LOL, you're joking right? This guy is a brutal hack who ruined a great song here. Perhaps I should listen to some of his original stuff before making that statement but he completely sucks doing this song and if I were Jerry Cantrell, I'd have as hit put out on him for doing it.
Simply, a great song covered by an incredibly talented artist. He knows where Layne was coming from. Also, his vocal performance on the new album, and this concert in particular, are his best yet.
enough of the arguing....ryan adams HAS talent and this performance certainly shows that....i understand that we are all entitled to our own opinions but i do find it very annoying how people can be so critical of everything and if you don't like it then dont watch it and dont leave comments accusing someone so brilliant of being talentless
Some bands & artists can put such a remarkable personal stamp on a song that it's almost impossible for listeners to not associate the two. Alice In Chains has accomplished that feat with "Down In A Hole," & regardless of the ability/inability of Mr. Adams on this cover, he's fighting an insanely steep uphill battle. It's impossible for me to hear this track without associating it with Layne Staley & AIC, & I imagine the same is true for many other listeners. Some songs don't need to be covered.
he has a really nice voice.....but why the hell he changed the initial part and why they made it so....strong??? It just killed the "feeling", I know a cover has to be different from the original version but.... I don't know.... whatever...(sorry for my english)
you people saying this is a horrible cover. Shut up. Just shut up, nobody wants to hear it, Hes showing his respect for AIC. So it doesn't sound the same, whoop dee doo. A cover is when a band takes another's song and plays it with their style. It's a good cover. So shut up.
LOL all the butthurt ppl complaining it's not like the original. So what? artists always reinterpret songs. Ryan's reworking of Iron Maiden's Wasted Years is entirely different and still excellent.
to everybody that defended this, good job. ryan adams is an amazing musician. let the people who still prefer Alice In Chains' version of this song do just that. I just think it's funny that they talk down on somebody who has enough audacity to cover Alice In Chains. but I guess anyway who covers anything is unoriginal and turns the covered song into trash.
this cover is awesome. no matter what RA is doing, it's fucking awesome. i would totally get fucked up and hang out with Ryan Adams. i need to see this son of a bitch live.
why is it in insult? because he did something that nobody else does and make it his own version to cover it? what if you listened to his cover of 'wonderwall?' it doesnt sound exactly like the oasis version of it, is that an insult?
To me, a cover is supposed to be done as close as you can do it to the original OR completely different... and make it your own... that being said and myself being a huge fan of both AIC and Ryan Adams... (i know) I guess i'll have to bow out. Please disregard my bullshit. Thanks.
Because he does it horribly! Too bad he didn't die so we never had to hear him destroy a great song. Fuck me, I can't sing to save my life and I guarantee I'd do a much better rendition than this talentless hack. And trying to get views by using a very close rendition of the great Bryan Adams name is also a disgrace.
ppl are different, with different emotions therefore they relate to songs like this in different ways and find different meanings.thats originality, when a song has a meaning to u and u reveal YOUR emotions covering it,not the artists emotions..now that would make u unoriginal..the problem is i see no emotions here, this guy has no idea what he's singing about,so dont talk to me about good/bad covers or true aic fans..u dont know how much aic music helped me in my rough times
Steady on doods....compare this with some of adams own material and you might get the vibe although while this is great quality its just not getting that vibe across. Check out some of the rougher versions on tube and you might get what i'm bullshittin about,kinda....the guy's fuckin brilliant
Horrible is what it is! I don't know who this dude is but he has ZERO business wrecking one of the greatest songs of all time! Oh, and trying to pawn himself off as Bryan Adams too. WTF?
Sorry man, but I think he terribly failed in rearranging the timing of the words and melodies. He started off way too high, so the chorus doesn't hit as hard as it should. Also, lyrically there's a huge diffrence between the verses and the chorusses, wich can be complemented by the intensity of ones voice, but Ryan doesn't do that, it's just one long boring constant... thing. But whatever, Layne Staley is my favorite singer of all time so I might be too hard on him. I just think it sucks.

this is an amzing show of respect to a fallen hero we miss you layne
amazing cover didn't try to do it similar but his own style how covers should be
the most talented artist of this generation. hands down. he's like lennon or dylan. prolific, relevant, and careless.
LOL, you're joking right? This guy is a brutal hack who ruined a great song here. Perhaps I should listen to some of his original stuff before making that statement but he completely sucks doing this song and if I were Jerry Cantrell, I'd have as hit put out on him for doing it.
Ryan Adams is the greatest singer/songrwriter breathing....
Ummmmm, NOT even in the top 8 billion !!!
Simply, a great song covered by an incredibly talented artist. He knows where Layne was coming from. Also, his vocal performance on the new album, and this concert in particular, are his best yet.
Brilliant. Adams gets the emotion just right.
Ok first off, not just anybody can fairly do this song. I was shocked he did this song. I'd like to hear him do more covers from the darker side
John Graboff is soooo good in this song!!! So is Ryan and the other Cardinals, but Graboff, wow!
This is pretty good...love Alice in chains and love this cover.
this is very hard to pull off , he did good - I salute you Ryan Adams
it's such a good intro to Blue Bloods Silver Star - love it
respect people. For those before and those now.
fuckin outta control
I loved this cover. Tribute for sure......not a diss. Ryan Adams has had his own issues with addiction....he was not doing a diss.
enough of the arguing....ryan adams HAS talent and this performance certainly shows that....i understand that we are all entitled to our own opinions but i do find it very annoying how people can be so critical of everything and if you don't like it then dont watch it and dont leave comments accusing someone so brilliant of being talentless

Great song, great cover.
Exactly............a cover is YOUR OWN interpretation........Cardinals kick ass!!!!
GREAT COVER!!!!!!!!!!
Great
アリスの歌がこういう形で、歌い継がれていくことに喜びをかんじます。
ライアンの彼らしい世界観が、表現されていて、素敵だとおもいます。
彼もアリスのファンだったのでしょうねー。
he has a really nice voice.....but why the hell he changed the initial part and why they made it so....strong??? It just killed the "feeling", I know a cover has to be different from the original version but.... I don't know.... whatever...(sorry for my english)
fuckin great!
@flyingpinkwig "Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it." - John Lennon
Great cover. Does Layne some justice!
O_O
where are my grenades
WHERE ARE MY GRENADES!!!
at least he knows to yell a little instead of just singing it. the guy on slide screwed up on this version.
you people saying this is a horrible cover. Shut up. Just shut up, nobody wants to hear it, Hes showing his respect for AIC. So it doesn't sound the same, whoop dee doo. A cover is when a band takes another's song and plays it with their style. It's a good cover. So shut up.

Great song... Ryan doing his Liam Gallagher impression..

Omgomgomg
yeahhhhh its Ryan Adams.....
Wow, so much vitriol.....I love AIC, and I think this is a great cover.
ryan could cover britney and still be worth listening to just to hear it.
@Squaek You might even call it a "cover version"!
i like this version. 'nuff said
I don't see anyone bitching to all the covers on youtube.
nice fucking cover.
To me, a cover is supposed to be done as close as you can do it to the original OR completely different... and make it your own... that being said and myself being a huge fan of both AIC and Ryan Adams... (i know) I guess i'll have to bow out. Please disregard my bullshit. Thanks.
@zackboomer - Don't think that was the intention here buddy
Ryan was in the same heroin shit hole that Layne was in. Ryan survived though. Why shouldn't he sing this song?
Because he does it horribly! Too bad he didn't die so we never had to hear him destroy a great song. A brilliant interpretation of one of the darkest and best from Mr Layne Staley
This is mainly all Jerry's lyrics pay jerry his respects
dustin haley Ryan Adams has paid his respects by covering this song. So, fuck you.
dustin haley I'm glad someone notices
4:06 is bad ass
vibradot haha
SHIT!
he probably was stoned for this. i'd like to see you cover this song. then you can use the word "talentless" all you want.
God damn that sucked bad.
woahhh i agree that the AIC version is much much better however i think its unfair to call Ryan Adams talentless....
where is this from?
don't listen to this live version, the studio version off of his album follow the lights is much better
The beauty and magic of this song is the harmonies between layne and jerry.
Love a reinterpretation of a great song but...............
this aint it.
I got him mixed up with Bryan Adams
Exactly what this hack was hoping when he chose the name. Bryan should sue his ass to the moon and back for that shit.
It's BRYAN ADAMS and this ain't him!!!
enjoyed listening to someone else's version, but nowhere near the unplugged version with layne and jerry - sorry
i cannot believe aic fans are ripping on ryan adams... what a joke.
horrible. why was this ever filmed?
Terrible. Randomly changing the rhythm and leaving out the occasional word doesn't improve anything. Also, why not just turn all of the lights off?
what the fuck is this?
Horrible is what it is! I don't know who this dude is but he has ZERO business wrecking one of the greatest songs of all time! Oh, and trying to pawn himself off as Bryan Adams too. WTF?
this song is ruined now
heeey roy obinson wannabeeeeee
this sucks>>>>>>>.....
I meant anyone* who covers anything is unoriginal and turns the covered song into trash.
It's funny how I regognize a lot of these names from harmony central.
This guy is a joker.
Do not like!
awful
EPIC FAIL!!
i understand its a cover and the original will always be the best but he could have done a way better job
great song, average cover.
jaja, que malo

i don't like it. it's way better the original.
It sucks
