Just in case you were expecting someone else by the title - John Christopher Williams is the Australian classical guitar virtuoso and was born in 1941. John Towner Williams was born in 1932 in the USA and wrote the film score to “1941”.
It's really amazing the mastery Williams had on the guitar and all such old instruments at such a young age. Wish he had recorded music with all these instruments. A real genius.
Can someone help me find this: In 2003, I saw on the internet a video of a Spanish man playing Barrios' La Catedral, and using a pick instead of his fingers. He did a perfect job even though playing that piece with a pick is absurdly difficult. The guitar, if I remember, was very small, probably a lute. Lost the video during the next 20 years. Many thanks to anybody who can point me toward that video again.
It's really amazing that in 1963, they had the seriousness of making a program like this. It will be very good education if these days with better technology someone creates a similar program.
Williams has published the Four Praetorius dances, although there are lots of good transcriptions available, many of them shamelessly ripping off JW. Totally agree about the Fleta.
Amazing - takes me back to how TV used to be so well informed
He would be 21 here. I'm sure that's a Fleta. They were beautiful sounding guitars.
John Williams is the 🐐 of classical guitar.
Bravo, John Williams!
Oh, how far the BBC has sunk.
Just very great to take part of young Williams. My god what a player he allready was by that time and of course is nowadays
Pure gold !
I think John Williams did not get enough attention during his career. He is one of my favorites

Segovia played the electric guitar near end of video 😊 the Bach gigue sounded huge
When I recorded "la volta" it never in a million years occurred to take the repeat up an octave! 3:31
My personal opinion is that his RH position is the "one" that should be adopted as standard.
Jom William
👍👍❤
3:28 I thought someone was striking him in the head with that candlestick for a second... out of jealousy.... projection I suppose! HA!!!
