Even in the current climate, actors from working-class backgrounds keep delivering incredible screen performances. 2018 has seen Lesley Manville Oscar-nominated for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread as well as starring in hit BBC comedy Mum. And after a stellar debut in Lady Macbeth, Naomi Ackie was named Most Promising Newcomer at this year’s BIFAs.
