Truth,I'm getting arthritis,I'm a young 56. Been watching the channel a long time, these techniques are critical for me in a self defense situation. Helps me feel I'm still a part in martial arts. Many many thanks

What you've shown here at the start of your video is exactly the reason why I bounced off Aikido.
My experience of Aikido dojo training was that it was always reliant on a wrist grab of some sort - and then performing a technique. Where as I - after being mugged once - was looking for a more practical form of self defence.
But what you guys show here and in your other videos is both practical and effective. Shows us how useful Aikido can be. Thank you.
(Incidentally - went onto get eventually my karate 1st Dan. Keeping them at arm's length rather than grappling. Not better - just different 😁)

    Great vid, guys
In recent months been obsessing over a channel (US based) VEE AJ JITSU aka Professor David James who teaches what works on the street.
Bare in mind what allowable in the States may not be permissible or legal here in the UK but Professor David trying to instil the mind of survival/ winning to home unscathed as well as alive, that means do what’s necessary to shut down being in danger…
Many thanks for demonstrating that Aikido can be effective for street self defence.

Practice in the dojo is like bag work for a boxer. It's about practicing your own movements and drilling the techniques into muscle memory. A boxer doesn't go into the ring expecting the opponent to take every punch like a bag does, and an aikidoka shouldn't approach a real situation expecting a compliant uke.
The image problem comes from the fact that people see this practice and assume that's all there is. Imagine if you only saw boxers hitting a bag. You'd probably say that would never work in real life too. "People don't hang from a little chain and let you hit them!"

Great video this time, guys. 👍 I recently was perusing RUclips videos on Aikido and ran across a recent one posted of some annual international "demonstration" conference of Aikido held in some foreign country (Japan, IIRC) within the last year or so. Although the techniques shown utilized various sensei with advanced "dans", it consisted of the usual "dojo fluff" (as I call it) of pre-rehearsed and practiced moves, clear telegraphing of "attacks" by the uke, "offering" of the arm toward the uke by the nage to initiate the particular technique, etc. etc. 🙄. Disgusting! I wrote in the "comments" section of the video how videos and demos like that one have given Aikido a bad rep as not an effective form of combat/self defense in real life over the decades since its inception. Apparently, that comment tripped someone's trigger (whom I gather might have been a sponsor of the conference, from the content of his verbal attack on me). He made the ridiculous claim that I was "misinformed" if I believed that Aikido was meant to be a form of combat or effective in a real-life self defense situation, that it never claimed to be such, etc. In response, I pointed out to him that Aikido, by definition itself, is a MARTIAL art .. which means it is one involving fighting, combat, etc. and therefore, by implication, practical self defense. (duh) I asked him what HE believed it to be -- only some form of "dance" art? A form of "physical exercise" and self confidence building, as is the case with Judo? I suggested the sponsors of the conference might be wise to include such a "disclaimer" in their notices of the event to the general public. Eventually, we seemed to agree that the dojo/traditional version of Aikido is not for fighters and if it is self-defense which is desired that one should look elsewhere, and left it at that.
    KEEP GROWING, AIKIDOFLOWERS!

I used to practice aiki-budo, which was supposed to be the "warrior" or "samouraï" way of aikido. And, the leranings were just like that. And, as a matter of fact, I then tried an akido more classic class, and God!??? I thought I was in a dancing class!😂 It was so unrealistic; we didn't even had the right to mimic a real punch... pfff!
    I said to the teacher:
" Except your respect sensei, you really think that someone will attack you in a so flimsy way??? " "I used to be bullied by tougher guys then me, and believe me, getting hit by a real punch has nothing to do with that kind of practice!
All this to say, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY RIGHT! You need to come with something different when it comes to real life and street fighting!
    Thanks alot 4 the vid!

I read a group of news letter from tokimuna takeda (daito ryu), about his father, very interesting, but what stood out was daito ryu was only taught to police officers or naval guards. The other thing ushiba was mentioned as one of takedas top students, he would assist teaching the police, but it was said his aiki was not as developed as takeda, so was having to use strenth to get the technique to work. This i think is normal, and should be ok in the begining, now days you enter the dojo and are told relax, relax no strenth. The point is if ushiba used it, then why not everyone else.

Aikido problem is they have massive training scars…if you train in slow motion and never deal with real contact it’s never gonna work in real life…that’s why professional organisations do control and restraint which has jui jutsu and aikido as its base…but it’s done completely different to an aikido session, & c&r works and is legal

I haven't done aikido or tae kwon do for at least 10 years. I'm overweight and not as fit as I used to be. In a confrontation, the tae kwon do will kick in before the aikido as I did it longer. As I'm a bloater, I'm not going to outrun anyone. In TKD we did these sessions where it was 3 people chasing you. my sensei said to move and run. I just stood there and took them on .
Probably not the best idea if you have a load of punks attacking you. But I've grown older and wiser so I carry a expanding baton which is legal in the US. Steel>bone any day.
I don't have any aggro as I don't go out at night. Bars in the US have a reputation for being rough. I'd rather sit at home and watch footy.
If I still lived in London, I'd definitely check out your dojo.

Nice technique, this is more like Aiki Jujutsu which is more aggressive and practical as it includes and incorporates strikes as a set up for throws, and as a black belt Judoka I should say that any good technique should be practised full on which includes technique, strength, speed spontaneity/unpredictability and agressivity in order to make the moves efficient

Real simple in a street fight the enemy doesn't play by the rules nor should you naturally you're not going to have a competition mentality in a life and death situation although it should be looked at as the same whether it be in a competition where it counts or whether it be in the streets where it's not really irrelevant just blend in the art with whatever gets the job done the enemy doesn't play by The Rules so I be a victim why didn't take what is yours make the attacker or the attackers the victim the key word is enemy anything can be a weapon the very vehicle you drive can be used to subdue the numbers for any technique to work all arts are related in all of the same you know you have to believe in yourself because you are your skill
