There's very good reason why the Blackbird became a RECON aircraft only. It's pretty much the exact same good and bad sides as caused the MiG-25 to end up similarly. And big problem, the west doesn't have any true longrange AAMs since the Phoenix was retired. The latest model AMRAAMs are trying to pretend they can mostly do it, but their limitations from being designed as mediumrange pretty much kills their chances. The Meteor is the closest you can get, and while good, it still can't compete with the missiles the MiG-31 carries, or perhaps more correctly, it cannot compete with the powerful MiG-31 radar providing the missiles far superior guidance than any western fighter can manage. And bad sides, like that it cracks more easily than steel or aluminium. The Mig 31s comparison is actually the F 14 and Phoenix missile combination. The Mig 31 was designed to take out B 52s and B-1s just like the Tomcat was intended to shoot down TU 22M backfires before they could attack US carriers. Both the Mig 31 and F 14 carried long range air to air missiles that work well against bombers but not so much against other fighters.
The Mig-31 Foxhound was mainly designed for high -altitude and BVR interception not for dogfight and there is no point to make a comparison between two aircrafts different in size, power and capability.

Im going with reality. The F15 has a perfect record in actual combat missions never having been shot down. Russian jets like all Russian military equipment is based on 18th century thinking that bigger is always better. Pilot training and skill, finesse is what matters, however. Any fool can step on the gas and go really fast in any machine that moves. Races however, are won in the turns.
If they fight it wont be about stats...stats do not transfer to combat in the sky. They both fit a system and work with many other weapons in that system, not alone. If you are fighting a Mig 31 you are also fighting s400 and its very long range radar, you are fighting a50 and many other weapons ...If your in the 31 you face AEW, F35, while you search for 15 you have stealthy 22 could be close. one v one is just for you tube and video games.

What. No 40 years of history has told us otherwise. The F15 was built as the response to what the US thought was the ultimate fighter jet capable of out manuevering and out running anything in the sky and thus the F15 was made to be better than the ultimate fighter jet. While the MiG is faster...by a little (the F-15 can sprint for 90 seconds to M2.5) it can't hold a candle to the Eagle as a flying machine. Many years ago the Russians lost their Chief Test Pilot in a MiG-31 accident where his fuel indicators went haywire and he thought he was running out...but it was almost fully laden and when he tried to turn to final (again thinking it was light of fuel) he stalled and crashed. For high altitude interception I'll give it to the MiG...but everywhere else the Eagle wins hands down. Good video!
math-challenged or hearing problem maybe? the 31's 190-mile AAMs have almost twice the reach of the f-15's 100-mile AAMs. The chicken would have to survive six 31 AAMs before firing its first AAM (but the 31 would never allow the chicken to get close enough for that). And the speed of the 31's AAMs is nowadays well above 12 mach compared to 6 mach for the chicken.

The amraam 120 has a top speed between Mach 4 to 4.5 depending what sources you quote… the mig 31 can certainly fly up to 80k+ (service ceiling), but it doesn’t maintain this height, traveling w/ nose down to do a top down attack/interception of the enemy… it’s top speed is anywhere from Mach 2.8 to 3.0… So I completely disagree with you, and Amram 120 Can and will catch up to MIG 31… amraam 120 is also more agile then the mig 31 specially in head on situation.

They're both nice fighters. But that's as far as it goes. Though Mig-31 may climb faster to shoot down opponents from above the F-15 can easily avoid its missiles and respond with one of our own. Remember that the Mig 31 is not maneuverable as the F 15 thus can't avoid missiles that easy!

The F15 is definitely the superior fighter jet of the two. For it's original (interceptor) purpose, the M31 is more specialized. Two different designs for two different purposes. However, I see the awesome beauty of both jets.
I would say that the mig-31 would probably beat the original F15 a/b in a long range engagement, but that a modern F15 will beat any mig-31 any day in the week.
The mig-31 is a long range fighter, it has a huge radar with range up to 200 km, it has r33 missiles with 120 km max range. So i would say it would be able to spot and lock a early F-15 before it could do the same. Really thats what it was designed to do, long range kills. And since the soviets only had the mig 23 which the F-15 turned to dust it was necessary.

It was even shot down by North Vietnamese pilot using a MiG17. Initially SAM2 could not reach B52 due to interference. However, North Vietnamese engineers improved the SAM2 five times and it shocked the world. Mig31 and F15 are just weapons. No one knows if the US and Russia have any hidden cards! Any situation that does not rely on agility, the MiG-31 is much more likely to win. Any situation where there are multiple of each opposing each other, the MiG-31 automatically wins. You are comparing apples and oranges since the Mig-31 is unlikely to engage an F15, that role is for the SU-57 which will be around assuming any NATO combat with Russia will take place within their integrated Dome radar and missile system that can detect all NATO aircraft, including the F-35 some 300 km away and direct missiles from the ground, ships and fighter aircraft onto the target. In this situation, the Mig031 will be flying well above the altitude of the NATO jets, as it is in Ukraine at the moment where it releases its missiles from within Russian air space before turning away to avoid anti-air missiles. This allows it missiles to benefit from the kinetic energy gained as it falls to the altitude of the target so making it more difficult to detect and avoid by forward searching radar. This aircraft has been responsible for a major share of the 411 Ukraine jets shot down so far in this war.

Are you freaking kidding me? The MIG-31 is an ugly, old flying box that's never killed anything and never will. If Russia could get 10 of them airborne at once I'd be impressed. Their pilots don't get enough training, their maintenance crews don't get enough parts, etc. An under-performing aircraft with no maintenance support and unskilled pilots is going to get massacred. By contrast the F-15 is the most lethal air-to-air fighter of all time. Something like a 105-0 kill ratio. No F-15 has ever been shot down in air-to air combat. We already learned a painful lesson about relying on interceptors (in the 1960s). The Russians apparently have not. What makes this even more embarassing (for Russia) is that in addition to the technological edge, we now also have the numerical edge. We have nearly 1000 5th gen fighters: the Russians and Chinese combined have maybe 10. No one in the West should fear the Big Bad Bear. Its more like Paddington Bear.
How is soviet doctrine all about high speed intercept and not maneuverability... of the Su27 is soviet era and it was one of, if not the most maneuverable fighter at the time? I often hear, that actually the russians were and still are hyper focused on maneuverability.. as for USAF doctrine they focus on high energy. The MiG31 was a thing all on it's one... there's no western analogous to it. It was made to intercept the supersonic spy and bomber planes. Then they were adapted into a BVR platform against other fighters, and most recently adapted to Air-to-ground missions.
How does it fare against the Eagle? Simple, the eagle has a better radar.. but the difference isn't as high as most think. The eagle will likely see the foxhound first. That being said... without a longer range missile, as the USAF doesn't yet have a long range AA missile, the Foxhound has an advantage in range, and it will use it to press the Eagle back into a defensive position. I know that the best Ukraine has is soviet era Su27.. but even if they got an F16 or even F15.. without the right weapons it would be the same, as most of VKS's Air to air kills have been made by Foxhounds far away from the frontlines.

Nah, wouldn't work. There's very good reason why the Blackbird became a RECON aircraft only. It's pretty much the exact same good and bad sides as caused the MiG-25 to end up similarly.
And big problem, the west doesn't have any true longrange AAMs since the Phoenix was retired. The latest model AMRAAMs are trying to pretend they can mostly do it, but their limitations from being designed as mediumrange pretty much kills their chances.
The Meteor is the closest you can get, and while good, it still can't compete with the missiles the MiG-31 carries, or perhaps more correctly, it cannot compete with the powerful MiG-31 radar providing the missiles far superior guidance than any western fighter can manage.

Considering what a major success the Su-57 have been last year, it would be no surprise at all if it was produced in larger numbers, pushing the PAK-DP even further into the future. Essentially, the Su-57s have shown to be capable of doing almost everything the MiG-31 does, and often better, thanks to its amazing sensor suite, only downside being the ability to not carry potential future larger longrange missiles.

The Mig 31s comparison is actually the F 14 and Phoenix missile combination. The Mig 31 was designed to take out B 52s and B-1s just like the Tomcat was intended to shoot down TU 22M backfires before they could attack US carriers. Both the Mig 31 and F 14 carried long range air to air missiles that work well against bombers but not so much against other fighters.

Im going with reality. The F15 has a perfect record in actual combat missions never having been shot down. Russian jets like all Russian military equipment is based on 18th century thinking that bigger is always better. Pilot training and skill, finesse is what matters, however. Any fool can step on the gas and go really fast in any machine that moves. Races however, are won in the turns.
If they fight it wont be about stats...stats do not transfer to combat in the sky. They both fit a system and work with many other weapons in that system, not alone. If you are fighting a Mig 31 you are also fighting s400 and its very long range radar, you are fighting a50 and many other weapons ...If your in the 31 you face AEW, F35, while you search for 15 you have stealthy 22 could be close. one v one is just for you tube and video games.

What. No 40 years of history has told us otherwise. The F15 was built as the response to what the US thought was the ultimate fighter jet capable of out manuevering and out running anything in the sky and thus the F15 was made to be better than the ultimate fighter jet. The F15 has superior radar, manueverability, fly by wire systems, better reliability and avionics. There is 0% chance that a mig could win in a even fight against an F15. And this has all been combat proven, the F15 has outperformed anything out of the Soviet Union including the predecessor to the MIG31, the MIG 25. While the MiG is faster...by a little (the F-15 can sprint for 90 seconds to M2.5) it can't hold a candle to the Eagle as a flying machine. Many years ago the Russians lost their Chief Test Pilot in a MiG-31 accident where his fuel indicators went haywire and he thought he was running out...but it was almost fully laden and when he tried to turn to final (again thinking it was light of fuel) he stalled and crashed. For high altitude interception I'll give it to the MiG...but everywhere else the Eagle wins hands down. Good video!

math-challenged or hearing problem maybe? the 31's 190-mile AAMs have almost twice the reach of the f-15's 100-mile AAMs. The chicken would have to survive six 31 AAMs before firing its first AAM (but the 31 would never allow the chicken to get close enough for that). And the speed of the 31's AAMs is nowadays well above 12 mach compared to 6 mach for the chicken.

They're both nice fighters. But that's as far as it goes. Though Mig-31 may climb faster to shoot down opponents from above the F-15 can easily avoid its missiles and respond with one of our own. Remember that the Mig 31 is not maneuverable as the F 15 thus can't avoid missiles that easy!

The F15 is definitely the superior fighter jet of the two. For it's original (interceptor) purpose, the M31 is more specialized. Two different designs for two different purposes. However, I see the awesome beauty of both jets.
I would say that the mig-31 would probably beat the original F15 a/b in a long range engagement, but that a modern F15 will beat any mig-31 any day in the week.
The mig-31 is a long range fighter, it has a huge radar with range up to 200 km, it has r33 missiles with 120 km max range. So i would say it would be able to spot and lock a early F-15 before it could do the same. Really thats what it was designed to do, long range kills. And since the soviets only had the mig 23 which the F-15 turned to dust it was necessary.

American and Western weapons are better than Russian weapons in electronic technology. But I don't appreciate western weapons. like Mig31 because Vietnam my country does not need them! Any situation where there are multiple of each opposing each other, the MiG-31 automatically wins. Even the original datalink from the 80s was better than what the west managed for 2 decades after, and the upgraded current version is simply just superior.
The F-15 is a fine aircraft, but the MiG-31 simply takes many of its good sides and turn them up to 11, or more like 20, while simply dumping the things it's not focused on, like agility.
If you want an aircraft that is superduper good at flinging longrange missiles at targets before they even think they can be seen, MiG-31 is by far the better.
IF however you want to have a decent chunk of the above ability, but instead of getting all of it also wants better overall air to air ability, including dogfighting, then the F-15 is better.

The F-15 radar is among the absolute best on any western fighter. EF Typhoon beats it aaand, that's about it because of how few fighters like these there are.
MiG-31 still beats it while barely even trying. How anyone can have missed this is, just, sad.
Only thing that competes with it is the Su-57, because yikes, 3 frontal X-band radars and at least 2 K-band radars in the wings, all cooperating for maximum effect? And even THAT combination radar isn't automatically better than the raw power and superb software of the MiG-31.
(whoever did the programming of the -31 electronics must have been a certified genius... It's GOOD, when 4 decades later, noone has managed to code something truly better.)
You are comparing apples and oranges since the Mig-31 is unlikely to engage an F15, that role is for the SU-57 which will be around assuming any NATO combat with Russia will take place within their integrated Dome radar and missile system that can detect all NATO aircraft, including the F-35 some 300 km away and direct missiles from the ground, ships and fighter aircraft onto the target. In this situation, the Mig031 will be flying well above the altitude of the NATO jets, as it is in Ukraine at the moment where it releases its missiles from within Russian air space before turning away to avoid anti-air missiles. This allows it missiles to benefit from the kinetic energy gained as it falls to the altitude of the target so making it more difficult to detect and avoid by forward searching radar. This aircraft has been responsible for a major share of the 411 Ukraine jets shot down so far in this war.

Are you freaking kidding me? The MIG-31 is an ugly, old flying box that's never killed anything and never will. If Russia could get 10 of them airborne at once I'd be impressed. Their pilots don't get enough training, their maintenance crews don't get enough parts, etc. An under-performing aircraft with no maintenance support and unskilled pilots is going to get massacred. By contrast the F-15 is the most lethal air-to-air fighter of all time. Something like a 105-0 kill ratio. No F-15 has ever been shot down in air-to air combat. We already learned a painful lesson about relying on interceptors (in the 1960s). The Russians apparently have not. What makes this even more embarassing (for Russia) is that in addition to the technological edge, we now also have the numerical edge. We have nearly 1000 5th gen fighters: the Russians and Chinese combined have maybe 10. No one in the West should fear the Big Bad Bear. Its more like Paddington Bear.

How is soviet doctrine all about high speed intercept and not maneuverability... of the Su27 is soviet era and it was one of, if not the most maneuverable fighter at the time?
I often hear, that actually the russians were and still are hyper focused on maneuverability.. as for USAF doctrine they focus on high energy.
The MiG31 was a thing all on it's one... there's no western analogous to it. It was made to intercept the supersonic spy and bomber planes.
Then they were adapted into a BVR platform against other fighters, and most recently adapted to Air-to-ground missions.
How does it fare against the Eagle?
Simple, the eagle has a better radar.. but the difference isn't as high as most think.
The eagle will likely see the foxhound first. That being said... without a longer range missile, as the USAF doesn't yet have a long range AA missile, the Foxhound has an advantage in range, and it will use it to press the Eagle back into a defensive position.
I know that the best Ukraine has is soviet era Su27.. but even if they got an F16 or even F15.. without the right weapons it would be the same, as most of VKS's Air to air kills have been made by Foxhounds far away from the frontlines.

F15 without question. The Israeli F15s defeated Syrian mig 25s which are “predecessors” to the mig 31… though overall it’s really the same jet.
They are not even close to the same thing , the MiG 25 didnt even have a Pulse-Doppler "Look Down" radar while the MiG-31 has hyperaonic missiles and the Zaslon-M , the most powerful radar ever mounted on a fighter jet
@@ELITE-xn3sh let me simplify the discussion - the F15 eagle has over 100 air to air kills and NEVER shot down by another fighter jet (also known as air to air losses)… the mig 31 have no air to air kills…the closest analog is mig 25 with 8 air to air kills and 8 air to air losses breaking even…

The MiG 31 has the single most powerful radar set Ever fitted in a fighter jet. This thing is the most capable interceptor in the world , while the 25 was an outdated flying shit. Because it hasnt neen combat doesnt prove its not dangerous. Its like telling me that the f22 is not capable bc it hasnt seen combat , which is true , but disproves the testing done in simulated fights.
@@ELITE-xn3sh regarding single most powerful radar… the PESA radar that the mig 31 was equipped with can scan a largar area faster than the pulse Doppler arrays used by their nato counterparts, however, PESA doesn’t determine the radar contacts location as precisely as PDA or AESA for a weapons lock, and since it ran only a single band at a time could be jammed much more easily by ground units or other aircraft, where as PDA can scan on multiple bands… basically the mig 31 has a more powerful radar that can scan larger areas, faster engines, and longer range missiles compared with its predecessor the mig 25…it still can’t dogfight to save its life… its a jet designed to intercept subsonic nato bombers to prevent them from entering soviet (Russian) air space to deliver their deadly cargo… hence its designation as an “interceptor and reconnaissance fighter”…never designed to go toe to toe against dedicated fighter jets… it would be annihilated in a battle against an F15 which is designed to hunt and destroy enemy fighters, hence it’s designation as an “air superiority fighter.” Hence why the mig 25, a similar craft to mig 31, had a lackluster 8 kills vs 8 losses in air to air battles against other fighters and the F15 has a peerless 100+ kills vs 0 losses in air to air battles. In a hypothetical battle, the mig 31 would lose against F15 every time because it was never designed to battle other fighter jets.
@@ebenitez2011 similar body does not mean anything. The MiG 31 and its predecessor are interceptors , not meant to dogfight my guy. They have 2 different roles. And let me be clear , what the MiG 31 would do against an invading force? Kill Awacs and tankers from 400km away and leave the F 15s to the Su 35 or other air superiority fighters. Imagine having all this and you just loose your Awacs without even being close to engaging the threat. The R-37 missiles are no match to anything with its speed and range. What the conflict of the discussion is that the mig 31 Will not dogfight the F 15 and its not a relic like the MiG 25 , which didtnt even have PD. Now the Zaslon itself negates any dissadvantage from being PESA vs AESA radar by being very powerful (in wattage) and having the biggest dish than any aircraft ever.
