I loved this guy. A true horse. 2000 yard reg season and still went into each playoff game dominating on the ground right to a Superbowl. No running back ever could say that.
Man gotta be one of the greatest 6th round picks ever!!! Loved him when I was a kid! I'm a Giants fan but you couldn't help but enjoy a Broncos game after watching this man run! He was truly gifted and his ability to see the field as he ran was 2nd to none!
He had Vision, perhaps the most underrated trait among running backs. He had Moves, the ability to shake even the most experienced defenders. He had Strength, able to bounce off defenders and break through the arms of the biggest, most fierce tacklers. And he had Speed, the ability to break away from some some of the fastest men on the planet. (Finally, he had Grace, the forethought to understand where he stood and how to remain humble in the face of his burgeoning superstar status)
One of the best running backs to ever play the game,a two time superbowl champion and he's in the hall of fame he should have been there a long time ago
@@brandongomez6401 I just think they let him in because he was on nfl network. He was a great player. But not that long as Deion sanders said. He didn’t change football. In fact when he retired Mike Anderson orlandis Gary and Clinton Portis ran for 1000+ yards in the same system. If he’s a HOF Shaun Alexander belongs as well he had a HOF stretch. So did priest Holmes and so did Jamal Lewis. A couple years doesn’t equal HOF that’s all I’m saying. He was great but not GOAT status
Should have been 1st ballot hall of fame. As we now know 2000 yards in a season truly shows how special that running back is. Very very exclusive club Super Bowl MVP and 2000 yards rushing club. So rare we haven't had one since CJ2K. With the way offenses play now I doubt we will see a 2000 yard rusher for a very long time. TD should be mentioned amongst the all time greats definitely top 10. Maybe top 5.
If anyone thinks that it was just his line that was the main reason for him having so much success, watch his first Superbowl against the Packers, the announcers can't stop talking about how the Denver line is one of the smallest in the NFL; and how the key match up was going to be the Packers HUGE defensive line, one of the best in the NFL at the time. If an offensive line was so critical to his success, Emmitt would have rushed for 2,000 with that stacked line he had. I know that the offensive line is a huge part of the run game, the Cowboys now-a-days can put anyone in the back field and get 1,000 yards out of them; but pushing beyond just 1,000 yards and getting 21 touchdowns in a season, 2,008 yards AND being so great in the playoffs against the best teams, it says something about the player.
I think TD is one of the best I ever saw, but the point about how small the Denver O-line is a little off. Shanahan's O-line wasn't a bunch of big guys but that was by design. He wanted smaller, more nimble guys that fit into his running offense. It was due to the scheme he ran. It was a primary, counters & secondary counters that they ran off of limited formations. It required guys that weren't as big, but could move a little better to get to their spots.
The Denver O-Line was by design efficient, agile, and quick. That is why Denver could literally put anyone in the backfield and they would get 1000 yards by the end of the season, as evidence of what happened when Davis was lost to injury. Terrell Davis was so good, that is why he was able to reel off 2000 yards… Emmitt Smith had one of the best O-Lines in NFL history, even he never came close to 2000 yards and he had plenty of opportunities to reach it. Terrell Davis could have had two 2000 yards seasons, However, chose to sit out the last game and a half the season prior to achieving it. The season he did accomplish the feet, was more of an expectation rather than an aspiration that year… …
I grew up in Colorado during 1996-1999 when they won the Super Bowl 2 times in a row and I'm gonna tell you something, that Mile High Salute was DIFFERENT!
Key for great premier running backs such as Davis is quick excelleration in the backfield after a "sliver or seam" opens up in the offensive line. It doesn't give the defensive backs time to adjust and attack the runner. All truly great running backs have this along with great peripheral vision. Terrell, Brown, Dickerson, Simpson and Sanders, all had that.
hes so good at excellerating, his excelleration truly excellerates him past his "offensive line". his excelleration may really have excellerated him into an excellerated path excellerating towards the hall of fame. he has great peripheral vision along with his excelleration. he can read things excellerating past him on his side perfectly. this excellerates his gameplay to excellerated leveles
I meet Him 2 times. Once after his rookie season and once after they won the Super Bowl against the Packers. He was the exact same person both times. Down to earth and extremely nice. If I ever meet him again it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he would be the same extremely nice person I met previously. He deserves to be in the HOF in my opinion I know there are a lot of people that disagree but Elway wouldn’t have went out on top if it wasn’t for Davis!

Absolutely loved TD!! This video brought back some awesome memories of growing up, sitting inside a nice warm house in Colorado during the winter - watching the Broncos win. I really hope that TD's migraines weren't a symptom of some larger issues due to concussions. I don't want to hear another horror story...
As a Packers fan, TD not only gets the most ultimate respect from me, but he absolutely ran over a great Packers defense in the Super Bowl and always scared the hell out of me, since that day. If he would have stayed healthy, he would have crushed a lot of records.
Those were great years. Td was incredible. A nice guy. Worked hard, and earned everything. That guy was the best I ever saw at one cut and go. Drift drift and explode. What most forget is he took off the second half in many games. Broncos we’re blowing people out. I know they were saving him but imagine if he had just 60 more rushes. Maybe 2300 yrd maybe more.
