I’m guessing is basalt with heaps of iron in it but it never made sense. Now it does! Well, more than it did before haha 🤪 Man I wish you a brilliant week ahead and look forward to catching up soon mate!
Awesome finds! That cracked me up when you said that " people are hollering at the screen". Lol my wife will not watch your videos . She used to do that same thing! Lol

That stripe on the rock at 3:23 was pegmatite. My son in law gave a nice description of how it's formed in this video: ruclips.net/video/aNSNfuej8-E/видео.html
I wonder if I knew your old boyfriend. I used to go to juggling conventions in the eighties and nineties. Bet there's not a lot of people who can say that!
Such a beautiful area! Great finds on this hunt!
It's a really cool little town. The Leland Blue was fun to find because it's not something I normally hunt for.
I was going to comment that it came in purple, also. Personally, I’d keep the small Leland blues also, so I could make myself some earrings.😊
I kept all the Leland Blue I found. I think I did pretty well, but I only have one other hunt to compare to.
Rob I was up to Leland 3 weeks ago with my family but I didn’t get to hunt for rocks in the area because of prior arrangements I had to be at. Thanks for sharing this place. Now when I return again I will be able to look rocks on the beach! I hope you were able to stop at Sleeping bear dunes while you were up there!😀
I drove by the dunes and saw them in the distance from Point Betsie light house. I decided to go to a rock beach instead.
@@MichiganRocks Point Betsie lighthouse is a pretty popular place for rock hounders, I have been 2x and every time I have been there the beach is always busy with people looking for rocks.
Doe o coração ❤️ quando vc joga pedras tão lindas de volta no mar 😍😍😍
Man, your channel is excellent! I started watching about a month ago and it just keeps growing on me
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I just love how clear the water is.
Yep, it's pretty clear. I love the Great Lakes.
Thank you for the rock tumbling intermission!!! Lol enjoy your videos as always !! 🙂
I never thought of that as "rock tumbling", but I like that term for it.
The drone shot above the beach reminds me of, Cast-away. Ha ha ha ha!
The Leland Blue is awesome! Great video!
Have a great weekend!
I didn't bring a soccer ball to keep me company.
@@MichiganRocks Where’s Wilson when you need him ! 😂

Ha ha ha ha!
Classic!!!
Not a bad haul, and thank you for the juggling interlude!! Good video!
Thanks Em!
That first boulder ( 3:23 ) wasso awesome you still want to cut it. I am 3 days behind watching vids so nice to see ya first thing. Havagudun Rob.
That's pegmatite running through that one. You might remember my son it law's explanation of that last year on the Fisherman's Island video.
Nice walk. Boy, some of the boulders were cool...nice yard stones if magical transport existed.
Yeah, too bad about the sad state of magical transport technology.
You're busy! I hadn't heard of the Barn Theater until I just looked it up. Looks like a cool experience for him.
Excellent episode Ron...loved the blue! 😁 ♥️🇨🇦♥️
Not bad for industrial waste.
Really relaxing, just the therapy i needed today. Thanks for taking us along. Was a nice time. Love Leland blues, glad u scored some great ones this time, worth the 3 hr drive I'm sure😁
I hit one other beach and drove seven hours total. Worth every minute in the Jeep.
Seeing you juggle, the wife and I have decided that you are a man of many talents 😊😊
I have a few talents. I can barefoot water ski too. I'm horrible at team sports though.
I've been to Fishtown, but never walked the beach..will have to the next time I'm up there! Thanks for taking us along!
There are beaches on either side of Fishtown, so you have choices.
I was up in Alpena 2 weekends ago, water was rough but had a good time and some good rocks to polish.
Great, I'm glad you found some!
I liked the juggling act 😀! Great video! I’m going to have to make a trip to Michigan!
Start packing! What are you waiting for?
oh the joy of a Natural lake.... out west we are walking on bottom and the snow won't cost, we are 90 % man made lakes . nice classic selection !
We have plenty of lakes here in Michigan. They say that you're never more than five miles from fresh water anywhere in the state. When I have traveled out west a couple of times, I have been surprised at how dry everything is. I really miss the water when I leave Michigan.
Awesome adventure great eye them sure are some beautiful pieces you found plus more knowledge awesome thanks for the adventure
You're welcome, Miles. It was a great day out.
I have some salg I picked up over that way a while back. Mostly greens and purples. Some I polished up. Turned out nice. Nice juggling. Need to get back over that way and get some blues. Awesome video.
I haven't decided if I'm going to tumble mine. I'm still thinking about it.
Several of mine I didn't even attempt it. They were just too rough looking and pitted. So I kept those for example.
I'm not sure if I'll tumble them or not. It's a good possibility. This slag is from an iron smelting industry that was here in the 1800s.
I'll be here next Monday and fisherman's island on Sunday!!! I can't wait for a few Day's off on the beach!!!
Sounds like you're going to have a good time!
Thanks for another great vid. I always find good stones at the north beach.
It's the first time I have been there, but I will probably be back. Too bad it's so far from home for me.
Lake Michigan blue water looked a bit tropical. Your rockin intermission was a nice surprise. Great vid and finds!
It didn't feel tropical. It gets that green color when there's limestone in the area.
Very cool rock hunting.
A few stones there were a "oh NO... don't drop THAT one"... but the lovely juggling act was a good compensation ;)
Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing!
I thought the juggling might make the rocks left behind feel more useful. I did it for the rocks.
@@MichiganRocks lol :)
What a lucky day you had! Leland Blue is very pretty. Nice juggling 😁
Thanks Silke. I really enjoyed my day at the office. Much more relaxing than my classroom was, although I enjoyed that too.
@@MichiganRocks You're still a Teacher, Rob. I learned much from you already and know there is more to come. Thank you!
Going to visit Leland and Empire next week! Thank you for a great video. Can't wait to comb the beach too.
Good luck! I had a ball there.
I have been told by several people that they prefer North Beach over Van's. I had a ball here.
A beautiful green rock!
I enjoyed the Leland blue video. Thank you!
What a great adventure you took us on...😷👋
Glad you liked it!
THANKS FIR sharing my dear...great video
No problem, Alé.
That blue stuff is amazing.
I may be your biggest fan just sayin 😁
Wow! Well, more than it did before haha 🤪
Man I wish you a brilliant week ahead and look forward to catching up soon mate!
Awesome finds! That cracked me up when you said that " people are hollering at the screen". Lol my wife will not watch your videos . She used to do that same thing! Lol
I know. I just don't want to become a rock hoarder. There's only so many rocks I can tumble.
You are too funny. Your juggling is great
My hands were cold. The juggling seems to be getting more comments than the rocks. I might have to do that again in warmer weather.
Congrats on the awesome finds. The Leland Blue is really cool. I watched a video several years ago about someone hunting Leland Blue. quite fascinating stuff. I don't recall "oreo rock" from geology class...?
You probably slept through class that day. Shame on you.
Always enjoy your videos, bonus juggling....didn't expect that. Thanks
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! I'm not sure that fits here, but I couldn't help myself.
@@MichiganRocks I haven't seen Monty Python in a while. Great memories.
@@jimknarr I love Monty Python. Funny stuff.
Lots of great finds!
I was a happy camper.
Vc é abençoado com tanta pedras lindas
Love following on, I wish we had petoskey stone in New Zealand!
They are one of my favorite rocks to find and polish.
Amazing! I had no idea you could juggle that was really impressive! The big boulders at 4:35 were all so varied it was interesting to see. The drone footage was exquisite and incredible. What's the rarest color of Leland blue? 😍🥰😇😍🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That's a good question. I don't know what colors are the most common or the rarest. I'm new at Leland Blue.
@@MichiganRocks I think it's great to try something new. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😍🥰😇
Finding Mylar balloons and the attached ribbon in the wilderness is very upsetting to us too. We often find and remove it best we can.
It's just surprising how many I find.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
I guess if the rock thing fall through, you could join the circus, Haha. Enjoyed it.
LOL, how funny!
At least you didn't call me a clown.
