Great! Good luck with your fish!
Should I feed Otocinclus? Yes! Please leave a like - this really helps my channel and consider to subscribe if haven't already :) Let me know what you use to keep your Otos fat and happy :)
Mine absolutely love a shrimp lolly. I put one in for the shrimp but my Otocinclus chase tem away. Last time I had to take the lolly out as one of the Otos got soooo round I thought he was going to explode 🤣
Blanched Stinging nettles are a nice free food my otos absolutely love
Had my otos for 10 days now ... great to see I'm on track with the first 4 of these foods :)
I have 2 veggie clips that I keep in aquarium 24/7, they have spinach, red or orange peppers and courgette on. I also get a small dish of tank water that I add powdered repashy to and this gets squirted on to the plants with a turkey baster. I’ve noticed that they will also eat frozen cyclops when I feed this to the other fish.
That is awesome! Great diet for your Otos. And thanks for new tips.
Packham pears, skin off. Just a small chunk of one held onto the glass with a spare suction cup and clasp I have.
I also make some food for them. I get some pears , watermelon and cucumber and blend those up together and then add some spirulina powder to it until I have a dough like mixture. I chop it up into little half centimetre sized cubes and keep it in the freezer. Now and then I put one into the tank on a little shelf I have near where their pear bits go. It slowly dissolves and they suck it up off of the shelf.
Sounds great! I never heard about watermelon recipe.
Some good info in this video. My Otos don't touch algae wafers, but I have to try with Cucumber. Thanks!
Thank you! Yes you should try cucumber. And don’t worry about waffers - it really depends on the brand of the food and source of the fish.
Maybe because most of "algae" waffers have very low algae in them. Most of them have fish and grains as main ingridients. Look at hikari mini algae waffers : fish meal, wheat flour, wheat germ meal, cassava starch, dried bakery products (dried old bread??), Alfalfa concentrate, alfalfa meal, brewers dried yeast, soybean meal, fish oil, krill meal, spirulina, garlic etc.
I feed my otos red pepper, spinach leafs, cucumber, pees and alge waffers and i have alot
of oak leafs on the bottom.Nice video :)
Thank you! Your Otos have better diet than many fishkeepers themselves :)
I also have jullii cories with my otos. I thought this was my tank for a sec! 🤣
Your tank is so clean, very nice! :)
Thank you! Otos are doing most of the cleaning ;)
Oto love spirulina tablet too
Useful info to spread. Most people don't feed Otos and think they should just eat algae and nothing else. And later they are dying from starvation.
Correct! Especially in totally clean tanks.
Otocinclus feed on microfauna to, all fish do. Every tropical tank needs a food web. Once you get your food web growing they will feed your fish
My Ottos go nuts over Hikari Loach wafers and Northfin bug bites.
Nice Otos. They really look healthy!
Thank you! And yes, they are :)
i didnt feed my ottos for 2weeks ..of adding to my 80 days old planted tank..some are eating black beard algae too and they constanly lick on glass and plant leaves
They don't eat beard algae
@@no-knickers-emma1112 in my case they did..offcourse i took pictures
my Ottos love mulberry tree leaves and Hokkaido pumpkin
Mine (cocama) loooove cooked brussels sprouts
I feed them edamame pea and spinach too. oh they love almond leaves.
Oh, yes. Otos really like leaves!
I feed my otocinclus Repashy soilent green gel food. They and my corydoras love it.
How often should I introduce slide cucumber in the tank? Thank you for all the information!
Depends on how many other things they have to eat. You can do it every 1-2 weeks - that is enough ;)
You didn’t touch base on how often? Do you do a waffer like once a day or is it 2-3 times a week? I hear some say that feeding them too much they’ll stop cleaning the tank? What are your thoughts
I try to keep the diet very diverse. 2 different waffers, 3 different vegatables and the rest days are for algae, wood, leaves. I feed only every other day: wafer, nothing, vegetable, nothing, different wafer, nothing... and so on. Never had any problems with them stopping cleaning the tank :)
hello the best for my otos are green lolli sticks the green ones with agave nori and such things my otos going crazy about the sticks 😀
Thanks for sharing!!
My ottos are breeding, I have several tiny ones. Do they need anything special?
I would feed them blanched Zucchini or Cucumber. Plus maybe crushed spirulina flakes. But remember that blanched veggies will quickly rot and spoil the water - so be careful and do frequent water changes! And most important: Congrats and good luck :D
@@AquascapingCube thank you, they seem to be doing fine
Otocinclus feeds on microfauna also, all fish do. Build a food web in your aquarium and you wont need to feed your fish or invertebrates aless you want to give them a treat or something different
I have wood they eat but I've never actually seen mine eat anything. They're big tho. Biggest I've seen. I do have them in a 55 gallon tho so maybe that's Why.
No worries, if they are big and healthy - those guys definitely eat where you are not looking ;)
Thanks for the video. It's good to know that they eat leftover fish food.
Yes, do will eat it - but don't rely just on that ;) They still need to be properly feed.
Mine love canned sliced green beans.
Cool! I haven't tested green beans yet, but I have to check if my Otos will like them.
@@AquascapingCube that is the way to go if you want to be really prepared just rinse out a can , sodium free 1/2 cans of either French style or fresh cut + vitamins A , C , D , & K . During the canning process they are cooked so my 1 tip is clean and then strain it. Personally I would remove all of the seeds @ this time too and then into a food storage bag then remove as much air , I might spend 5 minutes but I think reaching in the freezer to get a few here and there is always the best 👌
Mine eat the algae wafers, but they also eat blood worms.
I feed algae waffers.
Bruh I was told by someone working at a small pet store that they eat blackbeark algae T^T
Yes, they say a lot of things :P Basically what the customer wants to hear ;)
@@AquascapingCube yeah if u ask enough pet shops im sure one will tell you they will do your laundry while you sleep too :P
Hi newbie keeper here, just want to know if otos can eat boiled banana?
Hi. Yes, thay can, but not boiled - it might spoil the water very quickly. Raw banana is ok. And don't leave it for a very long time in the tank, as soon as the fish are full - take it out :)
nice
Most Otto's die of hunger (between South America and your tank). It is an enormous shame.
I just purchased 10 size .5 - 1,5 .from Imperial Tropical . They were not even .5 , could not find any in my aquarium, disappointment.
Am I able to just wash and insert a leaf from my own trees or garden?
Yes, but you should boil them for few minutes first. This will make them water safe. And use almond, oak, beech etc.
I bake them in the oven at the lowest temperature possible for 30 min to dry and kill parasites. I use local leaves n 🇨🇦 oak, maple, beech, walnut, chestnut. Pick non-diseased leaves from a clean area. Local fresh stinging nettle provides the medicinal benefits.
Otherwise here its C$1/catapa leaf!
Wait yo what is that fish on the background when u start talking about leaves, wood, and cones it looks like a cichlid but I just wanna know
Yes, this is dwarf cichlid. Apistogramma Cacatuoides Orange
@@AquascapingCube oh how big does it get when its adult
About 8cm (3in) for male, 5cm (2in) for female. In the video you can see a male.
@@AquascapingCube oh tysm
I wasted money on every brand of wafers. My oto (the others were killed by my bettas when the otos began mating) only eats the algae in the tank. He won’t eat any veggies or anything
Microfauna and Macrofauna and algae is what our fish eat in the wild. Why not put it in your aquarium and watch how you dont have to feed your fish. Plus the food dont spoil because its live and beneficial for your tank
