    Good evening! And thank you very much for over 9,800 subscribers! I really hope you enjoy this walk in the village on the shores of Loch Ness: Fort Augustus!
    On our walk, we only spend a brief moment overlooking Loch Ness, but if you'd like to see and learn more about the world-famous loch, do not fret! Tomorrow at 8pm, we'll be taking a special walk along the shores of Loch Ness, so do tune in for that tomorrow :)

    Hi. This was very nostalgic and emotional for me. I used to live and work in Fort Augustus Abbey. I was the live-in duty manager of the hotel and exhibition center. I was also the person responsible for closing the Abbey on it's final day of business in 1998. Whilst walking around, locking everything up, I cried the whole way around. It was the most amazing place to live and work, although the monks were very abusive to the staff, myself included, but that didn't detract from the thrill and enjoyment of living and working at such an amazing place. My partner at the time, a local man, had also been a former student at the boys school and shared many stories of the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of the monks as a young boy. I later worked at the Lock Inn and The Inch Hotel before leaving for Inverness, then Glasgow. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
    Edit; I just noticed my ex-fiance at 3:15 coming from the left with the black t-shirt and jeans. He was probably going to the Lock Inn to buy another pint lol. Hi Gunny!

    I am from India and I had visited Fort Augustus in the summer of 2017. What a lovely place. I had a walk around the town and also enjoyed some sausages at a local take away. Next stop was at a pub. They had a garden seating area where I gulped down 2 pints 😊

    Hi, Awesome walk today in the village of Fort Augustus. I enjoyed it. Hope to see more soon. Very beautiful and historical the medieval village is. Your history lessons are always great and educational, and your walks are always enjoyable. How is your week going? My week is going great. We have lots of snow here in Canada. Have a great day 😀

    Very quiet for Fort Augustus, even the road. When was this filmed?
    You turn up in some far-flung places; great variation. Are you following some sort of strange pattern, or do you travel for other work-related reasons?

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  2 года назад +2

      I agree! It was rather quiet, most likely because this walk was filmed between 6 and 7 o'clock in the evening in June of this year (as best as I remember)!
      I'm really glad you enjoy the variation of places shown on the channel, there's not really much method to the madness though! Typically, I spend a full day filming in as many different cities/towns/villages as I can (sunrise to sunset), and I take advantage of every transport opportunity to places that take my fancy or have been suggested to me by lovely viewers on this channel! On this day, for example, I had been up filming around The Black Isle and the Inverness area in the first half of the day, before making my way down to Fort Augustus by bus, and then onto Fort William the next day :) It's a lot of fun, but again, fairly random!

      @@LetsWalkUK Thanks for such a quick, comprehensive reply. Doing this by public transport is so much more fulfilling than just jumping in the car. You'll see more, meet more folks and experienc these places, rather than just visiting them. I'm kind of jealous: I'd love to make, or have made, a living in this fashion.
      I wish you nothing but good connections, prompt arrivals and good luck and I'll certainly continue to follow your explorations.
      Cheers for now,
      Dougie.

      It's a very good suggestion! I'm certainly looking towards introducing audio-narrated walks in future alongside this format, which I know lots of people like too :)
      So do stay tuned for that in future - but I'm glad you found the scenery in Fort Augustus beautiful!
