I need one of these, I get home from work at 2 am or later, and I always want to play guitar when I get home, but people are sleeping, so I can't play... the headphone jack on this pedal would be perfect for late night jamming.
I love that boss added the features lacking from UAFX and others - headphones, effects loop and DAW interface. What a powerful compact pedal. I'm excited to see how the competition responds. I was going to buy a Two Notes Opus and UAFX Lion, but I think I will pass on both in favor of the IR 2.
Agree, without an effects loop it is a waste of time and money. Leo go me onto amp academy but I got a Lemon and sent it back. I use two Joyos, have a sans amp but I think this is my next amp for recording and gigging.

Great demo of the BOSS IR-2. Among the videos I have watched, you are the only one who have demonstrated the power of using the stereo function of the Send/Return loop of this pedal. BOSS did not even show this in any of their videos AFAIK. This is a feature that I have long been waiting for in an IR pedal. Congratulations!!!

I am really enjoying all the hype above this great pedal. As a GT1000 owner I coudn’t adapt to other pedals like tonex, kemper, Headrush, helix and fractal for feeling better with the GT (faster response and tube-like dinamics as no other) and kept wondering why most users don’t bother the Boss units. Maybe its a game changer for Boss corp.

I want one of these so bad, especially for the headphone jack. I get home in the middle of the night, so I can't use my Egnater Tweaker 15, too loud. Headphones jack = 👍🎉 Oh yeah, and it sounds fantastic, and stereo effects loop is an extra bonus. Also, being able to directly interface to record via USB sounds like it will save so much time and frustration. Not to say I'll never go back to using an amp and mic, as well.

Great review and performance. I am awestruck! Boss is amazing; I doubt I'll need this since I already have a GT-1000Core and a Helix Stomp which for me is modeling overkill (not to mention an Ampero 2 Stomp and a GP-200LT) all for a nylon string Flamenco guitar. Your reviews save me much research pain and time learning about all of this that I never had before. I am 83 and won't be around for too much longer, but all you lucky kids have access to tones never available in my growing years... (and, of course, Flamenco uses very different techniques than electric or even acoustic guitar). That said, there is good and bad news (about music, but also applies to politics in the US) First the good news: The tools of production are at last in the hands of the proletariat. Hi, thank you for the question! I record with a Brauner Phantom AE mic that goes into a Universal Audio 610 mic pre that goes into my audio interface. Typically I record 3 or 4 tracks with my own voice using different harmonies...that's a lot of fan!!! Thank you!
This is really nice for a board! I like my IR-200. With my own IRs it is a great solution to just play a quick few lines without having to switch on an amp. I pair it with my H9 and am done.

Wow, this intro is awesome. The pedal looks good too. Is the quality of the amps and cabs the same as the IR200 but with a reduced number of opti0ns or is there a sound quality compromise (to me it sounded great anyway, specially at your hands).

Excellent demo. But why are people freaking out over it vs the 200 that has been around for years. Isn’t it the same device in a scraped version? Besides that the ir-200 has midi and that the usb is a better c on the ir-2 vs a usb mini on the ir-200? I don’t have any of them yet but just confused. So if anyone can clarify 👍🏼🎸
HI, maybe I will make a video with all the differences between the two devices. Of course the form factor, the weight and the price are pretty important aspects (in my opinion) to take into consideration. Thank you for your message
You’re one of the few that highlights the positioning of the fx loop return (after cab but before reverb). That will be perfect if you have a looper last in your fx loop and wanna make use of the loopers drums or add vocals or piano via the loopers inputs. They won’t be affected by the cab sim which is great. Of course the reverb might have to be toned down in those cases or add a reverb pedal only for guitar just before the looper. So no extra gear needed to implement other instruments if you’re a solo looping artist. The IR2 is the base for everything. Or do I miss something?
Curious why you feel it's a beginner grade pedal? It's far from it from my experience with it and I still haven't fully wrapped my head around this pedal yet.
@@joellebrodeur1015 The tone is mediocre at best. So for the uninspiring tone and the price it's a good beginner pedal to me. There are modelers that are better, and amp in a box like that UA Lion that is much much better tone wise and feature wise.

Hi, you are welcome! No, you cannot, you need a power amp and you have to deactivate the cab sim of the BOSS. These are all in one devices aimed to mimic the full chain amp + cab. Typically you connect these device directly to your mixing desk or to an FRFR speaker.

One question not easy to find the answer online, This boss IR-2 do not have a low / high cuts options like other bigger units, is that an issue to use it on stage(fletcher manson effect...) ? I am always wonder if it s actually needed Low High cuts if using IRs, as they are already supposed to cut frequencies similar to a cabinet would do,...thanks for sharing your thoughts about it!
Hi, interesting topic. I don't have a "black or white" answer, but I think that if you go straight into the mixing desk, you can apply eq in the mixing desk itself (if needed). Actually some eq should be applied in any case, in order to fit the guitar tone with all the other instruments.... Thanks
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks for your answer, thats very true, if playing in some venue with mixing desk normally the sound guy should do this LPF HPF for guitar and bass, sometimes in small venues that is not the case tho, and for monitoring can eventually be an issue too, imho the main things of amp sims that ppl complain about are 1 the tone (this in 2024 is very solved I think even unexpensive units with some twicking can have a very usable nice tone), 2 the feeling, (I think when ppl say sims do not feels like an valve amp, 95 % of what they don't feel is related to latency and your channels seems to be the only one who put focus on that🙌) and 3) the tone is not reliable when passing from room/studio to live gig volume. Normally a parametric eq with LPF HPF should solve that last issue and just big units or just a few small ones have that. Thanks for your channel I learned a lot
In depth reviews like this are brilliant because it's a pedal with some powerful sound making possibilities....however that's only if these possibilities are understood properly by the user. So thank you for taking the time and trouble to really explain and explore what the IR2 can do..👍

Of course this will cause all kinds of weirdly bitter trolls who couldn’t name a single Beatle without consulting Wikipedia to leave the predictable knee-jerk laugh-faces, but I’m sure I must be missing something re cab sims as opposed to “IRs”… it’s seeming that IRs are somehow different and if I’m understanding the hype, they are “better” than cab sims? How so? IRs are not cab sims, yet they are cab sims? Perhaps the difficulty is I’m not woke, and I choose the public restroom I need to use without getting confused, etc. My current impression, until I’m corrected and my query is clarified, is this is a stripped-down version of a Boss GT board which is being glorified above the more featureful Boss full pedalboards. I’d love to know what I’m missing, because I’m not “getting” it.

Knowing that it's not a question of money or space on the pedalboard. Just which one is best? Another question is that the IR-2 has 11 amps available and the IR-200 has 8 for guitar (+4 for bass), will the IR-200 be upgraded to the 11 amps of the IR-2? Thanks
Hi, generally speaking the IR 200 offers more options...the only exceptions I would mentions are the number of guitar amps and bass amps...as you said... and the placement of the FX loop, that is after the cab in the IR 2 and after the amp and before the cab in the IR 200...
Hi Leon. I've been offline awhile as I had an accident working in the garage and broke my leg. Just now walking again after 3.5 months. I saw this and had to watch. Very cool. I love Boss products and think the value is great we get from Roland and Boss... I'm going to search in a minute to see if you've used or tried the UAFX Plexi Super Lead 68 pedal and reviewed it. I hear great reviews about it's sound and it's feel which I want.. The only negative is that it has no headphones out put so you need something like an FRFR speaker to monitor yourself or use the 4c method to plug into the power amp of some amo and a cab.. This is a real bummer for me.. We shall see if they change it in the future, but so far UA hasn't done so with their amp pedals.. ❤ Be well sir. ❤

Just bought the opus and was wishing it would had that option when I first tried it out it sounds really good but that option was missing It basically one trick pony when it comes putting it on your pedal board The boss definitely a better option darn it Bye bye opus
Hi, there are 2 main advantages in my opinion: 1) you can hear the external effects also when you use the headphone out of the IR 2 2) you can place for instance a stereo chorus before the IR2 reverb...otherwise you should have placed the chorus after the reverb...which is odd. Thank you!

This is really nice for a board! I like my IR-200. With my own IRs it is a great solution to just play a quick few lines without having to switch on an amp. I pair it with my H9 and am done.

Wow, this intro is awesome. The pedal looks good too. Is the quality of the amps and cabs the same as the IR200 but with a reduced number of opti0ns or is there a sound quality compromise (to me it sounded great anyway, specially at your hands).

So its a ubs audio interface at 96k. Scary. Kemper player and tonex only record at 44.1k as an interface. Amazing.

Excellent demo. But why are people freaking out over it vs the 200 that has been around for years. Isn’t it the same device in a scraped version? Besides that the ir-200 has midi and that the usb is a better c on the ir-2 vs a usb mini on the ir-200?

You’re one of the few that highlights the positioning of the fx loop return (after cab but before reverb). That will be perfect if you have a looper last in your fx loop and wanna make use of the loopers drums or add vocals or piano via the loopers inputs. They won’t be affected by the cab sim which is great. Of course the reverb might have to be toned down in those cases or add a reverb pedal only for guitar just before the looper. So no extra gear needed to implement other instruments if you’re a solo looping artist. The IR2 is the base for everything. Or do I miss something?

@@joellebrodeur1015 The tone is mediocre at best. So for the uninspiring tone and the price it's a good beginner pedal to me. There are modelers that are better, and amp in a box like that UA Lion that is much much better tone wise and feature wise.

Hi, so far It does not have bass amp simulations. The IR 200 has 8 guitar amp sim (vs 11 in the IR 2 ) and 3 bass amp simulations.

Hi, you are welcome!
No, you cannot, you need a power amp and you have to deactivate the cab sim of the BOSS. These are all in one devices aimed to mimic the full chain amp + cab. Typically you connect these device directly to your mixing desk or to an FRFR speaker.

Ciao, si, cambiano alcune funzionalità...ad es IR 2 ha 11 amp di chitarra, mentre IR 200 ne ha 8 con 3 amp di basso. Poi IR 2 ha il loop effetti tra la cassa e il riverbero, mentre IR 200 tra amp e cassa....

One question not easy to find the answer online, This boss IR-2 do not have a low / high cuts options like other bigger units, is that an issue to use it on stage(fletcher manson effect...) ? I am always wonder if it s actually needed Low High cuts if using IRs, as they are already supposed to cut frequencies similar to a cabinet would do,...thanks for sharing your thoughts about it!

I don't have a "black or white" answer, but I think that if you go straight into the mixing desk, you can apply eq in the mixing desk itself (if needed). Actually some eq should be applied in any case, in order to fit the guitar tone with all the other instruments....

@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks for your answer, thats very true, if playing in some venue with mixing desk normally the sound guy should do this LPF HPF for guitar and bass, sometimes in small venues that is not the case tho, and for monitoring can eventually be an issue too, imho the main things of amp sims that ppl complain about are 1 the tone (this in 2024 is very solved I think even unexpensive units with some twicking can have a very usable nice tone), 2 the feeling, (I think when ppl say sims do not feels like an valve amp, 95 % of what they don't feel is related to latency and your channels seems to be the only one who put focus on that🙌) and 3) the tone is not reliable when passing from room/studio to live gig volume. Normally a parametric eq with LPF HPF should solve that last issue and just big units or just a few small ones have that. Thanks for your channel I learned a lot
In depth reviews like this are brilliant because it's a pedal with some powerful sound making possibilities....however that's only if these possibilities are understood properly by the user.

Of course this will cause all kinds of weirdly bitter trolls who couldn’t name a single Beatle without consulting Wikipedia to leave the predictable knee-jerk laugh-faces, but I’m sure I must be missing something re cab sims as opposed to “IRs”… it’s seeming that IRs are somehow different and if I’m understanding the hype, they are “better” than cab sims? How so? IRs are not cab sims, yet they are cab sims? Perhaps the difficulty is I’m not woke, and I choose the public restroom I need to use without getting confused, etc.
My current impression, until I’m corrected and my query is clarified, is this is a stripped-down version of a Boss GT board which is being glorified above the more featureful Boss full pedalboards.
I’d love to know what I’m missing, because I’m not “getting” it.
I loved the reviews as always. Very good and with lots of useful things. I wanted to know between IR-2 and IR-200 which is better? Knowing that it's not a question of money or space on the pedalboard. Just which one is best? Another question is that the IR-2 has 11 amps available and the IR-200 has 8 for guitar (+4 for bass), will the IR-200 be upgraded to the 11 amps of the IR-2?

Hi, generally speaking the IR 200 offers more options...the only exceptions I would mentions are the number of guitar amps and bass amps...as you said... and the placement of the FX loop, that is after the cab in the IR 2 and after the amp and before the cab in the IR 200...
They will sell a truck load of these. So many use cases

Hi Leon. I've been offline awhile as I had an accident working in the garage and broke my leg. Just now walking again after 3.5 months. I saw this and had to watch. Very cool. I love Boss products and think the value is great we get from Roland and Boss...
I'm going to search in a minute to see if you've used or tried the UAFX Plexi Super Lead 68 pedal and reviewed it. I hear great reviews about it's sound and it's feel which I want.. The only negative is that it has no headphones out put so you need something like an FRFR speaker to monitor yourself or use the 4c method to plug into the power amp of some amo and a cab..
This is a real bummer for me.. We shall see if they change it in the future, but so far UA hasn't done so with their amp pedals.. ❤

Just bought the opus and was wishing it would had that option when I first tried it out it sounds really good but that option was missing
It basically one trick pony when it comes putting it on your pedal board

What is the advantage of placing the effects in the effects loop as opposed to having everything straight in a row to the soundboard?
Hi, there are 2 main advantages in my opinion:
1) you can hear the external effects also when you use the headphone out of the IR 2
2) you can place for instance a stereo chorus before the IR2 reverb...otherwise you should have placed the chorus after the reverb...which is odd.
