A weapon at that FPS on a near point blank throat hit has the potential to actually be lethal. We had a incident some years back where a guy did similar to this with a bolt action sniper.
Turned out the guy was running a near 550fps spring, and metal rolled 0.32bb's in the rifle... UK limit by law is 450 for a bolt action with a 30meter engagement.
He ended up shooting a guy near point blank in the side of the throat at a game; guy he shot ended up in hospital to have the round removed. Missed his artery by a few centimeters.
Shit like this isn't just stupid, it's incredibly dangerous and I hope this kids since been banned from the site?

Oh I know, why I said the incident near me used one x3 sadly alot of people go into airsoft these days thinking the guns we're using are the same plastic plinkers they've played with in their garden and don't realize just how dangerous they can be.
I don't know nearly as much as most of the people who comment on these videos honestly. I do know that 400 fps is no joke and can do some damage if hit wrong and in the wrong place. But can it really get to the point where it would be lethal? I've been shot with pellet guns that are used for squirrel hunting...around 500 fps before and they give a damn good welt and maybe a little blood but I didn't know it could go that far in.
I've been airsofting now for about twelve years all told. Alot of it comes down to a combination of factors.
FPS of the gun. Weight of the round (Some people use upto 0.8 gram bb's, most use the normal 0.2 for automatics) and how close/where they're hit.
This weekend we had some new players on the field who wanted to know what it felt like getting shot so they could pick what gear to wear.
We shot them with a normal AEG firing around 320fps, from roughly ten meters or thirty feet. Five rounds a piece in the back. Every single one of them left a firm welt and red area where they'd hit since they were only wearing t-shirts.
Thats from a low/normal power gun at a safe range. Now imagine a much more powerful gun, using heavier rounds, much closer; and you see why it can become dangerous.
If you youtube search airsoft injury's, you'll even see some people have had bb's pierce their skin at LONG range, well outside the safe minimum engagement for the gun in use.
Alot of it comes down to the gun, but other times; simple bad luck. It's why we always recommend good, full covering clothing and face guards.
I took one to the jaw from about a 5 feet away and I had to pop it out of my skin like a pimple. The place is indoor and limit is 380fps...so I could only imagine what a 500+fps would have done.
For anybody who is interested, "Ranger 75" is the cheater (and his father). If he's mad, you all know why. No sympathy.

That's the problem with abbreviations that mean more than one thing, in certain contexts it's hard to tell what someone is referring to if they use them.
A good example, as you mentioned, is FPS, which can be either:
-Feet Per Second
-Frames Per Second

Was hosting & reffing a paintball game once upon a time. House rules were max FPS 300. Some kid went running bye spraying randomly in a general direction... As I was moved away, and facing away from him (as a ref) one of his random shots hit me behind the mask. Instant blood meant something was wrong. Everyone was shocked when we chrono'd him at 515 FPS, and when he tried to flip an attitude, I (hold the kid's gun for the chronograph) shot him in the leg with his own marker. He screamed like a baby, and I think learned his lesson.

There is no way a paintball gun was shooting 515. The ball would break the second the bolt pushes it forward.
IAmTheFatman666 It totally depends on the marker and barrel. The kid had an expensive Autococker with a short barrel. Back in the day I would have totally agreed with you, but since then I have shot markers made by the military in 90's that shoot 600 fps ... And they're nearly impossible to tune down to normal arena rules.
time to get a different set up then.
He could have been using outdated balls, that were hardened enough to stay intact. I had that happen once.. We used rent guns and pretty much none of the balls broke in contact, more of "hey i hit you with a round rubber ball" what lead me to start playing airsoft :D

I'm 50 yrs old and this is the first time commenting on Dutch's channel here. Dutch is honorable, hands down, flat out honorable and anyone would be lucky to have him on their team. The child in question could have said "Oops, sorry" or Hey was just a reaction" and this crap would have ended right there because of Dutch's demeanor. Mouthing off like he did only escalated the whole scene mainly because he was using the overpowered gun, knew he was and didn't seem to care that he just shot someone in the face. Regardless about the rules of the game that's just not cool. I would sentence him to lifetime BAN from all 'Airsoft" parks.

I've gotten into a similar situation last time I played. I ran up on a player and shot him and although it was perfectly clear that I hit him, he told me that he also hit me in my chest rig. I didn't feel nor did hear the shot/impact whatsoever, but I took his word for it and we both settled it calmly and in a friendly manner and we walked out without a fight. It's not worth getting pissed and starting a scene, but in your case, you had every right to be upset. You clearly shot him first and he shot you back seconds later with a gun that's too hot for that engagement distance. He should've been forced to use a different gun since he clearly isn't responsible enough to use a 490 FPS DMR properly. Those guns can cause some serious damage, especially to younger players and people who use minimal protection.

In my country he would've been banned forever by the game organizer. Blatantly Ignoring minimum engagement distance like that is a clear insta-ban offense.
ochidanoo: Well, teeth can get snapped even by legal guns at close range. This is why it is advisable to wear mouth/face protection (personally I forego mouth protection since I'm a designated commander by the team I play with and I find it hard to shout orders and pertinent information while wearing some kind of mask), but I accept the risk of chipping teeth if I take a really unlucky hit to the mouth. It's my choice and I won't chew anyone out for hitting me in the teeth.
What grinds my gears about this guy is just his complete lack of judgement and blatant disregard of the rules. He refuses to chrono his gun, he knows it's not allowed to shoot with at CQB range, and he sits in a fucking building shooting at someone right outside of it knowing full well he's too far within minimum engagement distance.

I got shot in the back by my former best friend by an airsoft PMC AK-47 that was rated at 495 fps. Point blank, in the back, no protection. It was truly awful, and fuckers like this guy need to be kicked.

I have a m249 that shoots 450fps full automatic, I was curious as I had never been shot with my own weapon before (I was still newish to airsoft and young lol) I wanted to know what it felt like, so I had my friend shoot me from like 10 feet away. That shit hurt like a mother fucke r 😂

Had a zombies mode in my airsoft game once. There was a dude with an M60 and just fired into the zombies as they moved up. Wasn't much cover despite the trees it was quite fun.
Bourbon when I was younger I had to play paintball, and my friend has a hell of a trigger finger... game mode was ctf and whilst running back I turned, crouched and shot a few people, we wore like masks that didn’t cover the back of your head and his trigger finger ass sprays whilst sprinting to the right, fucker hits me in the head 4 times.. completely unrelated story but just tryna fill a comment section

Simple way to fix the problem of people skipping chrono (my local air soft site just started this) - Put one of those sticky bands through the trigger guard. Different colour every week so people can't bring their own and fake their way through the process. Every gun is chrono'd and then checked to make sure it has a band on it, if it doesn't and you attempt to get past the marshals your gun gets immediately chrono'd. If you're under the limit, they let you off. If not, you're kicked off the range for the day.

Geez man. I remember about six years back, I was playing paintball at Orlando Paintball. If you bring your own gun, it has to be checked to make sure it’s at or under regulation. Apparently this one guy had his get checked, and then turned up the power on it. To be honest I don’t know how you make those types of adjustments, but apparently he turned it down to pass check, and then turned it back up afterwards. I was the first person that he shot after doing so, and even at a distance of about 10 yards he drew blood, and fragments of the paintball were literally embedded in my skin. He ended up ejected minutes into the first round, and was banned from Orlando Paintball for life. All these years later and I still have the scar on my bicep from where he hit me.
I feel that, back when I was 13 or 14 and playing paintball, there was this cheater that had cranked the PSI on his weapon (an X7 Phenom automatic) to the max.
I was clearing a simple plywood room, and as soon as I walked in the door, I got lit the fuck up, 13 balls/second moving at around 475 fps hit me in the chest and my right arm.
It was all that I could do to not break down from the pain, I just staggered back and leaned against the wall and slid down it, gasping in pain. The asshole simply walked out.
Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for him, my dad, a former special forces soldier, saw what happened, and proceeded to dish out the asshole's own medicine back to him before rushing into the room where I was still sitting, trying to remember how to breath, and helped me up and walked me to the safe area.
I still have circular shaped scars on my right bicep and on my chest. It was disgusting.
The asshole was kicked from the area immediately, and I played the rest of the day despite my pain, because I was a young kid who still wanted to have fun

Hah, here in Finland 500fps is not even considered that much, snipers do have a certain distance they must have but that is only for safety, not to lessen pain. However i think that making these cheater videos is fucking great since new guys get inspired by you. Kids, play fair or you never get skilled.

My friend used to run a Hk416 DMR (semi only gun) that chronoed 560fps, and it didn't even hurt when you had all your gear on even when we didn't have sniper distance limits (Finland is cold AF, we have a lot of clothes and cushion on us during the colder days)

When I lived in Oxnard I got to play at this course and it was awesome. Mid west just doesn't have the same feel. Was a bonus to have military choppers flying overhead for effect (at the time was the oxnard/Camarillo fire and they were moving water)

I wouldn't put it above this kid to say he probably played above 500fps at times. I'm not sure if this is a law in the U.S but anything shooting projectiles over 500fps requires a firearms license.
Its not a law, you can purchase pellet or BB guns that have fps's of over 1000 at walmart just by walking in and handing the guy the price of the gun. I have a 1200 fps pellet gun just because, I dont shoot people or animals with it, I just like the target practice.

In Canada anything over 495fps is considered a firearm and requires a PAL (Firearms licence).
